I owned a Meris Hedra because of your first video about this some years ago, and man, I realized this unit is more than a crazy delay, in fact, is a powerful multi effects unit. If you own the Meris pedal switcher or another midi controller you can have infinite options for a live situation

Did not expect a Hedra video! It was a great reminder of how lush the stereo sounds on this thing. In my current setup, the Hedra outputs mono, but I'm constantly trying to figure out ways to route it in stereo on my board. I think the problem is how early it tends to sit in most effects chains, so unless your whole chain is stereo or you've got a switcher that can move it around, these stereo options tend to get forgotten. You've motivated me to take another look at my signal chain though. 😅

There's a thin line between modulation and delay, and most modulation is dependent on a certain delay whether you can control it or not. A guy I used to watch said named Nick who has scrubbed himself from the net since, he'd say pedals were all doing the same thing electronically just in a different way, and if you get a pedal like the Hydra or the strymon deco (his example was the Thermae and the blooper I think) you can see how other effectively get all the effects possible if you know how to use it
@scottsweatshirt97533 ай бұрын
His channel was Just Nick Music! Always wonder what happened to the guy. He delivered the goods in a no frills, no nonsense fashion.
@legatomodi35223 ай бұрын
@@scottsweatshirt9753 correct. It was just nick. He also did a great video about how guitar tone, or someone thinking they have a certain tone, it really don't exist cause so many different variables there's no way to have a consistent tone even playing the same guitar into the same amp over time. I thought it was brilliant but he immediately walked it back after what I assume was some sort of backlash or at least, a great number of people disagreed hard and he changed his perspective on it. His demos were very very insightful and always displayed what made each pedal it's own thing and he'd just by playing the same riff over and over and doing the controls you did really get a feel for how every pedal behaved in action. It wasn't the funnest vids to watch but they were the bar none most informative vids on pedals. He didn't sell you pedals, he simply showed everything they could do

Honored to hear that my original demo made you take the plunge on Hedra. I totally understand that Hedra's user experience can be complicated. Far from the easiest pedal in the world. I always approach these machines similar to that of learning a new instrument. It takes time and dedicated practice (although not as much as with learning an actual instrument), and the more you do it, the more your memory and experience turn into muscle memory and you don't have to think about what you're doing anymore, you just do it. But it's also totally okay if you/people in general don't gel with that and just want a more straightforward product that's easier to decode. In my opinion, Meris products are definitely worth the time invested because they just hold so many surreal sounds that are hard to get elsewhere :)

Dont get it mate. The hedra always sounds super great in his videos but its beyond frustrating to set up and use... its also glitchy on the second layer function and to change a pitch you need to move 5 cm close with your eye to actually see what you are switchg to because written so small. I use it for harmonizing only and for octave whammys since everything else was such a pain to set up and I would find myself beyond frustrated. Which knob fiddling normally I like but not like this, not with the second layers gltmitching aro This pedal is an absolute piece of trash, its unusable. Allthough sound quality wise its the best pitch machine... needs anlzher user interface and even if you adda midi switch for freakin 150 bucls u only have 4 ports but then u cant use expression oedal anymore.

@@marcusstrymon693 Too late, I actually got it, but I like it so far :) I do have to dive further into it though, I bought the Hedra, MercuryX, LVX and Chroma Console in the timespan of two weeks or so. I have issues.
@unclemarsguitar3 ай бұрын
I thought the Alt>Tap function was "Half Speed" for the delay time?! That's what the manual says... How'd you get it to do the "shortest possible delay time"? Either way, yeah Hedra is a crazy awesome pedal. Try ripping a solo with octave-up glissando ("pitch glide"), 100% wet -- I had a few people asking me "what the hell was that?!?" after a gig last night lol. It's Hedra baby!
@thepedalzone3 ай бұрын
Yeah, it halves/doubles the delay range (depending on what you have it set to). So make sure it's set to the shortest delay range, because that drastically increases the fidelity of the delay lines, and makes it easier to nail a short delay tempo via the tap tempo switch that suits the range for chorus.

Had it for a year now, its an absoulte pain for workflow... not even the fact that its incredibly gard to dial in but with the second layer and especially the hold function being pretty glitched sometimes. And then with an expression pedal, god its beyond frustrating. It just wasnt necessary to clamp this crazy pedal into a small formfatctor....
@joebowbeer3 ай бұрын
Thanks. Can the Meris LVX cover the presets in this demo?
@thepedalzone2 ай бұрын
LVX can do a lot of the stuff that Hedra can do. The main difference is that Hedra gives you access to 3 harmonized intervals + your dry sound whereas LVX "only" gives you access to 2 harmonized intervals + your dry sound. Then there's of course some unique Hedra things like the pitch correction/glide and the ability to send MIDI notes to Hedra so you can play it like an instrument. So it all depends on how pitch crazy you are :) If you just need a bit of pitch-shifting and pitch-delay now and then, then LVX will do the job really well. If you want a pitch-shifting/harmonizing monster machine, then Hedra is the way.

I guess my 73 year old brain couldn’t wrap around the Hedra. I had one for several months and futzed with it for hours and could never get any decent sounds from it. I sold it and now hearing your examples makes me want to try it again. But I won’t buy another. Been playing for 61 years and I’m old school. I don’t want to need an engineering degree to figure out a pedal. 😎🎸

@DocTaTech3 ай бұрын
Yeah, they made a really horrible interface. It quickly kills the creative process. Nothing is intuitive. No way to know what delay times you land on ect. This is an example of a pedal in need of a display or something to provide feedback of what you are doing. But I guess they realized that people are pretty lost, since you at least can buy a printed description to put on top of the pedal (for secondary functions). I've used the pedal for a long time and still have a hard time dialing in what I'm looking for. Slowly getting better, but it will probably never really become intuitive. A major design flaw if you ask me.

@thepedalzone3 ай бұрын
The user interface definitely isn't for everyone, so it's totally understandable that you don't gel with it. The learning curve is steep, but to me personally, it's not much different than learning a new instrument (although not as time consuming as learning a new instrument). It requires a bit of practice everyday, and all of a sudden things click and turn into muscle memory, and you don't think about what you're doing anymore. You just do :)
