The sun is shining in the boatyard, but the temperature has dropped - there’s a thin layer of ice on the water in the marina. Inside a large green hanger several boatbuilders struggle to wrestle aluminium diesel tanks into a wooden boat.
Meanwhile, the cockpit footwell is subjected to more vacuum-bagging, to glue up the beautiful teak cladding.

I wasn't very clear about the electrical locker - a lot of people are asking about venting! These HATCHES will be water- and air-tight, but the locker itself is vented with openings in the underside to draw cool air from the bilge and extraction fans in the back that blow it into the engine room. The batteries all have temperature regulation built-in and will limit themselves or even shut down if they get too hot. These are LiFePO4 batteries which do not off-gas and are far more stable than Li-Ion batteries. Location - yes, it's not the perfect place, but the batteries are heavy enough that they should be low and centred. As with every single thing on any boat, it's a compromise, and that's why I'm going to be putting in a lot of effort to make sure the hatches are fully watertight. I'm very pleased with their location in terms of how effectively this space is used and weight distribution.

Thank you for the educational reply. I boat experience was taking the rusty mortar box to the creek and trying to use as a boat. . It sank . But I managed to get it out of the water. On my way home a guy stopped and wanted to know if I wanted to sell the mortar box . I got a ride home but dad would not sell him the mortar box.

Hey Tally Ho fans: While waiting for this video to publish I re-watched episodes #1, #2, and #3. They barely add up to 15 minutes for all three - check 'em out. Leo demonstrates superiority over so many classics: He's like Mister Rogers, Bob Villa, Jaques Cousteau, and Steve Irwin all rolled into one person while riding into the sunset like a mod-rocker. Imagine all the hard decisions he's had to make during this project that would've been non-issues with a big time budget like Discovery would've given him. On top of that if the build show went well, he'd probably get another big time contract to do a series on her first voyage.

The build quality on those diesel tanks is rather staggering, but in line with everything done to Tally Ho from the start. The guy that fabricated those tanks deserves a Medal Of Honor, or something! The gasketed hatch doors to the electrical closet and the cockpit display the same kind of build quality as the diesel tanks and it makes Sampson Boat Co. surely one of the best KZbin channels ever!

I'm a Patreon and I have to say it has been one of my best investments. The pleasure I get out of seeing a boat being built properly is definitely more then the investment principle. When you chose to use bronze knees, I increased my donation because I could see Tally Ho's story would extend another 100 years. One of the things among many, which have impressed me about the Tally Ho project is the amount and quality of the machinery which appears to be available. I am a humble householder, admittedly very different situation. However like most householders there can be a multitude of tasks which need a good selection of hand tools and power tools. The cost of Leo's professional inventory must be eye watering. Particularly for a one off project.

In this day and age, laser scanning an area as a prelude to producing a CAD file of the tank design is relatively easy. However, to actually produce the tank, to the exact dimensions, with all the correct angles, with correctly positioned internal baffles and perfect welds throughout - that is an unbelievable skill. Those tanks are truly a work of art!

Kind of cool how in the end Leo will be a millionaire on paper through donations. Well deserved. He can "loft the lines" with design, woodwork, edit videos, and is a great 'host" of sorts. This is better than anything I have ever watched on tv. History is being made here before our eyes, preserved forever in the digital stratosphere, and then to be physically manifested sailing about the globe. Some people will just see a boat with the other boats....but WE KNOW.

Yes, something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. But this boat has the proven provenance and the complete video record of its rebuild. It could easily be worth a million dollars/pounds. My question to Leo would be “What are you going to do with the rest of your life?” Do you just want to sail? In that case he has the skills now to make videos and narrate them. He could probably do a deal with a TV company to distribute them. Although they may make stupid production demands, like installing a stupid crew member that everyone hates! Alternatively, he could (I think should) progress the Sampson Boat Company to build/restore quality boats. He now has the contacts, and that will last a lifetime. Anyway, his choice. Personally, I think he just wants to sail….

A few times now I thought to myself it would be nice to wait for a few videos to be uploaded so's I could have me a longer time to watch and enjoy. But I cant help myself. I have to watch and see what these guys are up to the moment I see another video. Also, the craftsmanship on those tanks is absolutely beautiful.
