I would tell this person to look at the bright side: getting this kind of a learning experience on $15-$20 cards is a lot better than having gotten it on much more expensive cards

Thanks! Yeah, those cards were fresh and clean….stinks how much PSA can knock down surface issues :(

I agree with psa here. Anytime I see a factory line I won’t send it in unless it’s on an xfractor then maybe.

100 percent. I've graded hundreds of cards with PSA with little to zero surprises.

@@littlevictoriessportscards197 I definitely get some 5's and 6's sometimes that I have trouble diagnosing even after getting them back in hand. Learned a lot from this video though so hopefully I can catch more of the subtle surface indents and such.
@One2ManyCards21 сағат бұрын
Bummer for the submitter! If I were to guess this is probably there first grading submission and they weren’t to good at determining if there cards are gradable. I suggest maybe giving them advice to go to a local card shop that has grading services and using their pre submission look over service. I would love to see more of these videos in the future, hopefully we get to debate a little more over the grades next time haha.
@littlevictoriessportscards19721 сағат бұрын
I definitely hope to make more of these videos in the future 👍 I think they’re great learning potential vids. I think this submitter will be just fine down the road 🙌 Back in the day I could see myself making this same mistake, and building upon what I learned. Thanks for always watching! LV

@@One2ManyCards Unfortunately it wasn’t my first PSA submission. I would say probably my 12th within the last couple of years. I usually don’t do this bad. See my videos posted. But it was my first submission grading 80s cards! Unfortunately I got a little careless assuming cards from a sealed set would not have major flaws like roller dents. I should have used better lighting.,But good painful lesson learned. 🤦🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
@One2ManyCards20 сағат бұрын
@ @ ok good to know but are you grading for your PC? If you’re not why are you sending them in the first place? Besides the Griffey all the other ones are $10 PSA 9s, and it’s almost impossible to get a 10.
@crispee526519 сағат бұрын
@@One2ManyCards It was for PC but more to see how I do with older cards. See if I can determine between 8s and 9s. Since I have a lot of older cards in my collection was curious how I do. I picked up 4 sealed sets months ago and just figure I submit when they had the special going. Well like I mentioned I did not notice the roller dents which killed me. So a lesson learned that cost me $16 a card LOL! But I get why you are questioning this submission because financially didn't make sense. This was more of an experiment gone wrong.
@RawGradeFlip17 сағат бұрын
@@crispee5265 I had this similar experience a few years back when I started back into grading. I bought a handful of 1991 Topps complete sets thinking I could just pull out the top RC and get 10s lol how wrong I was. Thanks for sending to LV even though it wasn't the outcome was hoping for it was a good learning for everyone. Good luck with upcoming orders!

80's & 90's Junk wax paper is notorious for the roller lines. Thats why in a 10 they sell for big bucks. I tend to stay away from from grading anything 84-2001 thats paper! As much as I wanted ScamSA to be wrong, they tend to be very very very hard on junk wax & the grades were accurate...I tell customers who send me cards to pre-grade, that unless you want junk wax slabbed for your PC, your going to waste your money. This was a great video to show newbies one of the major flaws thats overlooked in paper cards! Great video as always!!!
@littlevictoriessportscards19721 сағат бұрын
I’m also trending towards submitting less and less junk wax…sad though, cuz I love that stuff. Thanks for appreciating this vid!

For around $10 you can buy an inexpensive jeweler's loupe. It's a game changer when grading cards. Before I sent in my first PSA order I had around 30 cards that looked like they could possible get a 10 to my naked eyes. After very carefully looking them over with the loupe I identified 6 out of the 30 that didn't appear to have any flaws, the rest all had surface issues I couldn't see initially. Out of those first 5 I got 5 10s and a 9.
@littlevictoriessportscards19717 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I do recommend jeweler loupes…especially for beginner submitters. I have a couple, but still prefer to use my naked eye 🤪

Great video! I'm still learning the grading part and it just take time (and money) to get that experience. It's an expensive lesson!
@littlevictoriessportscards19719 сағат бұрын
Thanks! Yeah…it does take time and money. The best lessons learned are from the mistakes we make ourselves. But hopefully these types of vids can save someone from making that mistake and losing some money 🤙

Good analysis. Geoff Wilson should invite you to his HQ for a card analysis. LOL. One of the cheapest investments I made was a lamp & magnification combo tool which looks like a desktop lamp. The added light and magnification helps out my aging eyes. It's a lot easier to find surface flaws.

No thanks, lol 😂 A lamp & magnification combo tool is a great tip! Nice lighting makes all the difference

Indents are a death sentence to cards. I’ve been going consistently for about 2 years now, and surface seems to be the most scrutinized. I’ve had indents just like this, all 6s as well
@littlevictoriessportscards19715 сағат бұрын
Especially with PSA. You’re exactly right. I would argue that the surface is just as important as the corners 👌

This is why I don’t care about grades very much for my collection. These cards that get hammered for weird surface stuff present great and sell for a tiny fraction of what “mint” copies go for. Growing up no one would’ve noticed or cared about those roller indents. I bet you can find PSA 10s of these cards with same exact indents in older slabs
@littlevictoriessportscards1978 сағат бұрын
Totally understandable 👍 They did present very well, and very clean. If you love a card, than you love a card, grade not important. They definitely do grade tougher these days especially on junk wax era cards. Thanks for watching! LV

Ahhh, shoot... That stinks, I hate to see it for the submitter. Good lesson, though. If it's their first submission, I hope they don't quit! I have had quite a few cards just like this from 1990-91 Pro Set HK out of the pack and also had a 1990 Fleer Canadian Griffey Jr. with similar damage. Very hard to see!
@littlevictoriessportscards19710 сағат бұрын
Yeah, I feel for the submitter too. It feels like a mistake I would have made back in the day. But don’t worry he doesn’t seem like the type to quit. Nice guy who took the steps to learn…he will be just fine 🙌

Here is the skinny with PSA or other grading companies. One it's a human element with lord knows how many employees, so an exact card in he exact condition will get a different grade, especially so if an employee is having a bad day, the WILL NOT get a 10. Two PSA is notorious for keeping pop counts down. Why, cause if there are say 100 Gem Mint 1980 Henderson's then the value will not be as much. And three I'd be and give odds that really big name prominent collectors are gonna get better grades than some Joe Blow.
@littlevictoriessportscards197Сағат бұрын
Human element definitely plays a factor. I can’t imagine grading cards 9-5:00 everyday…makes you wonder how much work fatigue plays a part. Thanks for watching! LV

I thought for sure 10’s, all came back 7’s. Turns out they were all off center…taught me to research before submitting. We all learn 👍
