If your child comes to you and requests access to contraception, you may not be pleased with your child's choices but you should be proud you raised a brave, responsible + honest child. I'd rather have my son or daughter confide in me even with difficult & awkward issues than one who kept secrets.

@@edmoregundani3058 Age of consent in most of the world is 16. How parenting ACTUALLY works is that you attempt to instill virtues & morals into your children but in the end the decision of what they do with their bodies is both their choice and their responsibility. "Abstinence-only" works really well until it doesn't.

The one about not forcing your kids to finish dinner is solid. You should obviously demand your children to eat enough especially when it comes to healthy, nutritionally dense foods but you can 100% create a lifelong struggle with some type of eating disorder if you force them to gorge themselves constantly.

Children who are smart enough to talk to their parents about safe sex and contraceptives before they practice sex are probably the least likely people to "slip through the cracks" or whatever you're trying to imply, this is such a goofy take. Having basic respect for your child, and not reading their fucking *diary* of all things, is not a bad thing, invading their privacy will just breed resentment and distrust, and it will teach them to hide things from you and lie to you better. Also, kids these days are definitely not writing their most incriminating secrets on paper anymore, if you care so much then pay attention to what your kids are doing and monitor their internet activity instead of letting technology raise them and then blaming the phone for your failure as a parent. Also, on the point about phones, they're unfortunately a basic requirement for participating in society, if it's not being used to contact friends or watch braindead youtube shorts or go on social media, it's being used for correspondence with teachers and for apps that supplement or add on to newer computerized educational systems. Having a pc or phone is also vital for starting a job, most if not all businesses nowadays exclusively hire online, and require you to have a way to contact or be contacted by your employer at all times. Also, when I was a kid you either finished your meal or you went to bed hungry, so not forcing your child to finish their dinner seems like a perfect learning experience to me. This lady is just describing having a healthy relationship with your child while teaching them to be responsible and make the right decisions, you're worried about the wrong people slipping through the cracks, you should be worried about coddled and ignorant children who have no experience with real life and lessons from their parents being immersed in a society they can't understand or function in as soon as they get out of school.

I dont know if these are 'correct' choices but I respect her opinion and I dont think there is some obvious right answer for any of these things. I've seen examples of people who developed eating disorder from being forced to eat food they hated growing up. The screen time one is not obvious to me either, theres no guidelines for how to raise kids in an age of new technologies. Maybe growing up with a permanent interface to the internet is a good way to prepare children in this new digital era.

There is literally nothing wrong with anything she said. There's nothing wrong with respecting your childs boundaries and not reading their fucking diary when theyre not committing crimes, this just breeds distrust and resentment towards you, respect is a two way street and you need to offer it to earn it. Practicing safe sex is good and having to sneak around and hide those activities is how you end up with unwanted children and deadbeat parents. Unfortunately, phones are absolutely a vital tool in today's society and are basically the only way people are able to keep in contact, especially when they got multi-district schools in urban areas that cover wide areas of land, or when they need to call their parents during an emergency, or when they need to contact their employers when they begin working, because most if not all jobs nowadays require a computer or phone and constant ability to receive correspondence from your employers. I said it already but I'll say it again, you need to respect your kids to earn their respect, you need to treat them like people with agency and the ability to make their own decisions, and you need to guide them down the right path to making the correct decisions, your job isn't to hold your child hostage, cut them off from the world, or restrict things that make a very dangerous, but common, teen activity much safer, your job is to teach them how the real world works and how to safely navigate it. The problem with this argument is that the same people will blame kids, or "this generation," or whatever for not having experience with reality or basic sense, but then they want to coddle and hide away their children until they're 18 and "old enough to make their own decisions," so they're legal to kick out when they start believing things you don't like. Also, where are the last two, did they not fit the narrative being conveyed in this clip of a childless virgin podcaster, with no life experience except surfing on daddy's money, staring blankly at a normal person discussing healthy parenting for 1 minute?

Wow, I guess I don’t see the issue with any of these things except the screen time. I am GEN Xer. We raised ourselves. We were outside with the neighborhood kids from morning until the street lights came on at night. We only came home for dinner. My parents didn’t go into my room or invade my privacy. They didn’t make me eat things I didn’t want to eat and we didn’t stay inside watching tv etc. I didn’t end up pregnant, fat, or unhealthy. I went to college. Bought my own home as a single woman. Eventually got married. Have a full time job as well as run my own business. I think I turned out just fine without my parent’s interference. They let me find my way in life and helped me if and when I needed it. Helicopter parents are why these kids today can’t function without someone holding their hands. They all have ADHD, anxiety and every other thing wrong with them. Our future is doomed.

I can't agree with contraception because you are telling your daughter it is ok to go and have sex, and that isn't ok. I went through this with my daughter, and it wasn't her asking; it was a family member, and she reasoned that I had Shiana at 17. Shiana was only 13. I may have had her at 17, but my daughter has her Master's degree, is married, and has three kids. She did it the right way. Instead of putting her on the pill, I made sure that she understood what it meant to get pregnant as a teenager.

The reality of today is these kids have been raised by helicopter parents who have coddled their kids and given them everything and now they can’t function in the real world. They have not allowed them to be independent in anyway. This is a problem. They all have mental health issues and don’t know the meaning of hard work. They get on KZbin and complain about a 40 hour work week and how no one respects their feelings. They are weak, pathetic excuses’ for human beings. It’s because parents were too involved in their lives and making decisions for them instead of letting them grow up making their own choices with some guidance. The future of this world is very concerning to say the least.

Forcing your kids to eat more food than necessary for them normalizes overeating, not something that should be encouraged. More vegetables does not equate to being more healthy. If you, as a parent, make significantly more than your teenage child, which you should, you should get them a phone, its very necessary these days socially and for safety. A lot of people start being sexually active at 16-18, no one should be leaving their parents home at that age.

Not asking questions is a great way to not find out that your 12 year old is dating a 45 year old child molester. Children do not have the ability to tell what's good for them and what's bad for them. Most of those are wrong. From start 1. Reading kids diary is kinda wrong from moral point of view. But kids have often problems that they dont wanna say to their parents. Thats how they fell into bad company or even drugs. Dont tell your kid that you read it but try to fix problem that your kid described. 2. Learn your kids respect for food. Food cost money and money dont grow onn trees. When I was little, I was very picky. Until my parents decided to teach me a lesson and only give me bread and water to eat for a week. And I am grateful to them because now there are few things I wouldn't eat. 3. I'm guesing third is about FVCKING. Absolutely fck not. Is she stupid? Or taking pills mean something else? 4. Restricting screen time dont have any sense but we should check what our kids watch, do, or with whom they chat. Its is necessary for a parent.
