This is my honest take: Considering we saw no water bending training from Aang or even both Aang and Katara training together on the journey in a season called BOOK 1 WATER!!!! needs to be addressed and also just randomly making Katara a Waterbending Master who learns zero healing water bending and had no Master but we got Zuko still saying "You got yourself a waterbending master peasant" which made zero sense in the show needs to be addressed. Also how are they going to handle Aang who has not learned water bending in SEASON 2 which is called BOOK 2 EARTH!!! like come on I don't think the writers, director or anyone working on this show have a scooby what they're doing or is Katara Aangs water bending Master now if so why??? like I think they want Katara to be a Mary Sue. The shows pacing and the concept of time needs to be addressed i.e the pacing felt rushed with no time for character development or growing Team Avatars friendship and the fact June who was hired to capture Aang went from the Earth Kingdom to Rokus Island makes zero sense and only confuses the concept of distance and time in the worldbuilding of the show. They didn't need to change the sexism or other problems as now the characters don't have flaws to grow and learn from i.e Sokka on Kiyoshi Island, the writers imo made Suki to be a pathetic little girl trying to get the boy she likes attention like jesus you turned a bad ass character into an annoying girl and they should fix that. Jesus H Christ I could go on but I won't I could ramble more actually talking into a video about all the flaws, unneccessary changes and the good but I won't. But lastly I have to say it, the actors ain't the problem I think they're being wasted by bad Producers, Writers and Directors who don't have a scooby. oh and make the Water look like water not one person was wet after being water bended by Katara etc

I personally couldn't watch past the middle of the second episode. A lot of the iconic scenes were just removed and the world didn't feel nearly as special as the original, not to mention that the main characters felt smooth and without flaw, which left no room for growth and took away the human aspect. Also Aang just flying made me feel like they didn't understand bending.

Exactly!! Like they focused more on the side characters and gking to side quests, they thought thats what made it special? They needed to show he went to the village with the foreats spirit that episode was important! Why? Uhh, spirit? Angry spirit?! Ya thats it. The secret tunnel episode that was an important one! Because they get stuck and need help from a giant animal to get out! They completely missed the real reasons and lessons a episode was great and important. But damn the effects are good.

I didn't watch it, so I can't really tell my opinion.. BUT I saw some clips, so I will write my thoughts. I totally agree on costumes and scenography felling 'staged' and 'fake'. For me, nations colour and clothes work so good in animation/cartoon and do not work in live action. Also, sorry, but for me CGI Appa and Momo are not 'alive', I can't see them as a characters, just some nice digital effects :/ Overall, I am glad that they tried (not like the film we don't talk about), but still, why make this show? It feels very... unnecessary. PS: That's why I'm very happy and excited about your game Elca, cause that - THAT - is what fans clearly see as needed to be made :)

I agree with all of your points at the end, I think it's a great effort and visually it's great (except for the spirit world), I think there are some great performances, and others are not as good, so I hope they can get better at it. I thought Aang, Iroh and specially Suko, Sokka, Suki, Osai, Zhao and some others were really really good, but I did feel like Aang's actor runs rather clumsily in several scenes which took me a bit from it. Some dialogue and some director choices are wierd, but at the same time I think those choices work in a stand alone thing, not compared to the original. By no means it's as bad as some people are commenting on the internet, but it's not perfect either. I would give it a solid 8, maybe 8.5 as a stand alone, but as an adaptation from the source material, maybe a 7.5 with some parts having a 8/9. I believe that season two, if the show doesn't recieve too much backlash, could be much better, a good baseline has been set and they can improve on it. Also, I just don't get why Aang didn't even start learing a bit of water bending, not with Katara and not even in the North Water Tribe. I also have a mix feeling about Aang not knowing on his own about the other avatars and having to rely on Suko's notebook for information, but it also kind of makes sense that he wouldn't really know about them since schooling wasn't his strong suit.

Season 1 of the original has so much set up for season 2… and thats all out of the window already because season 1 of the live action is a cluster fuck with mixed things from season 1-2-and a tiny bit of 3. And ofcourse they’re already working on season 2. These things are often only told about renewal for an extra season if concrete commercials are needed to keep the hype up. These are multi million dollar shows, obviously they’re already working on season 2. How else do you think they’re suppost to finnish a season within 1-2 years. I’m 99% sure they already have stuf filmed for season 2 and since they changed the script so much they probably already have ideas and written a lot for season 2 which they wont completely change because that would cost way to much time and money.

I think the seasons could benefit from 1-2 (possibly 3) more episodes to fully flesh everything out. Everything seems forced / rushed / too condensed. It isn't bad by any means in my opinion though. Season 2 could definitely come back and learn from Season 1s shortcomings.

