Did this Biblical MONSTER actually exist? The truth behind God's beloved Leviathan (Animation)

You won’t believe that this creature actually exists on our planet. Out of all the creatures made by God, this one stand above them all. Its name is Leviathan, an enormous, armoured and destructive sea monster whose identity and existence is surrounded in mystery. Some say Leviathan is too horrifying to ever exist, it must have been a metaphoric concept, but I believe there is biblical evidence pointing towards the existence of such a beast.

Thank you for this! You have an excellent take-away from Leviathan at the end there in what it means; Even something so mighty and terrible knows it's Lord God to whom it is subservient. Who are we to challenge him? I would note on the comparison of the Revelations beast, Revelations uses similar language as the prophecy in Daniel in which Nations are alluded to as beasts. The "beast from the sea" is a gentile nation of incredible power. Indeed, the Antichrist makes a deal with it, people follow it and wonder "Who can defeat it?". This comes from the common metaphor of the Sea being chaos or lack of form with the Land being created by God with order and form. So if it comes from the Sea, it's not from the people of Israel. In David's Metaphor, there are multiple beasts which come from the sea that would later be the beasts representing the coming nations of Persia, Greece and Rome. With another yet to come, interestingly enough from the LAND, a beast with Sheep-like horns that speaks like a Dragon. 🤔 At any rate, Leviathan is being spoken of literally by God, while David and Revelations are prophetic visions with metaphorical and literal meanings mixed in.

I read a book on this subject years ago that floated the theory that Leviathan may have been an ancient crocodile the size of a schoolbus. Naturally, Egyptians were not likely to hunt such a creature, much less successfully. Additionally, they found in the nose of the skull a small chamber shaped like a bowl. The author hypothesized that it may have been a mixing chamber for chemicals that create fire when combined. A system similar to the bombardier beetle on a frightening scale. This makes logical sense to me as Job is far more likely to have seen a colossal crocodile in the great rivers than a tremendous sea serpent in the depths of the ocean.

I tend toward the metaphor that the beast of the sea could speak of something that arises out of the sea (of nations), and not the actual waters, though that is not off the table, and also, despite that, leviathan definitely was and possibly yet is a creature among the waves. It literally spoken of in the Bible and nature of it being described in scripture. Likely, when mentioned in Job, this was a creature Job would have been familiar with, either from personal sight of one, or as displayed in artwork of some kind. I don't think it's any coincidence those seafaring maps with the cute little drawings out in the open areas that say "Here be dragons". It's possible those portions of maps were general areas leviathans were known to live or migrate through. Similarly, look at tales of Loch Ness and other like beings; it is possible these are yet roaming around, but very cunning and make a point to stay away from places people are or vessels that roam across the waters. If you're ever out swimming or boating and run into one, remember that God can calm him for you, so that you don't get got. >>:=p

In my view, Leviathan doesn't have anything to do with the devil. In medieval age, some theologists included Leviathan, as one of the 7 princes of hell, making it some kind of demon, however that Bible doesn't support this. Leviathan is not a demon, it is a creature, an animal, that is vicious and violent not because some rational evilness, but because of instincts. I mean, it is not acting evil in a councious way, like satan does, but rather acts like an animal. There needs to be some animal that existed that is the Leviathan, because all ancient civilisation have a dragon in their mythology. Greeks have Hydra, the multi-headed giant swamp serpent, where I live there is a popular tale about a prince who defeats a giant serpent with 7 heads. In China we have the well known dragon.

