So far an this trip we have stayed at 3 amazing hotels. However we were told wait untl you see the hotel today. Well it turns out the hotel is nothing like we were told it would be.

When traveling I often stay in 3* places. Clean and comfy is all we need. We'd rather have the extra $$. But if we book 5* we EXPECT 5*. My hubby used to say "I don't mind paying for what I want but I'd better get what I pay for"

Those sheets would have me leaving the hotel and finding another one to stay in! That was atrocious. As for the "nice" manager... she should be more on top of that sort of thing. Clean sheets are not just for the highest end hotels.

How do they expect the hosted agents to recommend their hotel if they won't show off the fine hotels? At least offer to take the agents group on a guided tour of the expected hotel so they can make recommendation.

Don, your host is a professional travel agency specializing in that part of the world, promoting their services to their colleagues (you guys) in hopes of increasing their business by referrals. It’s confusing why the resort would back out at the last minute (that means the host doesn’t have a favorable relationship with them) and secondly, why didn’t they already have second choice properties that they are familiar with. It doesn’t make your hosts, promoting themselves, look good, capable or knowledgeable. Personally, I wouldn’t want to book a wedding with them if they are so unfamiliar with the properties they contract with. That hotel looks dreadful and I wouldn’t trust the safety of their food. The drainage ditch looks like a mosquito 5 star resort.

1+star maybe😢. When we travel it has to be a 4+ stars, I want to be able to lay my head down at night and worry about anything crawling over me. I certainly wouldn’t e able to do that there after seeing those sheets 😮.

You don’t need 4+ stars to find a clean and sometimes quite charming hotel. I prefer a top hotel when I’m staying in the states, but if I’m in Costa Rica visiting the rain forest I’ll take a local place and get to know the people. And if I’m in Europe I’ll take a pensione. You lose so much when you only stay at luxury resorts. You meet people like yourself, and go on the same tourist outings, and eat the “tourist version” of the local food. Experience the World a little!

That looked like poo on the sheet. They turned the sheet, thinking you wouldn’t see it. Never washed them. 🤢🤮 I feel your pain. I’m in a ‘resort’ as I’m watching this. The amenities are very nice and everything is spotless clean, even after a recent tornado and hurricane. There are 2 types of rooms. Those in the high rises on the beach and the ones in the remodeled motel units. You have to climb 10 stairs to a landing, then climb 9 more. The steps are tall. Brought a lot of stuff since I’ll be here a week. I’m miserable from the stairs after 30 hours of being here. I’m disabled. My knees are bad and my ankles and feet are so swollen, I can barely walk. My sacroiliac joint is on fire to the point of making me feel ill. Others were also struggling and complaining. Long walks to find an ice machine that works and generally long walks to everything since I’m right behind the main office. Just got here and I just want to go home 🤕🥴😢

Not a way to end this trip. The last experience is the most lasting in our memory, so really bad timing in their part for sure. Now all the travel agents in your group know who NOT to refer their clients in that city. Have a safe trip back and be safe.❤

Definitely something wrong here, I’ve been to Malaysia and stayed in several locations and 5 star hotels there are superb, very like the pictures you showed of the actual hotel you should have stayed in. That’s a typical hotel at the more budget end, especially in Malaysia.

There really is nothing wrong with that room, but you are correct it isn't a 5 star room. Also, does this hotel have the same amenities that the original one did? That also comes to play. If the original is on the beach with 3 restaurants and 2 bars and the new one is across the street from the beach with 1 restaurant and bar it isn't the same. I would think if you are doing a trip to entice people who sell your product you make sure everything is as good as or better than promised. They may say it would never happen to your clients, but technically you travel agents are the tour company's clients.

Sure the compatible, they both have 4 walls and a roof! Past that, not so much!!!!!!! As for the towel, thinner towels dry better in tropical environments but even then they don’t have to be scratchy, and there are often a few more! Ending a tour on a down note is not ideal for any holiday.

