As a Bachelor's degree student in my final year , NO ONE should receive an honorary degree. The blood, sweat and tears REAL students put into getting that paper is unimaginable . Howard University did the right thing.

As a bachelors degree student, you should be able to google the difference between honorary degrees and earned degrees. When you enter the workforce, you will be expected to know what you’re talking about before putting it in reports, emails or conducting conversations with superiors. Imagine if you were at work and the topic of honorary degrees came up and you said what you wrote here. In many workplaces, the words affirmative action would immediately pop into many people’s heads. This is not a criticism but a piece of advice. It’s better to google and get accurate information before you speak or type.

Perhaps you should all google the difference between honorary degrees and earned degrees. Honorary degrees are only good for hanging on the wall. That’s it. I am so glad! I graduated from Howard with a music degree and I EARNED a PhD this past May in my 55th birthday. I have worked my butt off as a musician, singer, cartoon and app creator, music educator, music education entrepreneur, public speaker, and mentor to so many young people over the years. I have a friend whom I went to Howard with who has an honorary PhD, and she earned every moment of it and I am happy for her. She has character and has made big waves in the world as I have myself. Universities need to be careful to which celebrities they grant honorary degrees to. I never liked Sean Puffy Combs. He never had a good reputation, and I was so disappointed to hear my alma mater gave him an honorary degree. He started Howard and never finished. He has NEGATIVE ZERO character and here are folks who actually graduated from Howard and we receive no flowers from our Alma mater. I was reading the statement verbiage on the screen as you were explaining, and this is what I understood: the school had a gift agreement with Diddy in 2016, for which payment was made. They are returning that $1M gift. Subsequently, they signed another agreement with him in 2023 (this time a pledge agreement), on which payment had not yet been made. A few things: the money seems to be for 2023 that wasn't paid which doesn't mean he never sent money. 2nd: Jlo is going through it right now and I don't mind her sitting this one out. She didn't have the experience with him and she wasn't with him to witness this behavior. 3rd: Combs attended Howard as a student and dropped out to take a gamble on the career he currently has, so it was probably them helping him to get completed with his original degree. 4th: universities have no integrity these days, with the protests, they literally prevented students who earned their degrees from commemorating that achievement and denied them rights they paid for and earned so I could imagine a school trying to revoke even a traditionally earned degree if they thought the crime was bad enough.
