@@BenMueller-ct4by In 2018 Trubisky had 3223 passing yards and 24tds. In 2023 Goff had 4575 passing yards and 30 tds (that would be the best passing season in Bears history). In 2018 Allen Robinson had 754 yds and 4 tds. In 2023 Amon Ra St. Brown had 1515 yards and 10 tds. In 2018 (that would be the best receiving season in Bears history) Jordan Howard had 935 yds and 9 tds. In 2023 Jahmyr Gibbs had 945 yds and 10 tds and he wasn't the Lions leading rusher. The Lions had a profoudly better offense than the 2018 Bears.

For every example of a team that lost a conference championship game or a Superbowl that did not return, there is an example of a team that did. In recent years, you have the 49ers, who lost Superbowl 54 to the Chiefs. They returned to the Superbowl this year and made the NFC championship game last year. The Los Angeles Rams lost in Superbowl 52, but returned in Superbowl 56. If a team is a good team, they can return. To be fair, a lot has to go right for a team to even reach the conference championship game or the Superbowl, but to say they'll never return and that their window is closed is a strong statement. Some teams can continually compete for Superbowls because they are good teams, plus their division is trash. I take nothing away from Tom Brady and the Patriots or Patrick Mahommes and the Chiefs, or Peyton Manning and the Colts. But, they were extremely fortunate to have played when the rest of the teams in the division were horrible for a long period of time. I will admit that the Lions unfortunately are good during a time when the rest of their division is rapidly improving. That may be the biggest factor in them not being able to reach the championship game again. But, those teams also have to play the Lions. And if I'm not mistaken, the Lions are 9-3 in their division over the past two years - including their 9-8 season.

We missed our window but we're literally bringing back our whole team back outside of CJGJ who barely played. We just got better at corner where we struggled, lost JJ at guard but can replace him, and just got Reader lol. Not saying the Packers wont be good but to say our window is close but other teams like the 49ers are always in the window or the eagles who collapsed last year is laughable

There are also countless examples of young teams losing in the playoffs that did indeed make it back in the following years. GB may or may not be better than the Lions but even if they are there is such a thing as wild card teams in the NFL and if you get in the playoffs you have a chance.

Can we stop with this GB hype? They’ll be a decent team but to compare a team that went 10-9 to a team that went 14-6 is crazy to me. Nothing about the packers was elite. They had a top 12 offense and a middle of the pack defense. The Lions have maybe the best offense in the NFL and they’re also young, meanwhile the defense is young and coming together as well. 1) the Bills are up against Mahomes and the Chiefs and they simply can't get past them. Throughout sports historically, there are just some matchups where one side is snakebit. 2) the Bengals were not built for the long haul - wasn't their defense made up of free agents and castoffs from other teams (that said, welcome to the team, DJ Reader!)? 3) Dan Marino never had a running game. I think a balanced offense has historically been a better bet than an offense that only had 1 thing going for it. (pssst - the Lions have a balanced offense) 4) "that team is getting better and better" - oh, you mean the Lions? Besides Goff, all their best players are 2nd, 3rd and 4th year players. You can't make that kind of statement just yet, Greenberg. You only know the Lions being historically poor and you expect them to trend downward next year. For those of us who have watched them closely for decades - and yes, it's been excruciating - this is just the beginning. It looks like the NFC North is going to be really interesting the next few years. Who knows what's going to happen?

as a lion's fan, this conversation is hilarious. lions had so many rookies and guys that were injured and still made it that far. GB is going to be good, but not that good. detroit just made the defense so much stronger - and the draft is still coming. NFC north is going to be good this year, but detroit is the best. every group is improving and the young guys the were playing on injuries will be totally healthy, williams, pascal, houston, on and on. the lions will be hunting cheese this year, not the other way around.

He didnt explain HOW teams have gotten better than them... just past other teams as examples... The Packers and Bears got better but so did the Lions... we had an elite run defense and added DJ Reader.... whos also been double teamed at a top 10 rate and a pass rush success in the top 20... we got better at corner and added a pass rusher in Davenport...

Free agency we did good met with another great cb today. We picked up zonovan , goff, glasglow, reeves maybin, st brown close to deal. Comminsky gave up 2 million to get houston back. Davis we got 2x 6 rounders. We could've got keenan for the 4th etc. Were not done. Watch the draft also brad , dan Nd ben are locked up .

Whaaa? OK, the Detroit Lions missed their chance to SURPRISE anyone and get a ring. No one is sleeping on the Lions in 2024, which shows in the offseason moves by every team in the NFC North. It's going to be an all out WAR for the north with everyone ready to take it to another level. For all the examples that Greeny brought up, they were failures of teams to rise up to the new challenge. DC knows this. He was talking about the new challenge after the NFC Champ game - who knows, maybe that's where this narrative comes from. In addition to that, BH's strategic use of cap space is building for the long term and retention rather than spending quickly for a single season run (like LA). Unless there is a fire sale going on, teams "windows" don't open and close in a single year. A team's ability to rise up and surprise and snag a championship before people realize it is usually only a single season. But hey, go ahead and dismiss the Lions. Yep, they suck.... don't worry about them whatsoever...