The writing was the bigges flaw. Bending is treaed like magic. Air is treaged like the force Fire is generic. At least thr actor who played Zuko was really invested. It annoys the F out of me that Katara starts with talking about culture/tradition to her brother NEVER trains her bending Can go toe to toe with Master Paku. They cut out the episode where Air Master avatar Aang is mastering water bending easly which leads to Katara's jealousy. Sokka's actor was good considering they remove all his humour.

Hey just an idea for the game. I think you should consider structure your game like sonic adventure 2. In this game you can switch between 2 campaigns, sonic’s (which is named hero) and shadow’s (which is named villain). In your game you can play angs campaign and zukos campaign. The reason I think it would work well is because you can include events in zukos campaign which are crucial to his character development but cannot be seen naturally from angs point of view. For example, the fight against his father. It’s just an idea and I know it’s A LOT of work.

The show is great! I am glad that it isnt an exact clone of the original. There were a few changes that I didnt like, but they had to convert 20 episodes into 8 live action episodes. So I can forgive their plot changes. The fight scenes are really well done and the live action deaths help to remind you of the on-going war. The original just felt like a bunch of kids having an adventure. even when fighting there were hardly any real consequences. The original is perfect for what it is, but I have always wanted to see the grit and grime of live action bending. If you guys like the live action, you may also like the books about Kyoshi, written by the original creators. In those two books, benders really get down if you know what I mean

Aang not bending water on fire makes sense though, because appartently there is going to be a time jump and Aang can be learning water bending off-screen. In my opinion Book 1 kind of rushed him mastering water. I liked that they focussed on him learning about the Avatar state, which helped him save the Northern water tribe. And let´s be fair: The original Book 1 had some issues and a lot of fans didn´t start loving Avatar until Book 2. So, it´s not easy to adapt and in my opinion the writing was quite alright. I didn´t like Kataras character, as they made her shy and self-conscious, also the acting of some of those child-performers was quite bad in some scenes, especially Aang, when he had to be serious.

Short answer, no. They skipped so much that’s important to the story which is essence of ATLA. I liked the acting pretty much and the CGi was alright but it don’t see myself watching it again. It just made me wanna watch that original show every time I watched each episode of the adaptation. Oh and yeah Aang shouldn’t have been flying or floating in the beginning of the series. They cut out a lot of the funny parts and characters relationships. By the time episode 3 came I could already see the downfall of the shows storytelling. Unfortunately I wasn’t a fan of Azula’s character because Azula is agile and cunning but this version was stiff and was seeking approval of her father which is more of Zuko’s role in the original. I knew 8 episodes was going to be too short and I was correct by the end. Boomi was disappointing seriously. He wasn’t friendly or laughable at all. Instead Boomi was angry and bitter and I think they were trying to make his character more like actual people in real life. The Cave Of Two Lovers was WAY off. They didn’t show enough of Appa and Momo. Zuko had the best acting in the show. I didn’t like Zhao’s acting

Almost all the music is either virtually carbon-copied from the show or is just generic hollywood orchestra that is very western-feeling and completely takes away from the east-asian vibes the show is supposed to ooze with.

IMHO, Elizabeth Yu was a huge miscast for Azula. Azula character is supposed to be very intimidating not just how she speaks, fights, but also looks. In the cartoon show, Azula's looks gives you the feeling that this is not someone you should mess with. In the live action show, I just want to buy her some flowers and cake. The cute puppy dog eyes just ruin the evilness.

Sokka, Zuko, the Fire Lord, Sozin, Suki, Kyoshi, and the earth King were perfectly cast imo. (I only watched up to Omashu so far. I'm pretty disappointed in many of the other characters tbh. Katara does not feel like Katara at all, although that's mainly due to the writing, not the actress. I think Azulas voice is so strong and iconic in the original, so this Azula feels way too soft for me. Iroh is another big disappointment. I agree that Omashu was very rough. It wasn't an enjoyable episode at all. So much was wrong with it. They could've just left the freedom fighters out, because we didn't get to know them, and Katara and Jet didn't have enough time together. Her freezing him is supposed to be impactful because of the chemistry they had. But it's so meaningless in the new show. Also their camp looks like a children's playground, it seemed like a joke.... I hope it gets better later??

That being said there are definitely good changes in the live action. At the end of the day I'm just glad people are enjoying it. Book 2 feels the most cohesive, followed by Book 3. Meanwhile Book 1 is more like an adventure of the week a lot of the time. For me the real problem with the show is that I kind of don't get for which target group the show is even made. It's not for kids, it's a bit to much for people that didn't know anything of the universe and when you didn't already like the charakters because of the cartoon they fall out a bit flat, and people that watches the cartoon already has a better adaption of the story.

I liked that his ship was the Division he saved but then it creates the problem of size. Zuko had minimal forces given to him for his exile but a Division should be far larger that one small ship. Military divisions are around 10,000 troops, Zuko has a Platoon or two at most so 30-60 men. So few troops would never have worked as a diversion. I'd like them to say what happened to the rest of the 41st Division.

