Of course James and Fuhad had to apologise. Their core audience is black women. On top of that, they aren’t an edgy podcast at all, so their audience isn’t primed for those kinds of jokes. So, an edgy joke about black women can easily alienate a very large portion of their audience.

“Edgy”… i promise you Schultz is not “edgy” … black women have heard these types of jokes a million times before. A white guy stereotyping black women isn’t edgy. This outrage isn't from their fanbase tho; if so, it would've happened when the podcast episode first dropped. As a black woman, I think the jokes were in bad taste, but comedians will push boundaries you either don't like the joke and or comedians and move on. The discussion about the fear of being canceled and the apology dilemma really exposes the precariousness of public figures today. The pressure to apologize for controversial jokes, especially when the outrage is often from people who aren't even the target audience, feels like a trap. It’s almost like a forced admission of guilt when no harm was truly intended. The hosts’ point about misplaced empathy is crucial-sometimes the outrage isn't even on behalf of those who are supposedly offended. Comedy should challenge boundaries, and if loyal fans understand the context, why let critics dictate the narrative?
