You probably wont see this, but it is worth a try. I seriously suggest that you apply at the Post Office. All your military time can be bought back and if you become a carrier , you’ll stay in shape. The pay is not bad and the benefits are decent. You’ll blend in and you really don’t need to be a rocket scientist to do most of the jobs. Just my two cents to a you , if you get this. The Post Office even has a VMF (vechile maintenance facility) where you can turn wrenches if you choose.

@@JustinDowDIYcentralhighway depends on the job (what the post office calls a “craft”). For the maintenance craft (where you’d be anything from a custodian to an electrician to a mechanic working on vehicles or machines) there is testing. If you were to become a mailman you only have what amounts to a personality test. Those exams can be prepared for pretty easily. The main thing about applying to the post office is it is a really slow process. You have to be very patient and usually have another job while waiting. But I second applying because of the ability to buyback military time. Also if you work at the post office you’ll be able to have a second pension (albeit smaller than your military one). But many veterans who also retire from the post office have very solid retirement income.

Justin, forget about what you “like”, get a job at what you are good at. During that time, make a long term plan. If your brother is offering you some type of stability, for now accept that opportunity. Get whatever your brother is offering you in writing, so you don’t end up destroying the relationship with your brother or family. If you were a friend of mine, I’d kick your butt, & tell you exactly what I told you. It’s obvious that you are going through some hard times. Have you put any thoughts into property maintenance? I love turning wrenches but I've been doing apartments maintenance for 12+ years now and it's been good to me. Something new every day, yeah there's the repetitive stuff like sink and toilet clogs to pool testing but it pays well and good benefits, usually really good people with the occasional "questionable" person. But having an automotive background really helps in this field I think, and I'd have no doubt you could rock it!

I left the automotive industry after 10 years and being Honda A+ Master certified and having an associates in automotive applied science/ business management and went into the Dairy industry working on robotic milking and Feed equipment for Delaval along with CWC ( compact water chillers) PWC ( powered water chillers ) and PLC it was the best decision I ever made I love my job and going to work , I didn’t know anything like this really existed until I got the phone call that they where looking for an Automotive technician because of diagnostic skills cross over to diagnostics on the robotic equipment, there is other paths out there for guys wanting to leave the automotive industry just have to think outside the box sometimes the compensation for the work I do now blows the dealership life money out of the water .

If you look at the current crop of LEO’s you absolutely dodged a bullet. It’s easy to say everything happens for a reason but its true. My wife, 3 kids and I moved across the country to Texas in 2019 because I was working there. Bought a house and by 2020 got laid off because of covid. It was a blessing. My wife and I started our own business and its thriving. So again, what appears to be horrible can a lot of times be a blessing.

I used my GI Bill to go to medic school. Did that thing, couldnt find work (08 recession), and worked 7 months in healthcare before jumping over to a factory job. Ive been turning hex keys there for 14 years now. It happens and the road to success isnt a straight one. Hang in there. Also, im not sure how the deptmarts are around your area are, but many have a reserve force thats essentisllu part time, overflow work. I worked as a part time medic at two different departments for 6 years before i called it quits altogether. So you can still build back that credit score and pursue something outside of wrenching.

Fact's! My bartender started at like 20grand a year now she's making more than the cooks in the back plus cash tips. I'd say 6 figures at the end of the year I've seen her w2 lol. I'm making 25hr as a cook and had no previous experience except for a couple of fast food jobs. I didn't start at 25 tho I started at 9 an hour and worked up to it and busted my azz and learned new skills. Where I live is way different than Cali tho lol

I worked for about 7 years in corrections. Ended up there because no LE in my area was hiring at the time. Did about a year and a half in a state prison and then the rest of the time as a probation officer. But I'll tell you two things. 1. The standards to get in/hired were definitely a bit easier. 2. I LOVED being a probation officer. Got to do about 80% of the things that made me want to be a cop, but you have bankers hours with weekends and holidays off! Haha. And they don't call you when there's a hurricane! So you may want to consider corrections, particularly for your state DOC.