In my opinion it was not good. The exposition is terrible. They talk down on their audience like we're stupid, so they just have their characters announce their feelings instead of trusting that we can interpret ourselves alongside the characters. The characters feel empty and lifeless. No one is allowed to have flaws so they don't get any character growth or development whatsoever. The acting is bad and the script and writing sucks. And that's only surface level of the problems wth this show. This show feels mindless compared to fhe original, judt my opinion.

The middle episodes were the weakest for me personally, so 3, 4, and 5. Too many storylines crammed together and not interwoven well. And I agree with you that Lu Ten’s funeral didn’t elicit any emotional response from me. It was total fan service. If we’re supposed to pretend the original show doesn’t exist in order to judge this live action one fairly, then that means also divorcing yourself as best as you can from the emotions the original also made you feel. So at this point, we’re 4 episodes in and what do we know about Iroh so far? He’s clearly a supportive uncle who was once a great general, he loves tea, food, and Pai Sho, and now he doesn’t necessarily agree with the devastation the war is causing the rest of the world. So when they show us his son died, it doesn’t have the same impact it did originally. We had to build up to that moment. We didn’t even know he had a son until the finale at the Northern Water Tribe. And it’s only toward the end of book 2 that we have The Tale of Iroh. So we spent almost 2 entire seasons getting to know this man, and that’s why his breakdown hits us so hard. The one in the live action doesn’t even begin to compare. It’s nice, sure, but I could actively feel how the writing is trying to make me feel something. It needed to be conveyed more naturally, in my opinion. I also can’t stand the new Bumi. You’re totally right that his personality was switched out for the old fisherman’s from The Storm. Bumi’s anger makes no sense when he’s reprimanding Aang for goofing off, which he’s not doing in this version of the show. And they want me to believe that this bitter old man who’s been jaded by a century of war just all of a sudden gets cured of his anger by……… a bison whistle carving and some hollow words about hope, faith, and friendship from Aang? No, it’s not believable for a second. His anger went away simply because the story needed it to in order to move on to the next plot point. So many changes they made had unintended ripple effects that the creative team couldn’t keep up with. So it all became so messy and muddled. I do wanna see what they can do with a season 2, but I have no idea how they can course correct the narrative…… or they might not even want to. It seems like they think what they made is awesome. It’s fine. I wish it was way better.

I like to call season 1 "an imperfect love letter" because you can see that the heart is there, but there are several missteps. hopefully book 2 gets better pacing, more episodes, and sticking closer the source material

Last thing "humor moments from sokka" is the biggest overstatement of the year. Sokka from the original can still make me laugh to this day, live action sokka was a bore. Idk if its the actor or the writers but either way sokka sucks. And they removed basically his entire character arc like they knew he was gonna suck

I dont wanna comment on every single thing in this video but the gliding isnt that crazy. Respectfully i know youve been making the game and pouring over the cartoon so idk why you think it is tbh but in the kyoshi episode you see aang shoot straight into the air very similarly and also during the air temple episode you see aang gliding and jumping down the mountain when hes chasing momo, its been a minute since ive seen the original and even i remember that what gives? 😂

I have to say i dont agree with your take on how they open with sozin the way they did. While yes hes a villain and therefore does villainous things, i really felt the burning the man alive thing was WAY over the top and way too "in your face." Because of it personally i immediately lowered my standards in an "oh so theyre not even gonna try to be faithful to the original" kinda way. Not to say that its inherently wrong or bad but it definitely is not in line with the way the original was so lighthearted and SUBTLE. The netflix version apparently thinks that we were never able to comprehend the atrocities that may have happened during the 100 year war and so it feels the need to demonstrate, which kind of completely annihilates the whole light hearted tone from the original which made it as good as it is

It's mid, but I mean that with kind regards. Much, much better than [There is no such movie in Ba Sing Se], but there were characters that I didn't feel came to life properly. I admittedly wasn't a fan of Sokka. Excusing the whole "less sexism" spiel, he really didn't feel like the goofy warrior wannabe big brother that I remember him as (which I should watch the OG once more, it's been a few years.) Aang feels alright, feels pretty similar to the kid I remember. I don't really know where to place Katara, it feels like... a warped mirror, of sorts. It's right there, I can feel it, but it doesn't feel _right._ Zuko's pretty good, but Iroh... hmm, he's _alright,_ but he's not my Iroh. Felt too preachy and lecturing instead of wise and just calmly adding his own "old man" tidbits imo, just the feeling is wrong but otherwise not bad. Maybe I'm just a stickler for the classic, but overall it's about a 5 or 6/10. Honestly, that's really not bad. For Live Action, other than a 1 to 1 interpretation, there's not too much you can do for fans other than making it look good and making it right story-wise and suffers from the classics of modern storytelling: they tell, don't show. Otherwise, like you said, you can watch it.
