Excellent "how to" video to resolve your "diesel fuel bug problem". Also, you sure know how to use the BTM technique to manage the rough terrain.

I always learn so much on your channel. Thank you! I know those aren't the most powerful diesels in the world, but I love the sound of them.

A big reason this happens is because sulfur is now being removed from diesel fuel for road use. The sulfur acted as a stabilizer and quaternary.

I stick 5 pounds worth of gasoline in my old audi 100 once a year and this seems to be enough to kill off any algae. Famous last words 😅

Why is the fuel filter in such an awkward to reach position?
@Frank-Thoresen

I thought of that too. But that engine bay is really full. Not much space

Hah, yeah, it really could have been better. But even so, it's far from the worst filter placement i have seen :)

Very good work. However you would have done better if you could? By blowing a pig through the fuel lines with compressed air. Biocide is supposed to fix the trouble but i am now thinking my fuel system needs to be inspected thoroughly. Ive had some odd problems and had the smell of fish in my tank. I was hoping to hear of any observation about odour. Plenty of fresh fuel and stacks of additive seems to have stemmed the problem aa good bit. Not a complete solution though.
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road Жыл бұрын
Thanks. and yes, i would have done more. but i really didn't feel it was necessary, as it really wasn't too bad on mine. But you are right about the smell. again, mine was not so bad, that the smell was off. that's also why i didn't think to mention it. But over time, the fuel does go bad and it will lose that Diesel Smell. and just smell Stale, or yeah, maybe even "Fishy" So had mine been that bad, i would have done more, like blowing out the lines, and maybe even take off the pump, and clean that. And the additive/Biocide does kill the bacteria. but it does not remove all the lumps of slime that have already emerged.

@@KJOff-Road well there's food for thought. Now I know I have to get deeply engaged fixing my fuel system. Thank you for your knowledge. I hope to put it to good use. I would have preferred not to have a need to . But how bad can that be? Onward ...>>>

Anyway you could send me measurements in the bed where that hole was cut for access on the fuel connection? That is a M- 998 correct
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road Жыл бұрын
mine is a M1038, but thats pretty much the same as the M998. The hole itself is roughtly 15cm (6") wide and 18cm (7") long. And measuring from the back of the bed to center of the hole, is about 179cm (70,5") And measuring from the side edege of the bed, where it goes down the the right rear passenger seat, it's about 23cm (9") Hope that makes sense.

Never heard about "diesel bug" before, and never thought some dumb would make translucent tank. I think that's the only problem.

it can happen in any tank plastic or metal, the benefit of plastic tanks is they dont rust the bottom out because its infected

Light is the enemy of algae. So it helps stunt the progress of any biology. Also the mechanics see at a glance if the fuel system is clean.

Did the Americans design that humvee to be difficult to maintain in the field, nothing seems to be easy to access when you need too. My Haflinger was a doddle to work on compared to that thing.
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road Жыл бұрын
Somtimes you'd really think that. Haha. But i suppose it's all a compromise. They must have prioritised the ground clearance. So Having such a big drivetrain all tucked up over and between the frame rails, dosen't leave much space.

USA military. The vehicles are inspected regularly. This bug takes some time to develop and grow. Then with mechanics on the payroll it is natural they will fix anything that needs attention. Completely. Probably switch out the entire fuel system for new. Back to work for Hummer.

'They designed it to worked on by kids fresh out of high school with basic hand tools'. Not my quote but after watching a bunch of these Humvee videos in preparation of buying one, nothing is looking too daunting.
