I can't really agree that either game would be better than the other in terms of character. They're both going for very different styles. Team Fortress 2's character have a more cartoonish art style and comedic tone, yet a more grounded aesthetic; while Overwatch has a more realistic art style and serious tone, with a colourful superhero-like aesthetic. It's apples and oranges.

Yep, that's correct. I prefer tf2 since forever, the characters, the gameplay, the replayabilty, the maps, the music, the lore, everything screams just too much more, and i felt more fun playing tf2. But overwatch its very very good too, some tropes are a bit clichê but nothing too outta bouldering, It's a more then a decent hero shooter, but in this type of style of game tf2 holds the crown for me.

Dude, the characters in Tf2 are way better than Overwatch. Look at Mercy vs Medic. Mercy is a goody two shoes while Medic is a crazy German doctor who has stolen the entirety of a mans skeleton, regularly defies modern medicine though crazy and convoluted methods like just pouring buckets of blood into bodies and outsmarts the devil after selling his soul to him. I'll disagree on the characters being better in OW. They're all okay, but every TF2 character has ancestry, relationships, and depth. The spy is Scout's dad, Scout is literally a gift from God who's too dumb to be of use, Heavy is extremely smart and has a sister stronger than him (who soldier fucks on the reg), Soldier is literally insane, and Medic worships satan. Also Pyro is a business mogle, and there are actually 2 TF2 teams, the current one and one much older who we don't get to see. TF2 has history, fun, and a story. You aren't heroes, you're just a mercenary roped into a bit of a shitshow with fun hats. OW has generic superhero origin numbers 1 through.. how many are we on now? There are a lot, but I couldn't tell you why Reaper is undead or why it's high noon. I can tell you that Soldier built guns out of a dumpster one day, and he and Demo were good friends but they're not allowed to be because they slack off. Also, the junkrat bit is funny. TF2 has a physics feature called Rocket Jumping, just think of Junkrat's mine jumping but just about any class with some kind of projectile can do it. There are literal competitions and guides on how to do it the best, but anyone can pick it up in a few minutes. It's skill, not right click and succeed. The feature was actually an exploit, but it got so famous and useful it got refined and made into a feature.

Well these characters are given their own personalities and quirks so that the fans could really just have fun with the characters and while they aren't the most relatable (They are ALL psychopaths paid to kill each other after all) they are certainly more unique from their lore to their own variety gameplay options. The part about relating to the characters... When you play Overwatch, its just a shooter game and when you play it the characters personalities and ideas dont come into play AS MUCH. But when it comes to TF2, playing the character makes you feel the fun of being the psychopath with the gun. also Medic doesn't worship Satan, he scammed Satan.

12:50 über is a german word that means over, and the ubercharge would be overcharge if translated Eit: 16:14 i do believe the characters of tf2 are more interesting than overwatch's as in overwatch most of them are just stereotypical bad/good characters, with very little of them having any real nuance to them, for example mercy, shes literally just a good person, compare her to medic, a psychopatic doctor who once removed the skeleton of one of his patients, just to see what it'd do. I do recommend you to check out the tf2 comics, as they showcase more of the mercs personalities/give more details on their backstories of the mercs.

Not to add, all the characters in TF2 have some form of backstory, reasons as to why they are like they are, why they do what they do (most of them anyway), what theyr relations to each other are. And despite being stereotypes done well, they have actual personalities outside of that, Heavy for example is this big mean killing machine in the game, but outside of that he's a caring family man with PhD in russian literature.

Team fortress is more fps than ability based game like overwatch. There is no roles but theres 9 class that u can pick and play that have weaknesses, strenght and counters, you can even play the same one in a team and usually in a casual match is 12v12 unlike overwatch and so it is possible that ini that team there probably gonna be ppl playing the same class at the same time.

To basically explain, a lot of overwatch's characters are definitely team fortress inspired in their characters and movesets (even taunts as well) but tf2 is almost a good ten years older than overwatch and has kept it's charm to this day while the overwatch devs keep trying to one up themselves with how stupid character design can be. I mean, just look at lifeweaver. Team fortress 2's characters are very very simple, but they're timeless because of the simplicity they have. I see more people saying that they love every single TF2 character than people saying that they hate one TF2 character (character wise, not gameplay wise)

while overwatch is unique, it kinda dumbs down the gameplay. for example: soldier and pharah in order for soldier to move around quickly, you aim your rocket launcher at your feet, jump and then shoot to fly in exchange for some ammo and hp theres a clear trade off, soldier is a well balanced class that can seriously fuck up some players, but if he wants to move fast, hes gonna have to exchange some health and ammo for a burst if speed even then, theres some important factors to consider as well, like how close the rocket is to you, the direction of the blast, or if youre holding w midair but good rocket jumpers can chain rocket jumps together and literally cross an entire map in seconds if pharah wants to move around quickly, you press shift tldr, tf2 requires more mechanical skill compared to ow
