Back here in blighty, if you want an MOT with no effing about with dodgy teeth-suckers, use a council depo test centre, you're allowed to use them by law cos it's an official MOT station, they have no interest in up-selling unnecessary work or pulling the "Yeah, I can't let you drive out in this" lines, just a test, and get a yes or a no, not the best choice for classics or older vehicles where the kids these days wouldn't know a knife edge from their trunion, but for every day cars & vans, perfect choice... :)

I use a test station that only does mots, can't recommend them highly enough, bestwood village MOT, Nottingham for anyone in the area.

Usually you can only get property in that sort of price range in places no one wants to live in, usually because there's close to zero chances of finding a job anywhere near. I recently watched a YT video where a German bought a house in a small town at an auction for 50k, which is cheap, even considering it's a small house with a little shop/office and a poorly laid out 2-bedroom flat that hasn't seen any renovation since the Berlin wall came down above. I reckon if the same place was in Berlin, you could easily add a zero to that price and possible then double that.

Yes....BREXIT 🤐🤬 you can apply for an entrepreneurial visa to be self employed in Spain Al, not sure if the same can be done in France, maybe worth looking into.. Do what's best for you mate, you're only here once.. and do it sooner rather than later! But keep the videos coming!! All the best 👍

I sold my old Range Rover Classic when the MOT had 3 months and I didn’t want to go through the annual body welding again to do another year. It was bought by a British expat living in France and apparently it cruised through the CT there so they obviously aren’t to fussed (or expecting?) of rust in the Bordeaux region. A major plus for him was that it had already been converted from air to coil suspension (it was a soft dash TDI Vogue SE) as he claimed in France it had to be exactly as it was registered with no mods so if he bought a vehicle that was still on air he’d be forced to keep fixing that system.

Thanks for the footage, of the villages, however fast of the filming. Happy memories of exploring the place in the 70's and 80's. I've followed prices over there for years. You have always been able to "knock a nought off the end" compared with the UK! A friend of my Dad's bought an old farm in the Dordogne in the 1960's. Took him twenty odd years to find the time to complete it! We were going to move near Nantes in 2015, but weren't fast enough. Now family commitments are keeping us in the UK. 😢 Keep us updated.

Dear Al , I don't know if your stillin France living the dream (or at least trying to establish it) But I want you to have a look at a channel called "Those Happy Days" ,It's a couple who do the Van life bit travelling around just living there dream , anywho they paid 11k for an engine swap 4 months back and the head gaskets gone on there refurb engine. They have tons of followers and seen a decent couple , perhaps a collaboration to fix there home/van? They are about to go on a 5 week adventure leaving there van in the UK so loads of time , check them out , if it's if interest let them know , I don't know them personally but thought you guys could make a great video or two out of the situation and naybe help them out , cheers Nik

My dream for years was to retire to France,still having to assure my lovely wife this is a good idea but with the. My bird got a mortgage self employed with the nationwide through a mortgage broker financial advisor I knew She’s a driving instructor who was renting thinking £10k a year was ok and I’m like no no noooooo . 5 years ago found a £100k gaff she put £5k down and mortgage was £550 a month and 3 years later interest was so low she locked into another deal for £370 a month so she’s laughing at the mo especially as the gaffs worth £160k You can do it if you Chief Rocka knew it 👍

Spain has similar vehicle test to the French CT (the ITV), transferring ownership is a bit of a faff having to have copy ID's and a sales contract, and vehicles must be insured even if off road being fixed. If it were not for those last two things, I'd probably have 20 cars here by now. Oh, and add in the fact that a car selling for £1,000 in the UK is about double that here. But with no rust, even on Transit vans (although the engines will still blow). Good luck Al, love the videos, UK and French ones would be great comparing vehicles, spare parts, and parts obtained from scrapyards.

Interesting to hear about the CT and transfers etc in France Al , we live in Galicia and also have a sprinter and a huge workshop , house , all sounds very similar re paperwork , but it usually sorts itself with a little patience , I’m fortunate to be Spanish resident as been here over 20 years but I know what you mean about Brexit , it just keep on giving 😒 Oh and a commercial vehicle , even a small van , ITV , mot ! is every 6 months 😢

They ship from Germany, so it's nothing to do with the UK leaving the EU, I ordered in Spain and gave up after 2 weeks and ordered local which came the next day.

Autodoc Are based in Germany, So that is where the parts come from, I use them in France and they are not to bad, but have also used them in Spain (within the EU) and they take forever so much so I stopped using them, it seems to me the best online parts in France are Oscara but they are sometimes more expensive. Welcome to France hope it all works out.

You can still register the van to your name as a non resident, but you will have to have an address in France, you could use your mates address if he is ok with that. It's when you change the reg from UK to French that a non resident has a problem as you would have to pay import duty (so still possible), where a "new" resident could change the reg tax free but only once as part of his goods coming to France, they have 12 months to do so btw.

In France the vehicle is insured it states it on the Green Insurance certificate. It states any person authorised to drive this vehicle. So anyone who has permission from the owner or insured.

I’ve been thinking in the same way, buy a property in France and pop between the uk and France for the next remaining years until I retire then hopefully just stay in France, not sure how long or easy it is to obtain French residency, something to sort out, I wasn’t aware of the vehicle keeping and transferring laws, a bit of a thumbs down in some respects, best of luck whichever way you go bud 👍😎👍
