one of my favourite DMZ runs ever was either S1 (more likely) or S2. Definitely before you could take cash back to your base. There was a faction mission to extract with like 300K dollars on one operator (details are fuzzy but it was smth like that). We chained contracts like our lives depended on it and used safes to get more money and killstreaks. Met another team and talked our way into an alliance bc I didn't want to waste valuable mission time with a prolonged fight. Everyone in the now-6-man team helped towards the mission goal and on the side, we saw to it that everyone got the best possible gear. We got attacked near the exfil by two different teams but managed to claw our way through and leave at the last possible second (we were in a position on the map that would have made it impossible to reach the final exfil in time. we HAD to make it with the third regular one) with just a few hundred dollars more than the amount of cash required. High adrenaline excitment almost the entire way through, friendly interactions and teaming up for mutual benefit, working together to complete a tough objective and just barely hanging on to the evac heli to make it out alive… that was what sold me on this game.

Excess PVP killed it for me. I really enjoy DMZ, it is the exact kind of game i enjoy. I dont mind PVP, however its nearly impossible to get missions done when no one is friendly

I've been spawn killed within 60 seconds in 10 out of the last 15 games. People will say I'm whining, people will say "get better", and thats fine. DMZ was my introduction to looter shooters coming from zombies. I loved doing missions, but more importantly, I spent money on bundles. Now its just not fun, its just warzone with one shot shotguns, so players like me are leaving and taking our money with us, and that will be the root of the demise of a possible dmz 2.0, the loss of revenue.

Never had that issue. Sure I've been spawn rushed but not 2/3's of the time like you say you have . Having said that people have been rushing spawns pretty much from when the dame came out.

​@@yobgow the game now is 100% spawn push. When the game came out. The only people who did spawn push were the ones who had their 3 slots unlocked and some of their cooldowns. Otherwise losing you were waiting 2, 4, or 6 hrs to get your weapons back.

And I'm sorry but from my experience its not 100% spawn pushing, which is even more hysterical than the OP's claimed strike rate of 66%. Maybe that's because I'm not stupid enough to sit on the spawn long enough for another team to spawn rush me? I would have thought that's just common sense, do maybe you should try it. Then your average might dip below 100% 🙄 And as for spawn rushing in the early days, hell yeah especially if you spawned at the back of the police HQ and rushed the team to the left before they rushed you.

Agreed 100% that there needed to be a better balance after season 1. So yes too much PvP killed it for me. They should have had an option for casual players like myself to just play PvE solo, to kill bosses and do missions. The bot swarms at times were hard enough to deal with them giving away your location so you could get killed by a sweaty 3 man team. Also I friggin hated the exfil campers

Thanks for this video Phix. Yes, pvp killed DMZ in my opinion. So many of us stopped playing due to this.. got so sick of playing a whole match to try an exfil at the end, only to be sniped in the head by someone camping. The Developers had a golden gem on their hands here. They should have made DMZ and Zombies open world as a standalone purchase and left warzone out of it. The Developers should have made both games with a menu option for players to chose going into a game with PVE only or option 2 PVE/PVP for players that want the PVP.. this would have covered all players and playing styles. Not to mention that I'm sure this would have sold incredibly well for them.

I think, for those of us who drop in solo 90% of the time, if we didn't have to worry about 4-man hunt squads, PVP wouldn't be as much of an issue. If there was a server for solos and another for squads, i feel like it would balance out and make things feel more like they did at the beginning.

I came into DMZ late and wanted to complete all missions. As a Solo player it's impossible with the PVP. Just gave up and stopped playing.

Turn on squad fill. You will almost always get placed with a more experienced player who can pull security for you on your missions. I played Solo Seasons 1-3 or until whenever they introduced the 6 man squad feature so I definitely feel you on it being a struggle.

PvP needed to be infrequent. It was meant that bots were your primary adversary and that stumbling upon other operators raised the tension and stakes. You weren't supposed to be encountering operators as much as you do, and when you did, people would have more incentive to cooperate. Spotter scopes, free UAVs, Advanced UAVs, 15 minute cooldown guns, comms vests, six man squads killed it for casuals.

Came in from MWZ. Love the idea of DMZ. PVE has gotten stale in MWZ but DMZ feels like warzone. If I wanted to play warzone I would. I’ve only been able to complete 3 missions in DMZ because I get sniped within 5 minutes of a match of people who just go in to wipe a lobby. I get it it’s part of the mechanics of the game but it made me give up DMZ pretty quickly and I would argue DMZ number dropped so much that they dumped it’s year 2 because people just hunt the whole game because that is all they have left. PVP killed the mode IMO.

