I was thinking that it wasn't a Bishop Barron style comparison, in spite of some floundering answers in the heat of the moment, as the answers weren't compromises. I was hoping Dr Marshall would talk about the Sacraments, the need to remain in a state of Grace and the fact that the Church has authority (which he only mentioned in passing). Still, Dr Marshall nailed so much of it, nevertheless. I am very grateful that Dr Marshall gave the Rosary at the end because it allowed Mr Beck to bear witness to the beauty of having a relationship with Christ's Mother. Thanks to both gentlemen.

I was raised Baptist. I attended & explored all major religions...chanting with Buddhists, praying the Vedanta, attending non-denominational Christianity, & a decade of Novus Ordo Catholicism. I taught Philosophy. It's only when I began attending the Traditional Latin Mass that I felt I was in holy territory. The reverence & focus on the words & sacrifice of Christ -- NOT our own human feelings -- was right & true. The missal contains both English & Latin so you can follow it. Very humbling & powerful.

I had a most difficult time parting from the religion of heartfelt tradition, Catholicism. I decided I would let God's *Truth* lead me, as opposed to me *following* my feelings and ideas. @@docverit2668, let me ask you a question. Did our LORD Jesus Christ say “The church is the way, the truth, and the life, and there is no way to the Father except through the church”? The reason I only said “church” is because the Church of Rome is not the only “Christian church” that claims to be the ONLY “church of Jesus Christ”, and therefore the ONLY way to be saved is to be a member of that “church”. Jehovah’s Witness’s, Mormons, and SDA, and probably some others I’m not familiar with, ALL make the claim to be the ONLY “church” who can offer salvation. The Catholics claim it’s the sacraments that save you, and without partaking of the RCC sacraments, there’s no salvation for you. So, how many sacraments did the thief on the cross next to Christ take? Because Jesus saved him. What church was the thief a member of? What good works did a crucified thief, literally hanging from nails on his “deathbed”, have to offer Jesus Christ as works of righteousness making the thief worthy of salvation? Whatever was required of the thief next to Christ to be saved is also what is required for EVERYONE UNDER THE NEW ßL00D COVENANT to be saved, because God, YHVH incarnate in Christ, is NOT a respecter to persons, meaning that He does not require something for one believer to be saved, and then require something different for another person to be saved. There is only ONE WAY to be saved according to YHVH, so is it taking the sacraments and being a member of the Church of Rome, or some other church claiming to hold the ker to salvation within its doors only? Is that what the thief did to be saved right there on the spot by Christ? He hurriedly took the sacraments and joined your “church” before he died on the cross? Of course not. He was saved the same way everyone is saved under the new ßIood covenant. He acknowledged he had transgressed the Law of YHVH by his thieving, and he deserved death for his síns, and he acknowledged that Jesus Christ was innocent of any wrongdoing, undeserving of the death penalty He received, as Christ was completely free of any síns, and then he acknowledged with his mouth that Jesus Christ is LORD, the promised Messiah that Jesus claimed to be, and he believed Christ would not remain dead after the cross, and asked Jesus not to cast him away from Christ’s remembrance, saying “LORD, please REMEMBER ME when YOU COME INTO YOUR KINGDOM”, and Jesus saved him instantly, based solely on the thief believing that Jesus had the power to take away his transgressions, and save his soul, and give him eternal life as Jesus is the LORD incarnate, YHVH in the flesh, the righteous who died to save the unrighteous from the wráth to come, to purchase their eternal freedom with His own ßIood. No sacraments. No church membership. Not a single good work for earning righteousness did the thief have to offer Christ in exchange for the salvation of his soul. The thief had nothing but his faith in who Christ was, that Jesus is LORD God in the flesh, why Christ was being put to death for sîns He never committed, because He was the sinIess Messiah, YHVH incarnate, and he believed that Christ was going to be raised from the dead and rule over a coming kingdom of righteousness, and that is why Jesus saved the thief, because the thief believed the gospel. JESUS CHRIST is THE WAY, the truth, and THE LIFE, and JESUS CHRIST is the ONLY WAY TO THE FATHER, period. I have a big problem with ANY CHURCH that claims to hold the key to salvation under their control alone, who claim that their church is the only way you can be reconciled to the Father, because they DENY THE GOSPEL, and claim they are the door to salvation, when Jesus Christ says HE ALONE IS THE DOOR, and ANYONE who tries to enter His kingdom any other way than through Him ALONE, like doing sacraments, sitting in a church pew, doing fleshly works to make themselves righteous, etc., they are A THIEF AND A ROBBER, and they will perish in their síns. The biblical definition of the Church of Jesus Christ has never changed, and it has NEVER applied to the Church of Rome alone, or any other religious construct made by mankind, claiming to be the “only church” of Christ that is the door to salvation. The biblical definition of Church, Ekklessia, is the called out assembly of born again believers from all over the world, because WE ARE THE TEMPLE OF CHRIST, as HIS SPIRIT LIVES IN US, and WE ARE SAVED BY FAITH IN CHRIST ALONE, because JESUS IS THE DOOR alone. We don’t need to join any religious construct of man calling itself a “church” to be saved, and we don’t claim our good works make us righteous and deserving of Heaven, because we know that all our works are filthy rags to YHVH, lsaiah 64, and it’s the redemptive work of Christ that has blotted out our síns and made us righteous, and we don’t have to do any religious rituals like the sacraments in order to be saved, because partaking of the wine and bread has ALWAYS served as a REMEMBRANCE OF CHRIST and WHAT HE DID FOR OUR REDEMPTION, and has NEVER BEEN something you must do to be saved. Jesus said, “Do this in REMEMBRANCE OF ME”. Belonging to ANY church that claims to be the only way to redemption, and believing salvation comes through ANYTHING other than believing Christ died for our síns, was buried, and arose the 3rd day, the TRUE GOSPEL of our salvation, 1 Corinthians 15 vs 1-4, is heresy, and those who claim it are anathema, Galatians 1. Jesus Christ despises ALL religions, including the religion of Catholicism, because you trust in your sacraments and your fleshly works for salvation, and you trust in a “church” holding the key to salvation, rather than trusting Christ is the only way to the Father. Jesus says “Howbeit, IN VAIN do they worship Me, following for doctrine the COMMANDMENTS OF MEN”. He goes on to talk about the rituals and traditions that you do IN VAIN, like the sacraments for salvation. Do you know the meaning of IN VAIN? “But if ANYONE preaches a gospel other than the gospel which we have preached to you, let them be ANATHEMA”, and Paul is referring to the true gospel in 1 Corinthians 15 vs 1-4. There’s a reason why the apostle Peter calls Rome “ßabylon” in the scriptures. Biblically sound doctrine matters, and is in fact, ESSENTIAL. A false gospel can’t save you, like the false gospel of religion.

