The problem with a lot of protesters is imo they do it more for themselves so they can feel good about themselves than for the actual goal and in the process they lose sight of whether what they do is actually practically helping. You want to help the planet? Start with things like I have started doing for the past 15 years: I drive a small economical car, I eat very little if any meat, I only throw things away that really are worn out and can't be repaired etc. In The Netherlands where I live they made a calculation estimating that if all the Dutch would dispense with eating meat for 1 day per week you reduce so much CO2 it's the equivalent of the output generated by 1 million cars. That's the sort oif thing that's going to make a difference, NOT walking around in a bird suit and making obscure theater that leaves other people scratching their heads whether you have lost your sanity or not.

"Reasons for suffrage opposition The opposition to the right for women to vote was a multifaceted phenomenon in which women themselves played a major part.[24] One reason for women's opposition was their belief that women were equal to men (although women were expected to be "equal" in different spheres from men); and that women already had significant moral authority in society, which they would lose if they entered the corrupt world of partisan politics.[25] Anti-suffragists were also appalled by the violent tactics of suffragettes, who had attacked Members of Parliament with whips and a hatchet.[26] Many female maternal reformers, who sought to protect women's defined spheres of motherhood, education, philanthropy, and civil service, felt that women were the better sex for preserving British society through social service to their communities rather than by meddling with politics.[27] Many women had little desire to participate in politics, and believed that to do so was women just imitating men, instead of using the moral authority that came from being "real women."[25] Some feared that the right to vote would lead to uninformed women in making decisions on important political matters. Since Britain was in the process of colonizing other regions around the globe, some viewed the right to vote as a threat to their imperial power as it would make the British look weak to other nations who were male oriented still.[28] Some suffragist female groups developed militant and violent tactics which tarnished the image of women as peaceful people that the anti-suffragists had been striving to preserve. Anti-suffragists used these acts as reasons to show that women were unable to handle political matters and that both genders had different strengths.[29] Women writers promoted anti-suffragism through their wide readerships by raising questions of what ideal women were to be like." from Wikipedia - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-suffragism Suffragettes were mostly women from higher classes and had therefore a safer place and more protection in society, while women from lower classes feared that they would lose the protected places they had in society. The problem with these protests is that they bother normal people with no ability to do effect change. But leave everyone who can do something about it almost completely alone. I agree with the message just not the way they protest.
@ivaneames43545 ай бұрын
These protesters don't know how far to go before stopping. Pretty much all protests cause inconvenience but protesters need to learn to stop before the public mindset goes from "Yes I was inconvenienced a bit but I understand where they're coming from, I get why they are upset and I kind of agree with them." To "I was so inconvenienced by them that now even any slight mention of their cause will remind me of that and gets me so angry that I don't want to hear a single thing about it and will ignore it whenever it is mentioned even if it is actually a good cause." These idiots are actually doing their causes great harm by making large chunks of the public angry at the entire cause and making them ignore it due to their antics. Doing stuff like throwing stuff over paintings etc just makes the public angry. They couldn't give two hoots about your cause, all you've done is make them mad. All publicity is good publicity simply is not true.

@@borano2031 Here you are again with more tripe. The average person - who the protests affect the most - can't do anything to stop large corporations or the elites from destroying the planet. If people are trying to get to work, or trying to make appointments, and some twat with their face glued to the road is stopping them then they have every right to be angry. Why don't these protesters glue themselves to the runway serving the COP summits? A small private jet travelling to COP emits two years worth of CO2 that you would emit in a day. A large private jet emits more than fifty years of CO2 compared to what you emit in a day. These elites are flying all over the planet, needlessly, yet the protesters don't target them. Instead they target people that may very well lose their job, their income, and potentially their homes. But sure, keep throwing around insults, let us know you're intellectually defunct without telling us.
@Imreallyboredsick5 ай бұрын
@borano2031 There is a difference between actual purposeful protesting that actually makes a change versus needlessly destroying paintings and other things that are public property. It is not childish to ridicule these acts of vandalism. I'm young, and my generation is inheriting these issues, and I've actually got to live in this world when those generations who've caused these issues are no longer living in it. I'm sorry, but invading public events like the Snooker World Championships, throwing orange paint everywhere, whether it be at a politician on his wedding day or on ancient monuments such as Stonehenge do absolutely nothing except needlessly cause a massive clean up bill and mass disruption to society for no legitimate reason. If you do not see the problem of righteously punishing ordinary people 'for their own good' I'm legitimately speechless.

Back in 2022, one of my best friend had climate change protestors blocked Sydney highway when he was rushing to the hospital to see his grandma for one last time and got blocked on the highway for hours and didn’t make it in time. It ruined him, he is not the same man. If you want to get your point heard, don’t do it in a way that everyone in the public will hate you for it.