@yobgow i do like PVP. I play a crap tone of warzone. Grinder out interstellar and Orion in MP. However the difference between Warzone and DMZ, the main differences is you have mission you can do, and you can exfil with stuff. But with majority of people just hunting other players, it's just warzone now. There is no real difference. Even people who started during season 1 are commenting this. It's why players left and the made got dropped. They don't need 2 warzone modes. So not it's not that I don't like PVP.

Anyway it's a bit stupid to see a solo kill 20 player's in a session. Most times I played solo because everyone else wanted to hunt player's and I wanted to do missions.

If there's a new version, I'd love to see some mechanics that punish excessive PVP engagement. Every player you kill reduces your health, plate carrier, or ammo capacity. The bot hunts and bounty just don't cut it. I also think hunt squads shouldn't be allowed to use kill-streak UAVs and hunted squads should get a free one when the hunters enter the green circle (not at the end).

I love the thrill of trying to do a mission with sweaty squads trying to stop you from doing the mission. I have no problem with people who just want to hunt people endlessly because it adds excitement into the missions. More content would be the best for me. More stuff to try and do while avoiding the sweaty squads. Serpentine was so much fun!

Challenge: Al Mazrah. Primary Mission: Get the Weapons Case as fast as possible, then take Final Exfil with the case. You may use whatever load out you wish, but if the case is in your bag, a firearm or launcher can not be in your hands. If unengaged for 60 seconds, you must complete a Hunt Contract. Assemble a team if necessary.

I'm a fairly casual player who plays almost exclusively solo, but I actually don't mind the PVP. While it can be frustrating to get spawn killed by a team full of RGL and one-shot shotty users, I like the challenge it presents. I love successfully evading a kill squad, or better yet, wiping them solo. In fact, yesterday on Vondel, I stalked a squad for half the match. I'd kill two of them, let them res, then repeat. And this was all on a run originally meant to craft a skeleton key for a Serpentine run! I get why lots of people are turned off by the levels of PVP, but I like the unique challenge it gives me.

One thing I enjoy in zombies is the community is all cool in game chat and help out with a lot. Wish that could carry over into dmz. If they made things or POI like the aether rifts and rewards from them without PVP. It would be enjoyable.

I love this mode but as a solo player I called it quits once vests were introduced. I loved the addition of vests but looting the parts to craft one on top of doing missions while avoiding 6 man teams became too much. The longer the mode progressed the more aggressive pvp became...not necessarily a bad thing but missions became irrelevant if you just could loot dead players.

Hey @Phixate, TallTitan here, you are spot on your comments. I am strictly a solo player, when PVP got worse and MW3 with zombies, i stop play DMZ as it was not enjoyable to me. When I play MW3 zombies, i screw up for whatever reason or server crash, its not that hard to regain compared to DMZ.

PVP is a must. At first I was all for the 15 minute bundles but the longer I played the more I noticed how much of an issue it became. When UAV's became part of the operator bundles that was hands down the worst decision DMZ made. I didn't have any issue with the cool downs but they should've tagged them to the passives. Other than the obvious fixes that are killing the game I'd purpose changes to the vest systems. Any specialty plates (stealth, med, comms, tempered) would only be 2 plates to better balance it out. I think that little change would really change the game play.

I think the biggest problem right now is that people love the pace of DMZ PVP, but that is all we have now. So, even if they start adding new content or revamp it, everyone is in a kill first, maybe talk after mindset. It will be hard to get the community back to the "friendly" exchanges and help with getting missions done like it was in season 1 and 2. I remember how hard it was to find a GPU on Al Maz, ran into a team that had just found one, joined up with them and then proceeded to help with each other's missions, that was Prime DMZ, and I don't think it will ever be like that again.

Being an EU player, it honestly doesn't feel that much different 😆 Season one EU was still full of sweat/spawn pushing squads, but 6 man ones at that, and good players rarely had gear fear anyway as they just wiped lesser squads and took their guns/plates anyway Saying that, me and my friends still play several games of DMZ a week. We've played other games in between but DMZ is still the most unpredictable random fun we have in any game that keeps pulling us back. Partly because of the regain, and the way exfils/final exfils work too Mainly random for us because we're semi aggressive. If we come across a team with coms that says they are doing missions, or want to fight until one left so they can res and go on our/their way, or if solo's want to join/go about their missions, we have free choice to actually do any of those things. The Open coms is one of the best things in the game because it gives us that level of freedom of choice in gameplay style For me the main thing that was really killing DMZ AND warzone wad that they were both riddled with hackers and still are. Took great satisfaction in managing to kill 2 clear as day wall hackers AND get them banned tonight though 😆

Dynamic weather, seasons (as in spring/summer/autumn/winter) & day/night cycles would change things up quite a bit and change the meta for every game, especially if you had full night, dusk to night, night to dawn, etc. Rainstorms, fog, sandstorms, snow would change the way the game is played. Mixing day and night and weather events would create a huge amount of combinations where one gun or playstyle couldn't dominate, especially if they change during the match. You wouldn't know the weather coming in and you'd have to anticipate or change it up during the match.