Is it not the wish for all true believers to be with Him? I have been to Fatima and was so moved and touched by God. People can’t survived without the church. Sunday is a day of obligation to go to church as it mention in the 10 commandments to keep the Sabbath Day holy. The church is the only place you are in communion with Christ.

I agree. This is the problem with Catholicism. The priests put themselves in the place of Jesus and their own canon equates the pope with God and they are not God or Jesus. I wrote in a post above - and I think you would understand this - but I really went off on the whole notion of religion because Christ is of no religion, He IS the Living God. And we should follow Him and Him alone. Not religion. ''When Christ told Peter, "You are a rock and upon this rock I will build My church," - the English interpretation got it all wrong. In the original Greek, Christ told Peter, "You are a pebble, and upon THIS Boulder (meaning Christ Himself), I will build MY church." Jesus said there is only salvation through the one true church and that church is thee Catholic Church and has always been thee Catholic church through ups and downs through highs and through times of despair. The lord Jesus Christ is calling you back to his church the one true church, the one true Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The one true church of Jesus the son of god will live on weather or not you agree or disagree weather you fail to relise it or weather you come to your senses and join Gods true church ,the one true catholic church will live on for as Jesus said : And I say to thee: thou that art Peter; and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18, this church our almighty god talks about is and always has been the one true Catholic and apostolic traditional church. Bring back Jesus into your life. Come back to Gods true church and be enlightened and saved . Go to the traditional Latin mass everyday if you can but go to the Traditional catholic Latin mass especially on sunday and keep the sabbath day holy go to confession weekly and God bless.@@MARANATHA-AMEN

I don't think it was mentioned that some Catholic visionaries stated that The GREAT TRIBULATION begins this October 2023- from the Synod of Synodalitity- a council that will gather bishops & others in order by the pope & Vatican. Many (faithful)Catholics are concerned because they feel the Vatican may Change Church teachings on marriage issues, who can receive the Holy Eucharist, and female clergy. If the Vatican/Church loses its way then soon after the world will go into great chaos. But as the Bible mentioned that judgement must begin at the house of God. 1 Peter 4:17

The church is the body of believers. It is not any denomination. It is not about being bad or good. Martin Luther did not set out to start a new church. He set out to correct the human mistakes of a body of humans putting their own laws on God's church. Rather than be reformed, the Catholic church excomunicated him.

If he and other Catholic priests are so great then why are they still giving the Holy sacraments to politicians like Pelosi & Biden who openly promote killing babies & mutilating children & homosexuality which are sins or do they get too much in their iffering plate? Great discussion as a born catholic I respect you GB on handling this sensitive topic. What I take from this discussion has strengthened my biblical based faith. Most importantly the “church “ is all people who have repented from our personal sin, accepting Jesus of Nazareth as our sole Redeemer….receiving His Holy Spirit. Therefore, when the Lord comes back for His church, that is everyone on planet earth who have His spirit endwelling within them as they follow Him every day, day after day. Secondly, your conversation solidified to me that when the church is raptured from this earth, it will remove all who have His HolySpirt. One his Spirit o longer dwells on the earth all restraint against evil will be removed from this earth. Lastly, there is only one Mediator between God and man & that man is Jesus Christ. Not the Pope. Most Sincerely, A lifetime catholic

To me at least, this is a tough one only in the sense because I have such a affinity to my faith. In my actual out door life I am like Glen tho, I get along and love everyone..

Neither is true. It is to prevent the state from declaring an official religion and from it prohibiting the free practice of one’s own religion. The concept of “separation of church and state” was from a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote and is not part of the constitution.
