If you will take a Booyah Toadrunner and remove the paddle tail, then slip the eye of a big enough treble hook over each existing hook, that hook-up ratio will increase significantly. Kinda like using the trebles as trailer hooks if you catch my drift.

I used to have 2x Florida Gars in my aquarium for like 10 years. They really like to smell things before they bite. My suggestion is to get some fish scent on your lures next time, when he follows it up, just slightly twitch it and I could almost guarantee he’ll grab it at the surface like a dead minnow. Mine used to come up and grab my fingers so I wouldn’t go dangling anything in that water that you don’t want bitten.

Fellow rock hound here, those pieces of petrified wood were amazing. And I think agates are some of the most beautiful stones, especially Mexican lace and moss. My area is crap for agates. Well for gemstones in general it's crap. The local rock shop has the dullest and most awful agates I've seen. Lol. Anyways it's cool to see other people into stones and fossils and fishing of course :)

I was on a boat in the bayou, I reeled it in, a kid so I'm close to the water and then alligator jaws popped up and I threw the whole pole. 🤦😂😂😂 I thought my uncle would never stop laughing. 😂😂😂😭😭😭 (Guess it was a cheap pole lol)

Geologist here (also like to fish), the fossil tree with rings would be nice slab at about 1 inch thick and polished. But that will definitely take a stone saw with water because it formed when molecules of quartz substituted for the wood to make the hard fossil. So it is harder than most granite. So it is very hard stuff. Before I would buy any of that equipment (if u don't already have) you can buy polished slabs on ebay. For me this video was awesome mix of fossil trees and 2 species of living fossil fish.

You shouldn't do that with the alligator gar especially the monster ones like we have in Texas. At one time alligator gars were everywhere they were considered trash fish and almost fished to Extinction one of the few places where they still grow this large is the Trinity River it's important as a fisherman and a Texan to preserve these fish finding them this large is impossible anywhere else catch and release.

Love seeing monsters. About 20 years ago I lived on a small brackish lake in N.Miami Beach. Would do night fishing in my 18’ deep v with my dad. Floating live mullet. Caught a log, or so I thought. Dead weight for an hour on 25 lb test. Got it alongside the boat and it was a massive gar, as long as the boat, beak about 2’ long and 2” scales! There are hidden giants out there for sure. Oh, released the old dud unharmed.

I've commented before and this time is no different. I just have to, dude your the absolute master in my eyes of just manimalizing a fish. Grabbing it trebles and all to get it on board. But to watch you "try" and set your hook well it's all kinds of excitement, on your behalf. Of I remember correctly the fish should have hook set in its mouth then what like a ninja you drive the hook home as it was an manuver done while blind folded. I think today's sets, one hit you bud in the forehead and another had a set of gar lips on the hook nothing else. I went to feeling tickled , thanks

They are up there to get away from the flooded river and fast current! Henry is a great guy, and he has a huge passion for gar! Thanks for always watching Farmer bob!

@@TyPigPatrol I’m sorry, you did say that at the beginning of the video. If Henry sees this I apologize for getting his name wrong, I had a senior moment. I’d love to fish with you guys some day, you always have fun no matter what the fishing is like.

Haven't read all of the comments but we've had excellent luck with hook-less frayed nylon cord as lures. Just the cheap white with pink cord from HD. We attached to swivels with braided line and use fluro leader. 🤠

I remember as a child giving fishing shows a chance (repeatedly) and being so incredibly bored. You never really saw anything, the camera angles were bad. The hokey added music and stuff was terrible. They had no real personality. I despised fishing shows. I'm not sure if it's you or the go pro or what, but this.. makes me really miss fishing. This was *fun* to watch.

Eastern Texas is an alluvial plain, so this is typical of east Texas rivers. Since the terrain is so flat, the rivers, especially in the eastern half of the state, have extremely little current unless there had been a recent rain, and are therefore often quite muddy. However, these rivers are home to some impressive fish.

I have a few simple questions to ask you. First question is what type/size reel are you using in the video? Second question is what Lb. Line did you have on before the leader? My final question is what state were you fishing in? Of course if you don't mind me asking. Thanks for the Kool videos you do and the time you take to respond back to your comments.

I saw using a 4" piece of nylon rope for a lure for Gar. The threads get into their teeth for a better hook set. Have you ever tried this? If not, I hear a challenge for you! 😉
