Really informative breakdown. I love seeing the ins and outs of a match and the adaptation that allow for dramatic shifts like this. Too often do people just see stuff like “Riddles beat Leo with Kaz” and just chalk it up to the characters being broken. Actually being able to see the matches and breakdowns like this are so important

I remember watching the pound set and thinking, "Wow, Leo is just reading him like book". Riddles kept doing neutral getup to try to get his combos going and kept being incredibly grab happy which made it easy for Leo to just predict what he was going to do and punish it. To be fair, if Riddles landed those he could win but at the same point complete linearity in his game plan led to his own failure. He also dropped combos a lot too from what I remember which certainly didn't help him. During the games at summit he still dropped some combos but he didn't let it effect him as much mentally and was always making the most out of it. Add to that the he was doing way more ambiguous setups which let him get a lot more confirms. One of Riddles biggest weaknesses as a player is that he mentally gives up when things don't go his way and he starts going into autopilot and using little to no strategy. Tweek used to have the same kind of problem which is why once he was in losers he would usually get eliminated fairly quickly against people he probably shouldn't be losing to. Both players have recognized that fault though and they are clearly getting better at maintaining focus which is nice to see.

I think the roy matchup is really swingy, but I think its even-ish with maybe a slight kazuya favor. Electric is pretty easy to get going because it occupies the zone roy usually wants to swing at, but if roys actually play the matchup to zone instead of run in then idk it could be roy favor.
@ambush41442 жыл бұрын
You fucked up saying it's slight Kaz favor then going back to Roy favor. Kazuya mostly dominates since Roy needs to get in his ewgf burst range

Great video but the ending just made you lose some credibility because you used one facet of smash (taking the stock with stray hits) to argue how an entire matchup is. Its a variable yes but I have to think neutral, playstyle, etc. to make those bold claims TLDR; Its not just the ability to kill with stray hits determines an entire matchup, other stuff does

hippo im new to the channel and Im loving this analysis! On paper roy does beat kazuya but when actually playing its a lot harder than it looks, with roy sweetspots only being towards the handle of the sword most roys generally allow kazuya space which is really bad. The main things roy can actually abuse against the kazuya matchup would probably only be aerials aswell as side b/up b. Thats my take on the roy vs kazuya matchup, let me know what you think!
@sergiooliva25172 жыл бұрын
I agree byleth is better than aegies, but the reason why he is barely taking chances with byleth is because everyone knows now the back and forth play that byleth does, hence is vulnerable, you can tell during the matchup in the summit against tweek. Switching to byleth helped to even then match but that didn’t guarantee the victory, besides Leo started in losers brackets.

its worth noting that while pyra/mythra advantage state is wayy stronger than byleth, it doesnt suit mkleo as well, leo is know for flashy reads that lead to devastating hits or combos, you get a huge read as byleth, your opponent is probably dying, you get a huge read as mythra and your opponent is taking 60 and youre back to neutral, leos playstyle works way, way better with byleth vs a character whos main goal is to just rack up %

As a melee player, I can tell that some of this is very hype. But it does also look like a bunch of practice mode combos which isn't hype *to me*. I am not judging your game, there is a reason why MKLeo has been dominating. A game that doesn't require skill wouldn't have the same people in top 8 over and over. It just feels like this game is all about small mindgames that either gets punished way too hard with no counterplay options or the same old back air for 30 seconds to repeat the same situation. Please Ultimate fans, tell me why this game is so exciting to you! I really want to understand so that I can enjoy this game the same way you do! :D
