Did the Government Steal this Porsche 911 Turbo?

These civil asset forfeiture cases are getting out of hand. I was recently asked about a Porsche 911 Turbo which turned out to be auctioned as a result of one of these forfeiture cases. After looking into it, holy smokes, there's a lot of suspect material here. Did the government straight up steal this guy's stuff for no reason?

Civil asset forfeiture is the biggest crimes done by the government against citizens. They take your stuff and you have to sue to have it returned. Criminal asset forfeiture is enough - if they committed a crime, and found guilty, then take their stuff. At 8 million dollars, you’d think it would be enough to sue, but maybe that was all they had to their name, so they cannot afford a lawyer.

Problem is the department that did the forfeiture gets a cut from the feds. Plus if it is a small dollar value it isn’t worth going to court.

One better; If you choose to pursue getting your money or assets back the prosecutor will then typically move ahead on charges against you, so now you're fighting in civil court for your money / assets returned as well as defending yourself against criminal charges. And lets not forget prosecutors can file charges that they know they will not get a conviction or that you are even remotely guilty, with zero negative for the gov prosecutors, meaning they use the criminal vector in order to discourage most people from fighting for their stuff back. Happened to myself with a traffic stop and $13,000 in cash on the way to a Mannheim auction in Sacramento California... Corrupt to the core.

In this particular case, the claimants had a whole bunch of LLCs that owned different properties and the gov't seized all of those assets, claiming that the LLCs were shell corporations set up specifically for the purposes of laundering money. So, no.

@switchcars But what if you're legit and just have a lot of assets? It seems nothing will stop them from taking your stuff, warranted, or unwarranted.

No charges being publicly filed leads me to believe that they came to some sort of Deal or agreement.... this way although he loses his assets he can still remain free from jail..? IDK makes sense to me😅

I lived in Northern California in the early 2000’s when it was the epicenter of pot. DEA used to raid people and take hundreds of thousands and never file a charge. Civil asset forfeiture

I actually had something similar happen not the F.E.D.S but local columbus law enforcement. They took everything from my car i had 800 dollars in my wallet. They took that as well. Then like a year later i go to the mailbox and theres a check from the city of columbus for my money. I got the cash back! Once the case was over is basiclly what i’m saying.

That doesn't generally happen in civil asset forfeiture. You were lucky - cpd has screwed me over in the past. I had a shotgun stolen, dude used it in a crime and was arrested. They "lost" it, and I was out the $.

@-Jason-L your right but also this was circa 2001-2002 when all this happend. I got the money back mid 2002. So a very different time back then.
