Having worked a ring where he ran (agility club near Buffalo) he had a habit of getting on top of the A-frame or dog walk and just enjoying being tall. There sure are times when a basset hound can get rambunctious and is full of energy, but anybody who has ever taken a basset for a walk has found out that their energy goes from Full-On to Okay-I'm-pooped-so-carry-me-the-rest-of-the-way-home in next to no time. I'm amazed at the stamina that Diesel had in this event! I was half-expecting him to stop about halfway through and just plop down for a nap, like every self-respecting basset hound would have done. When I changed her leg bandages she stood as still as a statue. Collies famously do not ‘live to obey’, they live to work. They will relentlessly outsmart and sass any owner who isn’t up to the task of keeping them in their place and giving them proper mental stimulation. A bored Collie will make your life a living hell. Retriever breeds are typically the kinds of dog that live to please, but even they will lose all respect for an owner that doesn’t train them properly.
@DrZaius31414 жыл бұрын
That's a bit of an oversimplification. The intelligence of a dog decides whether or not they can learn tricks, the obedience decides whether they want to learn tricks. Neither of these traits is strictly positive or negative and they don't necessarily correlate with each other. Also, smart people/animals will (and should) strive to sharpen their minds, learning tricks is part of that.
@cailewis90894 жыл бұрын
Collies absolutely do not 'live to obey', they live to be worked hard. If they do not get enough exercise and stimulation they can get sick or have mental problems.

Bassets are so lovable and that’s why keeping them on course is a feat. They’d rather say hello to everyone. Beautiful job this pup did!

Funniest thing I've seen. A Basset hound agility course.😂😂❤

He walked in one minute, what my lazy Basset walks in a month....

While this was 8 years ago, and Diesel may or may not still be with us, the YT algorithm got this one right. I love seeing this guy put forth what had to be a monumental effort to get through this. 👍👍😅😅

That's the fastest I've ever seen a basset move. He deserves an award for that alone.

The display of athleticism and flexibility displayed by Diesel on that back rub was on another level.

These people that allow dogs "not suited" to these types of competitions are the best people on Earth! As are the people in the audience. They're promoting bonding between owner and pet and excercise for the pets. I commend them!

I love this. So cute. Nothing like a hound having a good time! The teeter totter was interesting... most "lowriders" are afraid of heights.

When I was young we had a Bassett Hound. They are such great dogs.

He is the only dog in the dog agility competition who has done no faults😂

Every time this Diesel video comes up- I watch it. We had two Bassett hounds- one passed this summer and we still have our female with us . His passing was hard for us. I would have loved to see Diesel compete his agility. ❤ Bassett Hounds. (Ps. They don’t stink )
