Unlike the greek word "micro", "mini", which comes from an Iberian powdery mineral, has never had a unit designation, and is only colloquially used to mean "small". You can't compare it to prefixes defined by the SI. I suspect you're confusing "mini" for "milli-", which (ironically) is used to mean _a thousandth,_ a unit larger than "micro-", which denotes _a millionth._ In any case, "nano-" is the next smaller unit by the SI scale. "Mini" is a relative measure.

I would say the keys and especially the sequencer are what make the MicroFreak a fun jamming machine, so removing them is weird, but on the other hand it was very cool to see you can do it. Thanks.

I´d use it with my 88-key midi-Keyboard and a Oxi One poly-aftertouch adds more expression and more range due to having way more octaves and adding a dedicated Hardware-sequencer is much more powerfull A Setup like that, makes this Synth go way beyond it´s inital capabillities, it goes from "fun jaming machine" to "omg WOW..what an inspiring instrument"

Really cool, thanks for making the video and sharing that with us, I'd no idea it existed. Top tip for screws: Put the screw in the screw hole, and turn it counter-clockwise for half a turn or so first, until it clicks into the thread. Then tighten it. That way, you drastically reduce the chance of stripping the thread as you tighten it, as it is more likely to sit properly in the existing thread.

I love the keyboard personally, I don't use the MF all the time but its whole package is what I like about it. I clicked this out of morbid curiosity as I thought you were going to hack it apart. performing with the freak keypad is very difficult for me in a multi-keyboard setup. you cant feel the keyboard because the slightest miss is a wrong note. so unless i focus perfectly just on that or just use it for effects and glissandos etc, it is too dangerous. regular keyboards, esp piano action have a lot of forgiveness before they make noise. also, of you are curious as to how amazing the freak sounds played from an 88key controller check out this demo vid i made straight from factory patches. i love my freak. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5_ak4Nul72rg9U

@@autisticeinstein9702 one of my favorite things about the freak is that you can lock in the scale so that there are no wrong notes, and then you can just go nuts with it. It only works internally though so if you send notes to it from a controller it wont conform to the scale

While Arturia has been extremely good to me and helpful with both my new and used gear from them, they're not probably not going to eat the cost of repairing your Microfreak if you damage it while doing this. @@vjfxtheory Not really, sequencers are a staple tool for performing live. Literally all artists make use of them during live performance. You program parts of the arrangement and play leads etc over them live. Sequencers are used because most people only have two hands, lol. Furthermore if you want to create polyrhythms they are like the best way to do that. Berlin School is totally based on sequencers. Heck, every DAW is a sequencer. However if you are not a good keyboardist, sequencers give you the possibility to create music, so that’s great as well. Great tools, but equally useable by pro’s and beginners.

@@vjfxtheory You say "the sequencer exists for the people who can't play the keyboard..." So you were generalizing. I stipulated there are more reasons to use sequencers and provided some examples. Many artists use pre programmed sequencers. They are a cornerstone of Performance Workstations/Synthesizers like the Fantom or Montage. Pro level equipment. Never did I said a sequencer needs to be programmed live. In fact that is not how they are used most of the time. They are programmed way before artist go on a tour. I think it's rather condescending of you to say "please educate yourself, or wasn't that your intention? I'm not a native English speaker but that seemed a little bit superfluous. As for removing the keyboard, it's his Microfreak. I wouldn't have done it, as I think it looks rather nice. But he thinks it works better for him that way. Who are we to really judge? What real harm is done to the world? It's not dumb imho. It's a choice and he clearly thought about it.
