I was deeply moved by this production of "Dido and Aeneas"...the music is in my body as I performed as one of the witches in Mark Morris' danced opera...very different but I am older and away from that world now...tonight was a cathartic moment in my development as an older dance artist.

@kingseanthefirst Nope. The woman who played the Diva was actually a model that was the girlfriend of somebody who worked on the movie. They voiced her over with an actual vocalist who wasn't this person either. Sounds a lot like her though. I loved that movie so much.

dido was 'shot' with cupids 'arrow' so she would fall in love with aeneas, she couldnt help it. it was the plan of Venus, aeneas' and cupid's mother, and Juno (queen of the gods) as they feared for aeneas. the only problem was that they didnt tell Jupiter, and he got angry and sent aeneas after his destiny leaving dido alone.

Sasha Waltz told she didn't have the opportunity to take care of the video editing, so it's a mess to them too. Sad. The piece should be seen live, they play it here and there still.

The orchestra plays beautifully, Dido is pretty good, but Belinda's English is strange. Didn't know this work was supposed to be a Ballet. I'm confused about the dramaturgical intention. I can see that Dido has a dancer double and that both of them are expressing something hysterically (psychologically speaking) but there seems a divorce between the music and the choreography. The latter is cleverly rehearsed to resemble improvisation. Why is the chorus barking rather than singing?

Then they are being "modern." What is POST modern about the performance? There is no irony, no quotes from earlier dances, no self-reflexive qualities....It's just modern dance.
