I wonder if those who started that tradition also started a small business selling small vials of 'holy water' from Jesus' baptism site and t-shirts?

I have to admit, when I see a person wearing freshly laundered and perfectly turned out clothes for what should be a rather dirty job or pastime (like archeology, hunting, construction, and so on) I tend to trust that person less. It seems like their outfit is more of a set piece than something they work or live in.

I am confused, surprised and disappointed to see Dan Snow in this context. He is an excellent scholar and broadcaster and a well known atheist. He is a patron of Humanists UK and an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society. I can only hope that this clip required a broader context or that he was simply reading a script for money. Such a shame.

Since the Israeli occupation of Palestine, the freshwater Ecosystems have become extremely damaged. The Jordan river is now so polluted it's considered toxic waste. The Sea of Galilee has lost 3 species of fish to extinction, including the long jaw tristramella or Sacred tilapia. During the time of Jesus it was the predominant food fish owing to it's large size, it's probably the food fish mentioned in the new testament ( loaves and fishes, Peter's haul in John 21:11) To keep tourists happy, the Israeli government stocks the lake with farmed tilapia ( renamed St Peter's fish for the restaurants) Unfortunately this farmed species is very invasive and is wiping out the smaller fish species endemic to Galilee.😢

So there are people who believe that the big cathedral in Cologne has the bones of the 3 Wise Men. Presumably, there are bones there, and the bible does talk about the visitors from the East, who are traditionally considered the 3 Wise Men. Therefore, the bible tradition, and archeology all establish that the bones in the church in Cologne are the bones of the 3 Wise Men. Is that how it works? PS The church in Cologne is absolutely magnificent!
@RustyWalker24 минут бұрын
I think Dan's mentioned that "3" is a supposition because there are 3 types of gift, although there's nothing to prevent them bringing a bit of each and any number of Magi.

I used to be a subscriber to the youtube channel and streaming service, used to be. If I remember correctly the youtube channels recycled their videos with different clickbaty names, and the videos on the streaming service seemed to be more about the presenters than about history. Looks like unsubscribing from both was the right call.

@@austinlc99 they are, and I don't think this piece discounts all of their work at all. It actually would be great to get Snow's thoughts on this - he presents more as a general history scholar, whereas DMcC's points represent a more specialized, deeper dig into this factoid.

Is there any data that suggests that the story ever was real, because you see this in historical fiction a lot? In the Sharpe series, Sharpe met Wellington and Napoleon, but Sharpe is fictional. Bill and Ted met all sorts of historical figures for their project. Well that one's true obviously. Somebody caught it on camera.
