As someone who has been through this... This song is perfectly accurate. Anyone who can relate gets it. Sometimes love triangles happen and it's no one's fault perse. It's just life. And as much as you want to stop loving someone, sometimes you can't. Anyone who want's to debate this with me hasn't lived through it. Life does go on. But that doesn't always mean those involved are happy or satisfied with it.

There's a right way and a wrong way to go about resolving a situation like this, though. I can see you catching feelings for somebody, but if you (or they) are in a committed relationship with somebody else, your own feelings shouldn't come before the due respect to the other partner to the relationship. The song is pretty and dramatic, though. From the perspective of dramatic narrative it is compelling, so long as no matter how genuine the feelings the unfaithful have with one another, they destroy what chance they may have ever had to build something together because they went about starting it the wrong way and did things which made them lose respect for themselves.

Seen Dierks live and I love this song. I was married for 10 yrs..together for 13. I think this song has a lot more to do with people feeling lonely inside committed relationships but for some reason aren't having their emotional, mental or physical needs met or perhaps are dealing with some type of distance or mistrust on both sides, or some form of mistreatment from the partner they're committed to. This leads to searching for someone to fill the void, thus the cheating. In some ways, the partner loves the one they're with and can't leave them, but is lonely and meets someone as lonely as them. It is sad and heartbreaking this happens, but it does. This song nails the dynamic. I dealt with some levels of not knowing what was always happening, being that my husband was Army and was gone a lot for long periods or working constantly and sometimes around females that understood more of what he was going through over there. We made it through those times and I don't regret for a moment that I stayed with him. Even if I found out he slept with ten other chicks, I love him enough to stay and now he needs me. :) Call it pathetic if you want but that's what is okay for me. No one is perfect anyway and I've always had friends so I'm in a good place.

I will add though, as a licensed CNA, that I encourage people not to cheat and/or educate yourselves on STD's because it is a very real threat and can ruin not only your life, but your partner's, as well. This song hits very close to home for me. I have been in the same position as the guys in this video. Several years ago I dated a girl who told me she was separating from her husband but she never fully committed to me. She had a child with her husband and she was not living with her husband while her and I were dating. She was the first girl I loved and it was painful at the time not to be able to see her whenever I wanted. She eventually broke up with me because her husband found out about us and he threatened to seek sole custody of their child. They worked things out, which is great for their family, and I realized that it was better for me but the psychological effect of that failed relationship lasted for years. I was essentially the guy on the side like in the video. My most recent relationship of over 3 years ended earlier this year. My girlfriend and I had relationship issues like every couple has and it reached a breaking point for her. We had a child in November and a month later I found out that she was talking to another man behind my back. For over two months I drove myself crazy wondering why she felt she had to cheat on me instead of talking it out, especially for our child's sake. She eventually moved out of our apartment and I was able to get joint custody of our child. Now that we have had some time apart she confessed to me that she misses me and we have tried to work things out. The guy who she was cheating with was playing her and their fling ended. However she feels conflicted about coming back to me and although it would take a lot of work and forgiveness on my part and be very awkward to bring her around my family, I still love her and want her back. Unfortunately we may never be able to work our differences out and it eats away at me every day. The song and video does a great job of showing what it is like to be the third wheel. I look forward to seeing what the next part of the video has in store.

+Stephen Askew I went through the same exact thing as the first part of this story. She promised she'd leave him. But he kept using their daughter against her and she kept staying. And I kept staying too because I'd hang on every word she said because I thought she was my soulmate. Then she ended up telling me last September that she was pregnant with another child by him due in May, but she didn't want to be with him..so I stupidly hang on every word. If you are in any kind of relationship it's important to have standards for what you expect out of yourself and others. It's not okay to think that anyone is somehow more important than the importance you have for yourself. Being cheated on is devastating, crushed me in November of 2011. I've been single since. The normality of being unfaithful really really REALLY bothers me these days. It's terrible and frustrates me beyond words. That said, I love this song, and I listen in relation to the "other man" and how he wants all of her but will take whatever she will give him. Again, unhealthy behavior, but something I can relate to, taking the little someone will give you even when you want more from them {in my situation, the man is NOT in a relationship, he just doesn't want a committed relationship}. Just to clarify I do not condone infidelity at all, and I interpret the message differently.