What I feel they really need to do if they ever bring it back as an active game mode is to implement a "bad sport" sort of thing like from GTA, where killing more and more operatives starts going against you. starts small like you kill 6 people (2 full squads, this would also go for assists) or more in a single match- for the next 24/48 hours: in every game you join after you are marked, you send off a ping alerting people you're in the game, something like "we got intel that there is a rogue operative/ squad in the area, proceed with caution, they are known to kill other operatives." and your location is pinged every 5 minutes, and the more and more you kill others the timer decreases, all the way up to your dot is ALWAYS on, and if someone kills you they get cash, loot, XP, unlocks, etc. but even though you're killed, your ping stays until the marked timer runs out, making it so you can't lobby wipe 1 or 2 games, then go in and just die to reset, for the full 24/48 you are marked every single game no matter if you die or not. And this goes for your entire squad you load in as well, if you are a bad sport you can not squad fill, and if you bring in a squad and you are a bad sport it marks them all as a bad sport, at whatever level you are at. (in the lobby for readying up it would say "this player is marked at this level, joining them will mark you as well") there's in game dialog that even suggests they were going to go with a marking system like this and never made it "ultra-1, killing other operatives will put a bounty on your head"- but as far as I know, under the current system, outside of picking up someone's dog tags to get marked, a team can wipe an entire lobby, game after game and there's nothing that tells players that there is people like that in the game they're currently in, until they start seeing pleas all around the map

I feel that DMZ should have a 70-30 based for PVE and PVP. PVP is probably the best, but after killing and picking up pleas, it is fun helping with contracts, wiping other teams, and getting looted. Although the 6-man squads were overpowered, they were fun and very good to form. It built relationships and built a community upon people having fun with 6 mans, playing the game how it was intended. It is sad that DMZ has changed this much with Pay to win, Rose skins, 4 mans, and 1 shot shotguns that wont get fixed. Sucks that they scraped DMZ. Season 1 was one of the best seasons, but it was also very buggy.

what's sad is, most of the high follower streamers really pushed the 'manhunt' mindset, which meant all who followed those streamers emulated their behavior, thus leading to the environment that is currently what DMZ is. Season 1 and 2 were the best. Season 3 was ok, and it went downhill after that.

I very much enjoyed original DMZ. I am terrible and, to make it harder, I'm only able to play as a Solo most of the time. Collecting items and guns, doing missions, and taking out the bosses/doing Koeschi Complex solo was my lunchtime thing, and I accepted that I'd occasionally get killed by people doing PVP. When the Insured weapon cost went down and the aggression of the players went up, I literally couldn't play since the second I did anything, I was immediately pounced upon by a 3 man team, sniped from across the map, or killed with a 1 shot shotgun. They found it funny to pursue me across the map non-stop. They baited me constantly by asking for a rez and then having their teammate blast me while I was helping. They'd offer to help on missions and then kill me as I sent the invite. I didn't find that fun, so I don't play DMZ anymore.

I was a staunch solo and my friends had glitched 6 mans so I never got invited not to mention I bought 3 others the game and I would get briefcases solo but what ended me playing was when two 6mans killed me on exfil. Safe to say mw3 zombies is what I wanted tho I see mw2 DMZ is the survival mode in warzone:)

Wipe the 15min timer, minimum 45min for your insured slot. And maximize wallet too 50k so people have to put in some work for example the mrap mission

I personally think it both did and didn't. What I think killed DMZ the most was how rampant hackers and toxic players in general became as MWII came to a close. It always felt like they came over from BR because they can't get wins and only come to DMZ in order to bully people for the hells of it. That's why it made encounters with friendly people all the more memorable, because they became rare.

I used to get frustrated by the pvp when i was playing for missions and the upgrades. But now i have all that done i am enjoying the pvp. Pvp in dmz just feels better than multiplayer or warzone, slower and more tactical. I like that the game is casual but there does need to be some level of gear fear and a use for the ever-full wallet. Also solo players should always be invisible to uav and immune to hunt contracts.

PvP killed it for me. When those short missions you could play coop with came out I loved those so I thought dmz would be it, but it didn't. The first couple seasons were fine until people just dropped in to kill people and not do missions. Additionally, those wait times were ridiculous. A couple hours till you can get your loadout back... Shoot. Then we found out that you could lower the time with the trash bin... Yea... MWZ was how I dreamed DMZ to be, but even that is super buggy...

The only issue for me, is nobody plays to have fun anymore, people are so serious all the time. Appears to be with everyone, since most are solos going against full stack teams.

