I do love me some ancient men. There was this one theory that the stone masks were made out of the stand meteorite somehow and a lot of stuff to that, but this just makes the whole situation easier with easier answers. Also, thank you for being one of the people that understand the whole Hermit Purple & Hamon topic. Stands are a manifestation of your fighting spirit so it's just natural that Hamon masters have Hermit Purple but Kars doesn't see Hamon as a weapon but more like something to humiliate the Hamon masters with their own power. His fighting spirit doesn't revolve around hamon, so he wouldn't have Hermit Purple.

The stone mask doesn't affect stands but rather their time limits if involved with time. Humans can only stop time for five seconds and delete time for ten seconds. Jotaro's time stop would increase if he was a vampire. King Crimson would have higher stamina if he was a vampire. Human Dio would just The World but limited to five seconds.

I agree, Araki doesn't seem to plan in advance and that kind of helps the story in way because he doesn't limit the plot to what he had planned (imagine if everything in the manga was like Phantom Blood, instead evoluting every part with something fresh, it would had probably grow stale). I don't like that he's forgetful as a writer and he frequently leaves unfired Chekhov's Guns around, but I guess making manga schedules don't give the mangakas much time to write (specially weekly mangas, they barely have time to draw them in time for printing, let alone planning a story), that's why a lot of mangakas make a lot of stupidly stretched fights and fanservice filler arcs. I'm glad that Araki stuck with the small forgotten plotlines/unexplained stuff and didn't add filler arcs. BTW, I've heard that some mangakas have to sacrifice a lot so they can actually plan a plot for their mangas. For example apparently Aoyama Gosho, the creator of Detective Conan still has his schedule like he had no assistants at all, when in reality he has a whole team (the team is so big and experienced they actually make a spin-off manga on their own). It's rumored that his schedule was that he sleeped 2 hours a day divided into 1.5 at night and two 15 minute naps. Except saturday when he sleeped three hours. Apart from that sleep he only had 3 hours of free time not including lunch (it was implied he somehow worked through lunch). It's kind of sad, he and the seiju of Conan fell in love and got married, but they never saw each other because of their schedules, they divorced even when they apparently still loved each other. They still have to see each other at work 10 years after (thankfully mangakas don't have to interact with anime seijus that much).

Joseph's stand only manifested, because Dio got pierced with the stand arrow and everyone in the Joestar bloodline had their stand powers basically forced out of themselves. He still had the potential to unlock the physical manifestation of Hermit Purple, but he stopped hamon training, so his power was instead awakened by Dio.

If the Pillar Men had stands and could see Hermit Purple's vines wrapped around Joseph, then they would've known that he's a Hamon user also.

I personally believe that Santana did have a Mode like the other Pillar Men; I call his Mode 'Bendy Boy', but another commenter named Santana's stand 'Smooth,' which is less of a joke, so I'm ok with either. While I acknowledge that Wamuu demonstrated that all Pillar Men can do crazy contortion crap, Wamuu did something that places his bendiness at a level below Santana's: Wamuu used his hands to push his body parts away. All Santana had to do to squeeze through the air vents was to do some stretches, which is just a good idea to stay limber. While the other Pillar Men explored exotic and bizarre forms of the power the mask granted them, Santana augmented the more "normal" aspects of his body, to the point that he could bend his bones like they were rubber, or have his skin draw hamon away from his viscera and into the ground, protecting him as rubber protects from lightning.

Three objections: 1. Stands have to manifest in order to be seen, and Joseph was notable when he first met each of the Pillar Men in that he did not maintain his Ripple Breathing constantly. 2. All of the Pillar Men had the ability to turn to stone, not just Santana; it's what makes them Pillar Men. He very much did not have a Mode. He may however have used a standard Stone Mask, the model without a receptacle for Red Stones, to become more powerful than a normal Pillar Man without awakening a Mode. A vampire among Pillar Men, if you will, but not a Stand user. Also recall that even a mere vampire like Dio was able to immediately regenerate from his brain being cut in half by a Ripple-imbued sword swing, so it's no surprise Santana was able to fight for a short while in the day. 3. Joseph only gained the ability to see Stands about a year before Part 3 despite technically having had a Stand since birth. It's reasonable to expect that the Pillar Men never met whatever hidden condition is necessary for Stand sight in the same way that Joseph didn't until the 80s.

I was really confused when I first saw this page, but now I think I understood, what Araki meant by that. So, what is stand in general? According to part 5 stand - is a form of your immune sistem, fighting with the arrow virus. It was never mentioned, that to unlock stand you should have this exact virus, rather you should go through something terrible, what will bring out all of the potential of your brain in order to protect you. So, as Kars sad, stone mask unlocks the true potential of the body. I think, that vampire and pillarman powers are just lower forms of stands, when user cant control or see his stand, like kid Giorno, when he saved that gangster. Probably Kars even knowed about stand meteorite, but hadn't give a shit about it, becouse his main goal was to overcome his problem with sun, not gaining supernatural powers.

But then, by the same logic, humans with stands wouldn't be able to perceive "lesser" stands, such as the animals. You could make a point if we only had part 3, as Iggy's stand has a physical manifestation, therefore being visible to everyone, and Pet Shop's stand is only shown in the battle with Iggy, meaning no human sees it. But we have the Part 4 Ratts. In fact, we can only say for sure that non-human stands are visible for humans because of Ratt. Mr. President in Part 5 doesn't have a spirit-like manifestation at all, meaning that nobody can actually see it, and you can put non-stand users in it to begin with. In Part 6 you have FF, but she was given the stand using a disc, and is a physical manifestation too. So actually you may be onto something.

