Love this video- Portugal, Australia, and UK are three of my favorites! I feel like they haven't gotten much love in the community so it makes me happy to hear your appreciation for them. Portugal in particular is my #1 and I loved your analysis! And I think Australia and UK have the potential to do well depending on their staging. Can't wait to see how they all look on the big stage in May!

The weirdest narrative of this year’s Eurovision Twitter season is that Australia is bad - it’s one of the campest, danciest songs Eurovision has had in a while. There’s a reason it did so well in ESCBubble’s Public Reacts - the locals love that sort of thing! 🇦🇺🙌

I think it's the video 😂 it just takes a little thing for people to not like something, like how Iru song lyrics made no sense so people hated it

thank you for calling out the gross reaction to birth of a new age. i can understand the mishearing but i too found the laughing at it so uncomfortable. plus it's one of the most robbed entries of all time imo as a brit i'd say i feel worried but optimistic about dizzy. i like the song a lot and stream it often, but i don't think it's something i'd pick up my phone and vote for. HOWEVER i fully trust that we will get an amazing stage show and i do think we are in for a respectable jury score. fingers crossed it translates to a good result!

Yeah it wasn't cool when Europeans made fun of Jess Mauboy's dancing when it was traditional aboriginal dance, but I get when people aren't aware or educated on the topic they can see something different and strange and make fun of it
@Jakumata8 ай бұрын
Absolutely agreed! It's just flat disrespectful and I absolutely despise seeing this kind of behaviour especially with PoC artists. I really hope Europe will learn, especially as discrimination and exclusions are on the rise. One good guideline I follow by is really "when you don't understand something don't make fun of it, if you really want to know ask/research".

Ok so crazy story about Olly Alexander’s song, I got back from uni a few weeks ago and asked my parents if they had heard the UK Eurovision song they said they really didn’t like it. The reason? They first heard it on Ant and Dec’s Saturday night takeaway which had Ant and Dec clowning about in the background of the song. I showed them the studio version of the song and they really liked it 💀 Moral of the story? Ant and Dec are washed fr 😭

Australia is one of my favourites this year and I'm hoping they qualify. Portugal is an interesting one for me because normally they're not my cup of tea and last year was the first time I quite enjoyed their entry. I like this year, not as much as last year, but I still think it's beautiful and I think it will grow on me. As for the UK, I agree with most of what you've said. Really curious to see what Olly's "gritty", "unexpected" staging will be. Also hoping, like 2022/23 there will be a ESC version.

I love all of these three. Australia is super fun and fresh and I actually really like the verses because I think it builds nicely into the chorus, the early didgeridoo is a bit of a teaser for what’s coming. Portugal is one of my favourite ballads, the staging is excellent and it sounds so magical to me. UK (my country!) is in my top 5, I know it’s not necessarily an esc song but I’ve been a big fan of Olly since his first album and Dizzy is very in keeping with the rest of his music, some elevation with staging would put it in good stead to finish comfortably on the left side of the leaderboard.

29:20 right back at ya (sorry) i never really care about how my country does, but i actually think both germany and the uk have the same problem. i think if we sent entries that are more culturally niche they'd stand a better chance. easier for germany than for the uk, but still, there's plenty of genres and subgenres of music that are just more bri*ish than sending radio pop that could have come out of any country in a half-the-globe radius. I just now realized why I liked Dizzy so much, it literally reminded me of the pet shop boys. So thanks for that aside about Olly's acting background I guess XD So yeah, that was more british than your usual entries and more well-received by at least some fans. Just.. .not enough to pick up the phone for unfortunately. I had to chuckle at the phrasing about hoping for an "unsettling" performance live... I'm sure there were plenty of people unsettled by the gay soft core porn. Not that we didn't have plenty of soft core hetero porn, but that is just "normal" I guess.

I don't dislike the Australian entry but I don't think that it delivers what is needed for Eurovision. I also think that is one of this year's weakest songs. As someone who listens to almost any genre of music, I am really struggling to engage with Portugal's entry. I have listened to it multiple times, but I do not know how to connect with it. If and when it clicks with me, I am sure I will feel differently about it, but at the moment, it is not doing it for me. She is a good singer, though. The UK entry this year is good enough to finish middle of the pack, but there are so many much stronger entries. Sadly, it feels too safe and formulaic and I'm not sure why there are Christmas type bells in it. But still a good song and I am sure Olly will do a good job on the big stage.

i don't really see it with australia, unfortunately... i'm not denying that there may be aboriginal influences in the song, but as someone who's not familiar with them, i didn't catch them at all. to me it just sounded like an extremely basic pop song with nothing special about it, other than 2-3 words in a non-english language in the chorus. and i think most people will miss those cultural influences you were talking about as well