Developers could have drastically improved the end-game experience by making the rewards for completing daily and weekly missions more enticing. Players that have finished the missions don't care about those missions because they don't need the XP anymore. But if the rewards were something that could be used in-game like (good) contraband weapons or skeleton keys, for instance, I think you'd see the focus shift back towards PvE a bit. Or, you could reward temporarily decreased insured weapon cool downs for completing so many missions in a given time period…stuff like that!

Lack of meaningful out of game economy, generally meaningless items, and lack of content killed DMZ. PvE'rs moved to PvP out of a lack of things to do. Games like The Cycle, did well to maintain a healthy balance with meaningful out of game economy, good progression arcs with missions/quests locking items/weapons/armour away. DMZ has huge potential, and it'd be wise for them to work with someone like Yager to flesh out, the out of game economy etc.

I like moderate pvp but do enjoy the pve aspect of the game more..what would be cool is if the added a solos mode, the pvp wouldn't be so bad if your 1v1 instead of 3v1 , as a solo casual i used to play regularly but I've just give up nowadays its just not enjoyable getting beamed every game 😂

Pvp definitively killed it for me. Season 1 was some of the most fun I have had in a game the last decade. I played a lot and spent a lot on ingame stuff. I hope they make dmz 2, with a way for people to choose how they want to play it. Solo or team againts murderouse bots with lots of missions? Sure go ahead. Full on pvp mode, sure queue for that. I miss the fun I had in dmz all the time

If dmz werent going away this year they should start a seasonal journey, and each 2 months they just rotate the format and missions... sure id be mad people could get the roze skin and all that, but like at least that incentive would be there for sandbox play that special time of year..

I believe PvP has become more challenging as players have become more familiar with the maps and gameplay too. When the game was new, even experienced gamers approached it with caution. I support the 15 min cooldowns for casual players, as it helps level the playing field against more skilled opponents. Gameplay similar to WOW would be interesting. Allow players to toggle PvP on and off. If you direct hit a PvP player you’d be lit up as PvP too.

I think that a system of limiting PVP to hunt squads only (once 2 or 3 other contracts completed) or PVP zones. Would help balance. I do enjoy PVP but the state of the game now basically removes everything but.. it is driving new and old casual players away

I believe the answer lies with a new game mechanic. If operators are off mission when killing other operators, it should be seen as a "war crime" or similar and penalized to the point it makes hunting pointless - (Maybe an exception for the one or two missions that target other operators). PvP while on mission is great. Operators who are only keen on hunting should be pushed into Warzone game modes or given a PvP specific mode in DMZ.

The endless PvP has ruined it for me. Especially when I have to go in with a single plate against seasoned guys with the 3 plate stealth, a back pack full of plates, revives and UAV's. I don't stand a chance! They need to make a PvP option, kinda like the squad fill. Choose "yes" and it's every man/team for itself, choose "no" and then the casual players like me can do missions with friends, and if you shoot another player it would say " Watch it! friendly fire you asshole" It would be the best of both worlds.

At first DMZ was very mission, contract, achievement focused, with a a little PvP in contested areas. Then as the game progressed and people were feeling gangked and even undermined, this lead to a sense of getting even with other players. Good luck doing missions on Vondel and Ashika. People were coming out of the gate looking to mow down players. Trying do missions/contracts on Ashika was unbearable. Forget trying to solo on these smaller maps, that was nearly impossible. I've enjoyed MWZ because you're not being denied progression by other players. I'm very curious if in the next iteration of DMZ there may be uncontested and contested areas. If the Dev were to make a sever for DMZ that was exclusive PvE, I'd be back in a heartbeat.

13 man exfil with 6 man teams was only possible in early seasons. I definitely agree the current meta is ... awful. Also 5 attachment weapons are PVE-possible.

I know a lot of people say PVP killed it for them, and makes me wonder, what percentage of them dont play DMZ anymore? I highly doubt DMZ would be as busy as it is considering it does not get update if it was not by the PvP.

I still like to do missions that are left contracts. Calling card unlocks and other stuff. Then PvP But don’t purposely look for PvP.

Yeah the missions were not too exciting and were the most basic tasks which made PVP more desirable for players. They could’ve made missions more like campaign missions with more of a story. I think they also missed a huge opportunity to incorporate stealth mechanics so that bots wouldn’t be giving away your location constantly. I think the disguise was a really good idea for solos but unfortunately they didn’t make them as effective as they needed to be and eventually erased them entirely.

PVP in Warzone really sucked during the lifetime of DMZ. That's why many people (including me) went to DMZ for PVP gameplay.

PvP definitely killed DMZ. I think the fix would be fewer players loading in. And I know Phix doesn’t like the 15 minute bundles but I have a 15 minute crossbow that is crazy fun even though it’s slow to reload and doesn’t do a ton of damage.
