It's literally on film, it makes no sense to upscale it (as it doesn't have a "resolution"). But this was likely done from the 360p upload. And also, it's on the public domain. So there's no reason to rEmAsTeR (aka, apply an upscale and interpolate) it to evade copyright

@iand25510 ай бұрын
@@Giuliana-w1f except upscaling it *doesn't* evade copyright? It should be basic knowledge that it doesn't matter if it's in 144p or 8k ultra super clear high definition, copyright is copyright. Upscaling it does nothing copyright wise. That's why this only happened after Steamboat Willie went public domain, because if it was before it went public domain, it would have been illegal. also as for the whole thing with it being made on film thing. How are we supposed to get a higher quality if the original film reels are still in possession of Disney. The cartoon itself going public domain doesn't mean that we all have access to the original film, this means that in order to get a 4k version like this we *had* to use the 360p version because that's the version we have.
@Giuliana-w1f10 ай бұрын
@@iand255 yeah, but it's harder to detect automatically (since it's altering the original media with new pixels everywhere), and same goes for interpolating (not done here, but half of the frames don't match). That's why "remaster" videos of copyrighted animations don't get easily taken down. And this is film. It has grain, not resolution (so it's pointless to upscale it). A real remaster would be digitalizing it again

You need to watch this from the perspective that nobody had ever really attempted synchronized sound before. Sure, there were a few attempts to stick background music in films, and add some rudimentary comedic sound effects to cartoons - but to have witnessed a cartoon playing the drums, making piglets squeal, cats screech, goats sing, mice whistle, pipes toot and parrots laugh all with perfect audiovisual synchronisation, this must have been absolutely mindblowing for an audience in 1928. Walt Disney really watched everyone else failing to recognise the potential of sound-effects and said "hold my beer."

This is how Mickey Mouse started
@ashhplayz948910 ай бұрын
maybe the mickey mouse character is as dangerous and angry as they say, bro used animals as instruments, even disrupting the feeding of the piglets and whipped around a cat for... idk and then threw a HUGE potato to the onboard bird for laughing at him, possibly drowning it into the ocean and then laughing it off. this guy is a menace to everything around him. (including copyright strikes)

It's all well and good for modern Mickey to be a preschool figure but this short shows he originated as a mentalist who beats up other animals for a laugh... Considering classic Donald got constantly terrorised by Chip and Dale, I'm surprised Donald is friends with the also abusive Mickey lol

i'm not 90 years old, i have only 27 years but i actually watched this when i was a little boy, i think i had like 3 years when i first saw this, my grandfather worked with electronics and somehow had a playable copy of this as well as the equipment to play it (i don't remenber what he used to play it i was too young but i remenber it being weird) it was probably something from his childhood idk. anyway this is extremely nostalgic to me even though it's not really a part of my generation. but one thing i have to say, i'm not sure i'll be showing this to my son since the way mickey treats the animals in this hasn't really aged that well. i'm brazilian btw. come to brazil lol

And yet, the current kids are far more brutal to animals for no reason than the kids back then... You seem to misunderstand a major thing. How a child grows up depends more on the parents and their peers than it does on any fictional media. No kid that was raised properly would watch this and think that it'd be cool to turn an animal into an instrument.
@AndroChimera10 ай бұрын
@@kikixchannel i raise my child as i want. and don't think this type of thing is something cool for him to watch in a cartoon. cartoons should show him things like happines, respect, friendship and etc and not animal abuse. if you think that's ok than that's your fucking problem don't try to tell me how i should raise my child.
@kikixchannel10 ай бұрын
@@AndroChimera I'm not telling you how to raise your child. I am trying to give you information you could use while raising your choice. Though going by your response...you'd rather be ignorant and you are happy to repeat obvious problems that are seen everywhere around with the kids nowadays. Suit yourself.

7:09 Now it all makes sense why in the Screamboat poster Steamboat Willie is holding a knife, it's because he used that to peel potatoes and what the old man said "after 95 years he's actually out in the public" propably meant Willie being finally free from that room or from the boat itself.
