I have been visiting China since 2002 and have never seen bats at markets. But I was a pilot in New Guinea for 7 years and in Madang I lived opposite the police station at the corner of Kasagten Road and Yamauan Street and witnessed the police shooting bats out of their trees usually in the afternoons with shotguns many times in 1996/7. You should be able to get the protocol for the gain of function research that was conducted at the Wuhan Laboratory. The protocol should allow Laboratories around the world to conduct the same experiments and verify the results. This is called peer review. Research is about collecting evidence there should be mountains of evidence. When you write a proposal you include the protocol in order to get to get funding. WHO has got the protocol? A lot of what you present here as lab leak evidence is fully compatible with the following scenario: natural emergence in October, an inept/criminally bad reaction by the Chinese government including possibly closure of the lab, international spread by the same event, etc. all without a pathway through the lab. Or they could have had an outbreak and tried to get the lab involved and really screwed it up. As long as there are possibilities like those we're nowhere close to beyond reasonable doubt. The single source and specific protein arguments do nothing to seal the deal. It could easily be that the unlikely animal to human transfer happened only once and that this most remarkable coronavirus just happened to have an unlikely structure. As strong as some of this case seems, it's worth noting also that US intelligence agencies reportedly have low to medium confidence in the lab leak theory. No less but no more and no conclusive evidence as yet. That seems to be where we're really at. My own gut says lab leak but that doesn't count for much. I look forward to more news on this. Yes, I agree with you a hundred percent. The crime has been to completely discount the possibility of a lab leak as impossible despite all of this information actually being known the whole time. Now people are starting to ask the right questions. So even if the evidence eventually points to natural emergence that doesn’t bother me, but classifying people as conspiracy theorists when it’s a completely plausible scenario is irresponsible. The Nature Medicine paper shown between 5:35 and 6:03 is used in this video as the major evidence for SARS-CoV-2 being generated in WIV. However, detailed information provided in the paper indicates that the virus gain-of-function work was done in laboratories of USA universities. WIV only provided the original coronavirus materials for this kind of work. Is this mistake in information coming out of carelessness or being purposeful??

Yes, a lot of the work for that paper was done by Ralph Baric’s lab in UNC. However, the WIV is a huge repository of coronaviruses. The oversight my part was in not highlighting the viral repository and focusing more on the 2013-2015 GoF work. Actually it’s not so much where the work was completed (it’s important that it was done).. what matters is where the virus could have been stored and used for other types of research. For example, the original GoF research may have been done in UNC.. but when later studies using the modified virus (which then no longer qualify as GoF) are done at WIV, it means the risk for lab escape is no longer at UNC.
