This is actually a good idea, my standard vent hole is letting water though as it’s outside. Ideally it would be nice to not have to remember to undo the nipple but this might be what I have to do

Awsome video guys! Makes me want to revisit my diesel heater drama haha. Simple mods never end up being so simple in the end, but always worth it!

Saw your comment on venting the box. But I don’t think you understood what I meant about the intake. The hose beside the exhaust is the fresh air for combustion. Having that intake inside the box to allow it to use warmer air will increase the fuel efficiency. You will still need a slightly better vent to allow some fresh air to get inside the box so the motor doesn’t starve. But it will help. Not sure it’s possible with how the kit is set up now. Anyways, the rest of the set up is really good. I’m looking at doing it with a Milwaukee packout box so it can be locked in place.

Oh oh oh I gotcha. Yeah that makes sense! I have a thought on a new design that I can mount to my platform, and the case would be big enough to where I can mount the heater upright, and then I can leave the intake in the box as well. It would also be nice to have a case big enough to hold the tubing and such when not in use. Stick with that compact setup. I always find it odd to grab the heater and then another case of hoses and exhaust haha

Did that breather cap end up working well and not letting any diesel slosh out during transport?

Marshall, if I knew about this I could have saved a cap from a container of solvent that is about the right size and prolly same threads so you could have a cap with no hole in it and then just put the vent on the tank itself

Yeah I’m still torn. But really it should prob have a vent in the case (that’s not blocked). Even in the beginning of the video I comment on the smell. I appreciate it though!!! 🤙🏼

Was the tank too big to rotate 90 degrees and drill a hole for the cap to stick through near the handle for the case? Youd still have to keep it stood up, but just curious.

Soooooooo funny you should mention that…. My fuel pump died recently on it. I don’t know if it’s because of that, or because it’s on its side, but it has been way less efficient. So I was looking at the same thing flipping it up and running it back vertical to see if it changes anything… a project for another day haha

@@ChambersFamilyOverland lol fair enough. One more question, since you e had it a while, how's the maintenance/ cleaning on these things? With it being diesel, issue with soot build up?

Well that’s what I’m talking about. First year or so I had none. Then when I put it in this on its side… none… but slowly started seeing a little more around the exhaust. Then 1 trip it wouldn’t run, I took it apart and cleaned out the combustion chamber and it ran that night, next night fuel pump was clicking like normal but no fuel was moving through it…. So just need to spend more time to see if it was a dying pump or it being on its side

Hey boss! Love your set up! I was planning to do this myself. Did you happen to find out if the issue was related to the heater on its side? Thanks!