I wasn’t exactly in your position but I was laid off for almost a year in 2009/2010 time frame so I know what that can be like. Today most CDL holders drive short distances and there isn’t as much long haul being done. Most are day trips. Also there are other types of jobs where CDL are required where you would just move things around a yard and it’s basically a 8 to 4 job. And don’t forget about school buses , elder care mini buses, and other transportation like that. So it might be a backup to your other plans. Dealership mechanic services would be good for you. And I hope that pans out for you.

I think you should go ahead and do mobile repair or some type of repair as you being the owner and operator because I feel that with your talent you're never going to be happy, working for anyone else or be satisfied working for any type of dealership. I’d recommend looking at an industrial tech at a distribution center. I know Walmart DCs pay in the mid to high 30s depending on what level you come in at. Auto skills would translate well

Justin is WAY too honest for that job. Diesel mechanic may be the way to go. They literally give you all the tools to work on your stuff, especially since you sold your tools to provide for your family. Apply for diesel and keep doing your wrenching as an automotive technician or lube/tire tech. Keep your head up. It's not over until you stop breathing. Diesel, diesel, diesel!!! Flat rate is for those who don't mind having unstable paychecks and don't have a ton of responsibilities or they have a ton of savings for the slow times.

They even offer night school training for some trade schools looking for skilled workers transitioning to teachers part time as well if that suits better. Most schools are a state job. You work 10 years and get a pension when you retire. Good luck bro

I’ve been watching you for quite a few years and here is my constructive criticism from the outside looking in. It looks like the reason you’ve had to start over so many times is because you have not been actually stable and consistent at anything for all the years I’ve watched your channel. I can’t even remember how many times you’ve moved, the relationships haven’t been stable and the one that it appears have caused you the most issues is ma. You’ve bounced around from job to job and changed places so much I think potential employers are very reluctant to hire you because they can see your history of not sticking around ANYWHERE for very long. With all that being said I think your a good dude and it would greatly benefit you to get somewhere and friggin stick it out stay somewhere and by doing that and being stable it will snowball into the other aspects of life and stuff will not be so hectic and chaotic. We all see you suffering and it’s heartbreaking cuz you’re a good dude and we want to see you be happy and you haven’t been happy in quite a long time. Mobile Mechanic is what some people do in my rural area. They have a dedicated beat-up vehicle with their hand tools and jacks stored in them. I'm sure their specialty and power tools stored in garage every night. They advertise in the community and nearby small towns on basic flyers at the hospital, apartment complexes, community centers, high school, grocery store, gas stations and probably FB too. I don't have FB so I wouldn't know. But they do get most business from the school and hospitals. They built a reputation, work ethic, and in return get recommendations. Nearest body shop and dealership is 1 1/2 hours away. Out here, transportation is a desired item. Some do have regular jobs too. Most have no job and do straight cash.

Your whole goal should have been to open up shop of your own from the get go. Word of advice for any future techs, if you do not absolutely eat, sleep, breath cars please don't start wrenching. I've seen so many bitter guys in the field that have no place being there. They will never become the technician that the industry needs and master the art of automotive repair. Expect to make less money than a mcdonalds worker for atleast 10 years. Spend close to 200k in tools and always be broke. Can't have any kids or a mortgage over $1500/mo. You still love cars?? Lol good luck. You will sacrifice everything just to be in a dark damp cold shop making $50/hr at 30 hrs a week while your physically there for 50. My point is if cars aren't more important to you than everything/everyone and you don't spend every waking hour memorizing snap on and matco tool part numbers cause your also a tool addict then stay away. You will hate your life. Lol only upside is once you open your own shop your a millionaire.

I think in the last one the new owner of Ron's made a lot of changes and you didn't like working there anymore is that correct? It's too bad if that is the case as I always thought that place as you said was kind of like home which is hard to find these days.
