Relax, everybody. The G-forces upon landing will have been recorded in the maintenance log, and if certain parameters have been exceeded then the aircraft will be inspected - but I've experienced heavier landings than that, the A380 is a strong beast, and I've little doubt it'll be OK.
@loki7441Күн бұрын
The 330,s had issues with heavy landings. An impact marker was put on the main legs. If marked the undercarrage was supposed to be removed and overhauld and mounting points checked.
@hughblack683122 сағат бұрын
The aircraft has ACMS (Aircraft Condition Monitoring System) which is linked to all aircraft systems and flight recorder. Parameters are preset to generate warnings if certain values are exceeded, inflight turbulence and heavy landings among them. If a heavy landing occurred the report will be printed automatically and their maintenance control alerted, probably before the pilots have even exited the runway. The appropriate maintenance inspections will then be carried out depending upon the level of exceedance as more checks are required the heavier the recorded landing was. Seen a lot worse, remember working on a B757 that had bent the fuselage aft of the wings, collapsed the left oleo and bent the fuse pins.

I watched the live TV news copter footage of the first A380 landing at LAX so many years ago. The front wheels got into an oscillation that caused the fuselage to twist back and forth really hard. @@Chunky246 To be clear, the primary reason that Ryanair land firm is because thats what Boeing say you should do with a 737 in the manual, because they have a propensity to float. Of course, Ryanair would like to avoid go-around risk due to the timing risk, and landing firmly - as per the manual - will assist with that. But your other point that landing firmly (or 'positively') in poor weather is a good idea is absolutely correct. As well as the point that there is nothing wrong - other than it being a little robust - with the landing in the video...

I've experienced the same hard landings at Birmingham aboard Emirates A380, yet landing at Heathrow have been smooth as silk. I wonder if the undulations in the runway though far apart give the pilots a false sense of height. Mind you the Business lounge at Birmingham is 10 times better than Heathrow, so which would sway my choice?????
@andreasgasser5823Күн бұрын
The runway at Birmingham is only 8527 feet (2566 Meter) long, that means very short. Heathrow has very long "normal length" runways. So everybody has to put down the aircraft at the very beginning of the Birmingham runway, else the landing has to be aborted. So this is why the pilot here had to push the A380 a little bit down before touch down. At Heathrow, he could have landed softly much further down.

My word! that was a hard landing of the king of the sky. Ican't understand why the pilot did what he did whilst landing. The weather was rather good over all to achieve a nice smooth landing. The plane must have encured some sort of damage from that hard landing. I believe an A380 has to be 239 tons on landing weight or less, but that's still rather heavy for a hard landing and damage of some sort has accured. Never seen the wings on this plane flex like that ever. The onboard footage says it all. The repair maybe costly i think. Tut tut.

That was nasty. Pilot error. You do not pull back on the stick and drive the wheels into the tarmac. The wing flex said it all and the crash in the cabin. If that was an A340, it would need a new set of main gear.
@johndean49983 күн бұрын
Incorrect - in high wind speed conditions like that pilots are recommended to land firmly to avoid drifting off the centreline. The landing gears are the strongest components on the aircraft, and the wings are supposed to flex like that. What you're hearing is the plastic fittings in the cabin vibrating with the shock, it seems dramatically louder because the A380 cabin is so quiet.
