THANK YOU for finally speaking the truth. Hatred of women was why we lost the election. Yes, hatred of women and even by women. May the conversation continue.

Agreed, misogyny without question was part of the reason. And racism. I said it when HRC ran, that there's no way this country will elect a woman president. No matter how terrible a man is, he is still considered preferable to a highly qualified woman. It's exhausting.

IMO Trump follows a rule that works which is, say it enough and people believe it. As far as misogyny goes, there is still an unwavering amount of female on female misogyny that exists and as a culture we still teach that a male hierarchy is needed. Yeah, misogyny is real and still a very American trait.

On the Sunday before the election, 3rd of November, I was at an airport in Paris France standing in front of a huge wall of newspapers and magazines from all over the world, every language you can imagine, every topic you can imagine, everyone represented. Not one of them, not a single one had anything to say in support of Kamala Harris. At the time I had been feeling pretty optimistic about her chances, but that moment told me that the whole wide world was not interested in having a woman of colour in charge. That was the moment that I knew that the patriarchy was in self preservation overdrive mode and will absolutely not give up any morsel of power without a good old fight. There are many reasons as to why the American people chose what they chose, but the reasons as to why Harris lost can all be unravelled down to the kernel of dirt that is misogyny, racism, homophobia and bigotry that prop up white male dominance. As a silver lining though, it is important to acknowledge that Harris campaigned for 107 days and still landed 48.33% of the popular vote and that, even after campaigning for 5 years, with Elonia and twatter in his pocket, and the whole patriarchy behind him old donald couldn’t brake 50% of the popular vote and his paper thin House majority is shrinking still, so much for a "Landslide" much less a "Mandate" but rather an embarrassment. This to me is significant, this to me heralds the swan song for the old paradigm, a shrieking long and boring one, but a swan song nonetheless 💙 There is much work to be done. Thank you for your research, assessment and sharing of information, I appreciate you 🙏

I think it was a combination. Misogyny was a major factor, I mean HIllary won the popular vote against Trump, but he's had EIGHT years to propagandize against women and minorities. It's blatantly obvious we have a horrible problem with women internalizing the misogyny, too. If I had bought into what I was taught growing up, by implication if not overtly, I would be in that category, too. People are still doing this to their children. It will take a concerted effort and decades more to reverse.

While I think Harris is a extremely talented, smart, and qualified candidate - I said right after the Biden-Trump debate when people were starting to talk about Harris as a candidate is that Murika just isn’t going to elect a Black Women - not yet - maybe in a decade or two - but we still have a low boil of racism and sexism and frankly all the other isms.

I'm a feminist and I agree. Unfortunately Dems can't put up another woman for president for awhile because a woman, no matter how much better, will suffer the same fate. Women can have key, critical positions in government but we won't get enough men to vote for a woman for president. Sorry Whitmer, AOC, Warren and Klobuchar pick a government leadership role that isn't president now in order to avoid disappointment later.

There's a great scene in The History Boys where the female teacher goes on a tear against the boys in the class (after making a sexist joke) about women's role in history. Other than that tangent, Kamala had several things working against her. She wasn't the original nominee, so had to slap together a campaign late. She's from California which is not a positive to many of the swing states (and San Francisco to boot, like much hated Californians Newsom and Pelosi). She was frequently portrayed as being underused by Biden as his V.P. (not that anyone can probably name a V.P. anyone got their money's worth from). Were the percentage of people by race/gender/socioeconomic status that voted for Hilary vs Trump similar to the percentage for those groups who voted for Kamala (to show a direct correlation for the misogyny theory - small sample size with only two major party female candidates)?

@@anghiggy5029 you can leave stuff blank, you just can't vote for for more than the number of candidates allowed in any given election. For example, when we have city council races in my hometown, we can't vote for more than 9 candidates but we don't have to vote for 9. If you're representative of the lack of knowledge of how your own elections work, no wonder trump won.
