I've been doing resin pours in floors lately. I have 2 tips. The easiest is you can get reusable silicon cups with measurements my craft store has them in the soap section not the resin. But if you are in the situation of two paper cups ad a known volume to them first with water from a kitchen measuring cup/spoon and mark it with a sharpie on the inside before pouring them out and wiping out the water. Also: that dry brushing/paint job is making me really want cyperpunk ninja turtles. I know I have a mini print file for this somewhere...

I think if I had that problem with the cups, I'd have marked two stir sticks with a sharpie and taped them to the inside, poured up to the mark/tinted them both first if you couldn't see the clear while pouring. So glad it turned out well though, really felt for you when the first one decided to nope out and turn to sludge! It looks great!
@kcgotfre2 жыл бұрын
Omg. I'm glad you didn't end up measuring by weight because most resins (at least that I've used) are specifically by volume, not by weight! The hardener is usually heavier than the resin so by weight can sometimes cause curing issues.
@KnarbMakes2 жыл бұрын
That turned out pretty neat! Nice one Jeremy! Probably good that you didnt mix with the scale, sometimes that's the wrong way to mix things if you read the instructions on some resins (I Learned that one the hard way)

A couple tips on pouring resin, the warmer it is the more vicious (fluid) it will be so bubbles will rise to the surface. Once there you can spritz with high concentrate alcohol (ISO 91% or higher) and they'll pop much easier than trying to use a torch, especially in tights areas. To warm your resin you can let your bottles sit in a warm water bath or what I do is set my heat gun on my table pointing at my cup while I stir/mix. No bubbles! Great build, I'd say you redeemed yourself, I remember that sewer rat build, 🐀it was tragic

I use syringes to get exact amounts of resin, it allows me to basically keep track of even three to one resins without a lot of math or having to weight the resin. Just make sure to use two different syringes for each resin and marking them to keep track and clean them after each use.

During epilogue, I was expecting you to drop it! :) Two unsolicited tips: use a craft stick/tongue depressor/whatever to measure one component in the mixing cup then use that to mark (with a pencil, pen, marker) in the other mixing cup. The other tip is the popping bubbles. CO2 helps to pop the bubbles, it's not the heat itself. Just blow on the resin through a straw. Torches are more efficient, but they also burn things.
@ladykayla74172 жыл бұрын
I have some re-usable silicone measuring cups. They are easy to clean up, if you let the remains harden it just peels off. Less waste ;)

The piece looks fantastic. The rat turned out great. I've never used resin yet in any of my builds, but I'll be taking my first stab this summer. I plan on making some large industrial builds with chemical tanks in them, so I'm going to use resin with some color to represent the pools of chemicals. As fas as a light... I'd go with something sickly and green, purple, or even red.

I really dig your "slice of environment" dioramas. Also, super-glad you did the archway with the separate blocks with each one angled as they would be in a "real" archway. Just using the texture roller and cutting them out like on the underwater ruins build just bothers me, because I end up fixating on that one minor aesthetic detail. Glad to see you succeeded with the resin pour. Good little diorama all around!

an easy method of removing bubbles in resin is to softly blow on the surface through a straw. the CO2 causes the chemicals to react and makes the bubbles rise to the surface and disappear. Great build!!

Area for improvement: Lighting from down the tunnel. You did so much work in the tunnel, between texturing it, and painting it, yet there is not a focus INSIDE the tunnel. You could backlight an adventurer coming to take out the rat. Or just make it like there is a light inside the next room and you can see part of the tunnel from it.
