Very weird issue, glad you were able to sort it out. Nobody wants to tear back into a freshly rebuilt motor! LOL

There is a timing alignment with the kickstarter gear. The manual for my 07 details that you have to live up the dots on the kick starter gear. I haven’t watched the whole video but I thought I’d mention.
@nwmotogarage Жыл бұрын
Yes there is in the 08’s as well and it is set correctly, it’s mainly for the correct amount of spring tension. Not a bad suggestion!! Thanks!
@DylanDubs-xe3ej4 ай бұрын
The kick starter gear has marks on it that need to be aligned properly when installing. It essentially is timed. But if u dont line them up occasionally they will bind up!

You put the idler gear between the kickstarter gear and the clutch basket gear in backwards. I did the same thing on my 450. Putting it in backwards will allow it to rub on the RH center case. And then when you torque your clutch basket down it will lock the engine up completely

Thank you for your experience!

Your clutch basket is hammered. The clutch plate ears have cut grooves , which can cause them to no slide freely.

Oof! It's not a project if something like this doesn't happen lol stoked to see you finish this and rip it!
@nwmotogarage Жыл бұрын
You know, you’re not wrong!! But I thought i saw the last of it with the case half!! And as for ripping it… let me start by prefacing, I know how to operate a Dirtbike, but by no means know how to “Ride” a Dirtbike. I grew up on a YFZ and can absolutely tear it up on 4 wheels. Sure I switched back a forth a couple of times to a Dirtbike but never took it to the next level. So this brings me to now. I got bored knowing just about everything there is to know about sport quads, I needed an adventure. It’s honestly exhilarating just how uncomfortable I am on two wheels. It’s a weird combo, because I have zero fear so it “looks” like I know what I’m doing, but I’m just trying to copy what I see Tomac and Webb do on Saturdays.

When I first heard it I thought it was either the kickstarter or the valve train. I also had an idea that the ring gap may be off. But I can’t wait to see this bike finished

I had a 03 yz125 that out of no where, locked up. There is a bushing on the started that wears out. It causes the starter get to actually make contact with the clutch basket.

i had a very similar locking up issue with my 04 crf450r it ended up being due to the kid i bought off that rebuilt it not putting locktite on the crank bearing retainer causing it to catch on the crank occasionally locking it up until it got so bad it fully locked up and costed me 2k for a full re assembly from a processional
@dec92210 ай бұрын
Am I not right in thinking that heating up the wheel hubs to seat the bearings in could be causing heat to transfer into the bearings and potentially damage them?

Did you ever figure out what happened with it locking up? I was out riding my 2007 CRF150RB today and this exact thing happened, I actually crashed. Now I'm wondering if it locked and I crashed or if I crashed then it locked. But anyway, brought it home, went through the same thought process you did, valvetrain is all good, I just clearanced these valves last week. Then took the clutch cover off and low and behold, I remove the clutch basket and the motor frees up. Then I remembered this video. I went looking at the components to me kickstarter and couldn't find anything wrong with it. SMH. I'm at a loss, I put it back together, it kicked over until it started then locked up again. May try one more time to take it all apart and meticulously clean everything.
@nwmotogarage Жыл бұрын
I haven’t purchased the components yet, but everything else behind that right side case cover looks good, so I’m thinking it must be a kick starter. I’ll be sure to report back and make a new video once I find the real solution!
@SkillCollectors Жыл бұрын
@@nwmotogarage Has it gotten stuck again since you've cleaned it and gotten it running?
@nwmotogarage Жыл бұрын
@@SkillCollectors yes, it does it every once in a while. I found that if I leave the bike I gear, rock it forward and back to slightly rotate the engine it frees up so I can kick it again
@SkillCollectors Жыл бұрын
@@nwmotogarage So I ended up having to split my case because the plastic oil pump gear came apart and the tiny steel rod made it's way into the crank case when I crashed and the bike was on it's side, at least that's what I'm thinking (I originally had to repair a different catastrophic failure with the cylinder head when I first got the bike so I think metal made its way into the oil pump gears and seized it). But it must have been a coincidence when I messed around with the clutch and kickstarter gears that it freed up. Now it's all back together and smooth as ever. Just thought I'd share my solution for anyone reading the comments.