I've livid if I paid for that beautiful, over the water, all inclusive resort and was stuck with what you got. That's a bucket list item and the cost per night is probably easily $800-$1,000 dollars vs. $100 or $150 for where you're staying. I'd demand a refund on that portion of my trip!

I booked a 3 star place in California. It was in early September and 113 degrees. My room's AC didn't work. No other multiple bed rooms on the ground floor. No elevator and i am disabled. Wound up moving hotels to a more expensive hotel. There should be enforced truth in advertising. Shouldn't be able to call a hotel 3,4 or 5 stars if there is ANYTHING wrong with the property unless its disclosed up front and very temporary. Like 2 or 3 days temporary. Your broken AC, the stinking pond, the dirty furniture, and bedding should be required to be reported to every caller, agent, and potential customer, BY THE HOTEL.

I booked a hotel by the airport. I was switched to one farther away. It was a long drive and the place was creepy. The free breakfast was a small paper bag with a muffin and a granola. We also got the smallest bottle of water I’ve ever seen. The Uber ride was expensive both ways. Never again.

That's a 2 star hotel! A 3 star would be clean. Your hosts dropped the ball when the hotel change occurred. They should have Googled the hotel or sent a staff member to vet the new hotel!

It does? The last time I was in a Motel 6, (Back in '91), it didn't have any extras, at all. Maybe a coffee pot in the tiny reception desk area, but that was it. Only 2 sets of towels in our room, so we had to go to the office to acquire a third set for our daughter. I must say, though, that the motel and our room was actually very clean.

What I would do is spill something on the bed and request that they remake the bed. If it is a comp stay and not paid, suck it up and carry on without getting too wound up and messing up the vibe of the stay. I understand the situation because I am a travel agent so I GET IT. I am just very optimistic and prefer to look at the brightside of the issue. Make it work if you got to stay there anyway, why be sour and mess up the vibe.

If your travel agency had confirmed bookings in the real hotel, and the real hotel cancelled you bookings at last minute, leaving travel agent little time to find any accomodation with enough space for your whole group, it is quite different story than your travel agent not having confirmed booking at the advertised hotel and by the time they got around to it, that hotel was booked and they had to find one at last minute with space. I would not blame the hotel you were in unless you see them advertise themselves a 5 * hotel.

We were on an escorted tour in Canada this summer. Due to the Jasper fires they rerouted us to another area and a different hotel. The hotel was nice, but the area was nothing like Jasper. Sad, but more sad for the people of Jasper. So we did not complain.

I had dirty sheets at a Marriott Residence Inn in Texas. I called the front desk and they said no housekeeping was on duty. And they were booked, no room to move me too, The manager brought me clean sheets and I had to change the sheets myself. Good ole USA.

If a client paid for a 5-star experience and this is what they got instead, not only are they likely not going to use the travel agency that arranged that experience for them again, they're also not likely going to leave a very positive review nor recommend others to use that travel agency.

If I were visiting someone in Kingston Penitentiary, it would be great. Unfortunately you weren’t looking for the bare bone hotel, you were promised luxury. This is a great place for your budget travellers. I would make the best of a bad situation and somehow rally everyone to just move on, at least you have a bed and a roof and a host that is suddenly overwhelmed with disgruntled guests. Stuff happens!

The "5 star" rating doesn’t mean anything really. It just counts the amenities offered, not whether or not it is done well. I have stayed in some 2 star hotels that are very nice, I've looked at some 5 star dumps rated 6/10 on expedia.

Depends on the area you are in, this could be considered high end. You may want to compare with lower grade in same area. We have noticed comparisons in Thailand, were our son has lived for 18 yrs.

I recently stayed at a Courtyard Marriott in Fort Worth, Texas, that was nicer with better towels and bedding. I’d contact the manager of the 5-star hotel and inquire about their inability to honor the booking-assuming it was really booked. I’d have serious concerns about booking a client’s event only to have them send everyone to a hotel that looks more like a Red Roof or LaQuinta.

Traveling is definitely an adventure. The original hotel was beautiful!! This was not comparable. The sheets grossed me out.
