why it is a big deal who reach american continent? whether it is polynesians, Chinese, Vikings, europeans, africans and north african, the native american ALREADY lived there! Mayan, aztecs, lakota, sioux, incas, etc. Aren't they humans? it is an evidence human has settled there. we don't brag who discover british island, africa, india, china, australia, japan, etc because HUMAN already lived there.

because it was an important discovery and was disconnected to the rest of the world

I can't speak for everyone but I think one reason it's a big deal to many USA-ians may be because for a few hundred years, the USA only spoke of Columbus' Discovery, and White/Euro-centric establishments publicized and proliferated the idea that Columbus "discovered" NAmerica, while ignoring other Ethnic Groups discovery and contact with the Americas. It erases the history and culture for many groups of people in one fell swoop when a White Man did, seemingly, everything through-out History. It's important to many diverse people for their sense of self and for their children to understand that "Others" have been active participants in history all along.

Because most Polys hate their Asian heritage and try anything and everything to be something else despite the fact that Native Americans are also a Mongoloid race settling America via the Bering Strait from North Asia.

Viti, still have our art of sea voyaging. The thing is, with todays engine marine shipping vessel, there are engineers to manage the engines and captain/mates to steer the ship.

How much of the Polynesian Te Puke canoes was influenced by Fijian Drua canoes? Or was it vice-versa? Or was it a mix of borrowing, mixing and matching from different designs from different islands until they came up with a design for a canoe that suited them.

Well KZbin is not the best place for history so I'm not going to tread too much on the main topic, but I'm more fascinated by why Polynesian stopped there voyaging. They had become pretty sedentary by the time of European contact, making short hops but not long voyages, even between known islands.

this is how my ncestors did it. this voyage is recorded in 3 caves 1 in pitcairn island 1 in fiji and 1 in new guinea. A flotilla of ships set sail from Egypt around 232 B.C .. , during the reign of Ptolemy III, on a mission to circumnavigate the globe. The six ships sailed under the direction of Captain Rata and Navigator Maui, a friend of the astronomer Eratosthenes, who was head of the Alexandria library. The commander and navigator knew from Eratosthenes that the circumference of the Earth was 250,000 stades (approximately 28,000 miles), and they had state-of-the-art astronomical and navigational equipment. Although there is no record that the flotilla returned to Egypt, Maui and others left records of their voyage along the way. i wonder where they went? I am maori and this is my story

nah bro that stuff about egypt/greeks is pure myth. the tupuna of maori are from eastern polynesia, and from samoa/tonga before that. the voyaging to aotearoa, rapanui, hawaii, america, australia didn't start happening until about 1000AD.

If it hadn't been for Tongans none of this would've happened. Anyone with an education in pacific history will know this is the truth for the Tongans were the best navigators and boat builders throughout Polynesia Melanesia and Micronesia. Lol and I'm not even Tongan I'm Fijian but I guess all Fijians are a bit Tongan and all Tongans are a bit Fijian because of the close ties they've had for thousands of years.

Funny how only Eastern Polynesians have similar features to Mayan / Incas & Aztec. ...hmmmmmm mm, but Melanesian/ Micronesia look similar to Asians... In my opinion Asians were great sailors back then as well hence the connection between both cultures, so basically met and greeted each other so as to forged a relationship they had lasted for millenias. Fijians are Austronesians closely related to Aboriginal Australians/ Soloman/ Torres Islanders & Papuans

My sister in law is a Filipina and she always finds the parked car back immediately while my Belgian brother struggles. Even today, Philippine woman, men leave their family behind for very long to go work in far countries. It's almost like some tradition. Then I wonder also if the pacific islanders could not have magnetite in the brain that helps to navigate.

@@martywarner1779 It was because the Polynesians traded with the Aztecs and Mayans and they mixed. That's why many of the features between the ancient Americans have cultures related to the the Eastern afternoon part of Polynesia. And they were closest to them.

ItsAlwaysTheSame Not being biased that I’m Tongan but that’s the truth. There is historic documents by some of the first Europeans that stepped foot on our shores stating that Tongans travelled as far as Antarctica after stopping through Aotearoa and Australia. They even travelled to PNG very frequently and all throughout Melanesia, Micro and Polynesia. Ancient Tongans did it the best and I challenge anyone who begs to differ. It’s a shame we lost most of this knowledge due to colonisation. They replace our ancient spiritual practices with religion. I’m currently on a journey to revive and relive my ancestors truth. Ofa atu to all of Pasifika💪🏾
