Just a tad correction: It was built to mark the first permanent rule of Muslim rulers in India. There were many invasions before that, including from Arabs and even Afghan Ghaznis.

Yup. And in fact, the one who lost, Prithviraj Chauhan, was from my paternal city of Ajmer. Though he lost at the end, we as Rajasthanis and many North Indians honor his bravery and resistance.