Araki's writing was truly genius with Mikitaka, because there's evidence pointing to him being an alien, and evidence pointing to him being a human with a Stand. I always thought that it was because of the fact that Santana DIDN'T used the stone mask that he could stay in the sun without melting, because ACDC was definitely destroyed by the Sun and didn't became stone. And all 3 pillarmen were weak against Hamon, while Santana could resist to it and simply use his own body as a hamon conduct (just like Lisa's scarf).

Joseph's was awakened where he could use it because of Dio and in part 2 he just couldn't use it yet due to it being in a dormant state. If you say it's a stand shared among practitioners of Hamon, I would argue only the strongest and most experienced would have it. Joseph was definitely cunning, but not that strong during his arc. But then again, whose to say? Araki, that's who.

Because that Stand was lost when he gave up his corpse part. There's nothing more to talk about with it really. That was Gyro's Stand through the corpse part, but through a technique from the Golden Spin he developed the Stand called Ball Breaker. This tid-bit is pretty relevant to the video but in chapter 42.5 is also notes hat the Spin is another method of awakening a Stand within a person. The fact that every Johnny in an alternate timeline that Valentine jumped through also had Tusk is valid proof of chapter 42.5's information as we all know that corpse parts only existed in the "root universe". Its also highly likely that different methods of gaining a Stand yields different results of said Stand like how alternate Diego had THE WORLD but the original Diego retained Scary Monsters.

Maybe that is why he shown to have such strange powers like turning into a rock and absorbing bullets, while the others have more elemental powers. the main functional difference between za warudo and star platinum is that za warudo has a longer range. also i have a theory on star platinum and za warudo, where considered noteworthy because of their speed and precision, but my theory is that they actually have neither, they have actually always been capable of time manipulation, being able to slow time, making them SEEM super fast and precise, with the complete stoping of time being the logical extreme of this abillity.

It could be that the Pillar Men couldn't unlock stands through the basic Stone Mask, since as Kars himself said, it was "incomplete" without the Red Stone of Aja, and that the basic Stone Masks lacked the necessary power to enter a Pillar Man's skull (Or something like that). DIO is an example of a fully converted human using the mask, but the Pillar Men were only partially converted because the masks couldn't fully do their job on the biologically stronger Pillar Men. All it did was enhance their physical abilities (Which most Stands can do), but can't physically manifest a Stand just yet. But when Kars completes the transformation into Ultimate Kars, it could be that his near omnipotence was actually the direct result of his Stand, whose ability was to morph his body at will and to give him immunity to sunlight. Nobody else is able to see it as a Stand, either because it isn't an outwardly physical Stand, or because Jojo / Lisa Lisa were the only ones awakened to Hamon (And Hamon being a potential Stand), Jojo not being very well trained and Lisa Lisa being unconscious. This would also give Kars the ability to see Stands as well, but Jojo only actually used Hamon a single time during his fight with U. Kars, and Kars barely even looked at him before slamming him back with his own, much more powerful Hamon. Kars was probably too drunk on his power to notice Hermit Purple before hitting Jojo back. But hey that's just a theory I'm not some Jojo loremaster

About the point made at 4:36 Well, to be fair Hamon pretty much replicates the effects the sun has on vampires and Pillar Men. You should also consider that Santana was affected by this sunlight energy in a way completely different than the other pillar men. When ACDC (or what was left of him) is hit by the sun he is disintegrated, same thing happens when hamon gets inside of Wammu in his last fight with JoJo. It is never stated that the Stone Mask altered the effects of sunlight on Pillar Men that used the stone mask and even if that was the case, Santana is the *only* pillar men to be affected differently by the sun and, surprise, surprise: he does not have a "mode". Santana's death does not prove he used the stone mask, it only reinforces the possibility that he did not and that he is significantly different than his fellow Pillar Men. So yeah, it still makes sense to assume that the other Pillar Men did have stands

And about DIO. Since, in the same chapter of SBR it is stated that a person is only allowed to have one stand at a time, it makes sense to assume that his vampiric powers might have been a stand-like ability, after all, stands don't always need to have a physical manifestation (Love Deluxe and Earth, Wind & Fire). Since the mask did not have the same purpose as the arrow it is possible that Dio was affected in a similar way to Mikitaka who was not entirely pierced by the arrow, so he was only "partly" a stand user and therefore he could not see the HPs the part 1 crew would have. So when he is pierced by the arrow he acquires his own, full stand power and The World ends up replacing the vampiric freeze and stuff. "But he was too proud of his stand and that's why he did not use the powers during the final fight with Jotaro". DIO himself says (or thinks) that he does not give a shit about winning a fight in an honorable manner, that is why he blinds Jotaro. He would never hesitate to kill Jotaro with one of his vampiric abilities if that meant guaranteeing his survival and victory

Could Santana have used some primitive Stone Mask that granted him some immunity to the sun, but not a stand? Maybe the Mask needs the "imperfect Aja" to activate Pillar Man stands, and from how I read things, it's possible that even the "imperfect Aja" was not incorporated into the masks in Mexico, but once they crossed the ocean. Remember, the mask in PB did not have a hole for a stone- and it was from Mexico.
