Es una segunda parte de uno de los primeros animes de Gainax; Gunbuster. Lo hicieron para conmemorar el 20 aniversario de Gainax, por lo que aunque sea segunda parte, poco tiene que ver con su predecesor, tiene mucha influencia de FLCL y Evangelion entre otros.