Leviathan is said to have multiple heads and breaths fire. Ancient chaos dragons were common in Ancient Near Eastern mythology. It is not unthinkable that God could take this preexisting folklore and use it as a polemic against the gods of the nations who were said to have been the one to slay the sea dragon. I don't see why we Bible believing Christians should be committed to Leviathan's reality anymore than the solid firmament.
@michellealagbe8910
@michellealagbe8910 5 ай бұрын
What are you even on about?
@evanminton8315
@evanminton8315 5 ай бұрын
@@michellealagbe8910 Exactly what I said. In ANE creation myths, it was not untypical for a god to slay a sea dragon before getting to the work of creation. For example, Marduk killing Tiamat in the Enuma Ellish. It's so common that Old Testament scholars and Ancient Near Eastern scholars coined a name for this; Chaoscomf. In Genesis 1, we don't have a chapscomf, but I do believe Leviathan is alluded to in Genesis 1:2 as the Spirit of God hovers over the surface of the waters of the primeval Earth. I think that this is part of all literary strategy on the part of the author, in order to display the supremacy of Yahweh over that of the gods of Israel's neighbors. Basically implying "Yahweh is so strong, he didn't even need to kill the sea dragon like your gods did. When Yahweh showed up, Leviathan was too scared to even show his face." Nevertheless, later passages in scripture (like Psalm 104) do mention Yahweh as the slayer of this mighty sea dragon. The reference to Leviathan's multiple heads can be found in Psalm 74:14 and the fire breathing is in Job 41:19. I think that what we have depicted here in the biblical text, is something more to a hydra than any creature that actually lived. I am a Christian with a high view of scripture (I affirm the Chicago Statement on inerrancy), but I think if such sea monsters actually existed, we would have found the bones of at least one or two of them. I think God was using well-known folklore as a teaching point. This is facet of a theory of inspiration I hold to known as "divine accommodation" which isn't all that controversial when applied to other things. Biblical scholars John Walton, Michael Heiser, and Ben Stanhope have spoken of these things in their books such as "The Lost World Of Genesis One", "(Mis)Reading Genesis: How The Creation Museum Misunderstands The Ancient Near Eastern Context Of The Bible", and "The Unseen Realm: Recovering The Supernatural Worldview of The Bible".

Beware of ANYONE that starts a sentence with "I believe"... belief is part of THEIR TRUTH and... as for truth itself? Remember "TRUTH is based on individual BELIEF and is therefore SUBJECTIVE". FACT, on the other hand, is "based upon the tangibility of empirical evidence and is therefore ABSOLUTE"! Has ANYONE considered that NONE OF THIS has ANY BASIS IN "FACT"? What has happened to the God-given quality of "discernment"? Is there ANY rational thinking left in this world?

Leviathan is not the Beast of the Sea. Beasts in prophetic books are human kingdoms gone rogue and rebelling against God.

Leviathan is a demonic creature of chaos while behemoth is a demonic creature of extreme order or tyranny. In no way are either "beloved" by God. They are like mad dogs which only God has command over to do his will.

So God controls the leviathan and is the closest entity other than Jesus to God I would say I'd like to Fight the leviathan for this reason just what's the point Jesus is going to return preferably in peace.

Book of Job is full of metaphors. The beast from the sea represents ISIS, which was defeated after 3 and a half years, as it was written. The dragon represents the culture of Babylon, which became freemasonry, one of the dragon's head was wonded and healed, represents Germany. The creature came from the sea means ISIS members were gathered from other countries.

The problem with symbolism that isn't explained explicitly as symbols, I you can use it to say anything you want. Don't get me wrong, the scriptures have many symbolic, and metaphorical statements, and passages, but pretty much all of them are explicitly stated as such. Like how Daniel's vision of the statue is stated in represent kingdoms in the very passages thar describe the visions, and how I the book of rebekation there's the dragon with 10 horns, or something like that, and in that very book I I explicite that the ten horns represent 10 kings. If a Bible passage does not make its symbolism explicit like that, do not try to apply symbolism to it.

The Leviathan isn't a literal animal or prehistoric beast of the sea. It is a reference to a mythical Samarian sea god. Nothing more. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eX7JYoKBrblmb5Isi=mWIewWdGlNsEhr3k

When Jesus (pbuh) spoke to the Roman soldiers who were posessed and they responded "we are legion, for we are many." That's was Leviathan.

@@allaware1971that doesn’t sound correct at all given the context of Gods discussion and description of it. Legion was a far separate entity(ies), as those were various demons from my understanding. Leviathan was a surprisingly playful and massive sea creature put into creation by God himself. It’s an animal. Not a demon.

That was not Roman soldiers that was a possessed man. And Legion just means “many demons” Then maybe your book differs from the Bible since Christians Believe Jesus was in fact crucified and rose from the dead.

@@JyriOrquiza-rl7xq Well I remember seeing some small lizard on a beach go towards the water and than later on there was Godzilla, a giant. I think there might have been a chemical that the small lizard took, but I don't remember if so. All I remember was the sandy beach thing and I know it was from a Godzilla movie. Maybe a old Godzilla movie might have that scene I remembered?

The answer is no. No, it didn't exist. The sheer mass of such a gigantic creature would ensure that it would be crushed under its own weight.
