With regards to this video now the game is out. We have clear proof there were no downgrades. Everything I was saying, like I said, was to be taken with a pinch of salt as we're just basing our judgement from screenshots that could make the game look a particular way. But not the game is out we can all see it looks absolutely spectacular (pardon the pun)

In that last image, the sun is clearly in different places. In the 'good' version, the sun is pointing at an angle creating golden hour lighting. In the newer picture, the sun is pointing straight down. During that time, you wouldn't ever get the haze effects in the street. In the new picture, they also blur the background so that far away textures don't need to be fully loaded into the scene. They're simply trying to make the game less graphically intensive.

Its not that they moved the sun, its that the sun moved (time moved), from what ive heard. Also, with the backflip image, the cars wouldnt be in the same place because its supposed to be an active world, cars and people wont be in the same place, but yes it is weird that the sun makes that much of a difference, hopefully it's lighting.

Vincent Romero the sun shouldn’t make that much of a difference to where the colours and contrast look completely different and if it does make that much of a difference they should have made the time of the day the same as in the older pictures and trailers. It’s clearly a fact that the older ones looked better so why would they choose to use a time of day where it looks worse than what they’ve shown us in the past? Also, this game doesn’t have a dynamic time of day, you choose the time of day yourself so everything you’ve said is wrong lol

Digital Foundry covered this. The visuals were actually polished overall. The main difference is that the material of the suit was altered to have a less plastic-looking, less reflective surface to make it more realistic, but the texture detail is at the same level. You griped a lot about the visuals looking "worse" due to the sun being switched to a different angle and asked why they'd even change it in the first place if it looks "worse" as a result. By your logic, why not put the sun in the same location for the entirety of the game? Hmmm...see why your question is silly? Things change throughout development and just because the lighting is different in those particular scenes doesn't mean you won't find that same lighting that you loved so much at other points in the game. And why would you compare the visuals in a sunset screenshot to visuals of a mid-day screenshot? You'll even notice that the buildings aren't all the same color either. And comparing traffic/crowd density is pointless if it's procedurally generated or randomized (since you can't expect it to be at the same level everywhere all of the time). I'm not trying to hate on you or your video, it's a fair concern...but just check out Digital Foundry's video on the game and you'll realize for yourself how little you know of what you're talking about lol

Now im not exactly an expert but in the image of Spiderman leaping of the building you would assume that the newest picture is captured at another time of day. That would mean there would be a different amount of pedestrians and cars and the lighting would be different. Dont know but just a theory.

As someone who works in game dev, devs do sometimes change lighting arbitrarily. Sometimes it’a performance, sometimes it’s an art style change. Hell I bet, they may have had QA feedback saying some areas were too dark, so they brightened the lighting system which then created large issues of glare with big puddles and skyscrapers at a distance, so they cut puddles and added more fog rather than addressing the core issue. And that happens a lot in game dev.

Maybe if the sun was in the same place something in somewhere else look bad. I don't know, and In the backfliping image, maybe in the 2016 version it's rush hour, so there are more pedestrians on the street versus the 2018 version that seems to be at midday (where most people are at home) it's like that in my country I don't know if it's the same in New York.

While I agree with everything you've said about it, didn't they also say that the newer footage was compressed because it was on some video or something? I don't care enough to look into it but I think that was their explanation as to why everything looks flat/lower quality. The moving of the sun was the explanation for the different lighting, I think. Either way, the point remains that the important thing is that it looks worse now, not why it does. And of course they're probably still lying. I just noticed you missed out that one thing from the video.

The last image that you compared was actually a bit different: when you're comparing both keep in mind the different time of day, which would effect the lighting, pedestrian count, amount of cars/ traffic even the spidey suit. Don't believe me? Just go watch like 2 mins of the playable demo and you'll see that it's set in the same time as the original trailer and it has a high pedestrian count And has lots of cars and detail everywhere. You can also compare in one of the latest trailers the different types of lighting and how it affects spiderman and the environment, one making it look shiny, matte-ish and the original 2016 look (well mostly)

The game doesn't have a day and night cycle I believe, I think I read somewhere that they change the time depending of missions, and after the story you can choose the time of day you want. So they did move the sun for daytime

Although I think when they said the sun had moved, were they not talking about the comparison in the tweet they responded to? So, they meant the sun had moved in the specific images that showed a comparison between the selfies of Spider-man webslinging? Since in that comparison it does look like both pictures are different in-game times (4:10). If they did mean that specific comparison, since that was the tweet he replied to with "the sun moved" (and not the pictures with the puddle issue), then that is more evidence for the downgrade. Since yes that single picture *could* be explained with "the sun moved" (again, I know this is a bs excuse), but it doesn't apply to the other comparisons. It is just LazerzZ is acting like "the sun moved" was their general statement against downgrading, but I took at as James Stevenson replying to the specific tweet (at 4:10) he was replying to. Although I haven't researched it much, so if it was their general statement then my bad. I'm taking it at face value from this video.
