To be fair, I've been saying "I don't know if Ben Johnson will be a good head coach" for the past 2 years. Maybe that wasn't the common sentiment, but there's a lot of great coordinators that were terrible HC's and I wasn't sure he had the same "leader of men" quality that great HC's require, only time will tell.

So, it would have been Lions in 1st, Vikings in 2nd, Packers in 3rd, Bears in 4th, for the NFC north division.

The only player that was of note that sat was Jacobs. The rest were nursing injuries, which is just football. You lost, get over it. As a Lions fan, I totally disagree. I love Ben, but most X's & O's genius OCs fail as head coaches. They are two totally different jobs requiring two vastly different skillsets. Ben feels like the next Josh (& to a lesser extent Mike) McDaniels/Hackett......not the next McVay. Regardless, he is at a major disadvantage given that he is at the bottom of a division with 3 other teams that are vastly more talented & better coached, so unless they are giving him an incredibly long runway, if the bar to keeping his job is to win the division in the next 3-4 seasons, he will almost certainly be a coordinator again in 2029 bc the Bears won't win the NFC North any time soon. If the bar is making the playoffs as a wildcard, he might stick around a while though, as he might be able to pull that off in a couple of years or so, with a little luck & a new GM that is competent.

The "Bear Down" thing Chicago started using is the most fitting motto in North American sports bc they are about as down as it gets, firmly entrenched in the cellar of their division & staring up at 3 other teams that they have little chance of climbing over in the next decade, especially when their new head coach, while undeniably an offensive genius, isnt an imposing leader of men. Ben Johnson feels less like McVay & more like McDaniels & Hackett. He doesn't give off the charismatic leader of men feel that guys like Vrabel, Tomelin, Campbell, Ried & Belichick exude. I fully believe he will be talked about as one of the best OCs in the NFL again, after 2-4 at or below .500 years in Chicago, when people finally realize that not every great coordinator makes a good head coach & he is back to doing the job he is extremely good at with his next team as their OC.
