What’s halarious to me is how the back of his shirt says “elevator fan” and his back is towards the entrance of the elevator, so at 2:40, that lady just witnessed a random guy with a shirt that says elevator fan, with his back towards her, ride the elevator up there, wait a minute, and then go back down.

Anyone else notice at 0:55 the guy says the date in the cement is 1909 and I clearly see 1959? (obviously a repair of some sort) Also, on that quick tour of the top floor at 4:35 the guy talks about the old wood frame and wood floor. I see the floor may be original but the ceiling rafters (floor above or roof?) are certainly modern 2x construction with replacement timber supports (with steel plates bolted) and posts of heavy timber. Best guess is a leaky roof had to be completely rebuilt not all that long ago. There's always history to be seen and a story to be told in the bones of an old building. The old elevator was pretty cool too!

I had an older otis in my building in detroit. It was an Otis with an "Gardner type car" it was belt driven from a motor and winch unit that hung from the third floor of a 5 story building. It had a cable in the elevator that you pulled up to go down and down to go up. when you wanted to stop at the floor you had to grab the cable within a few feet of the floor then hit the button to engage the brakes. it was very cool. I sold the building and the new owner ripped it out.

Speaking of thyssenkrupp isis elevators, I actually recently stumbled across my first one irl at the Hampton Inn Sikes Senter Mall in Wichita Falls, TX (yes, it's spelled "senter", do not know why). Sadly unlike ones I've seen through KZbin this elevator has just the dover buzz and regular dover/thyssenkrupp chimes instead of the unique Thyssenkrupp isis chimes. Would've filmed it but it was busy all the times I rode throughout my stay and my anxiety makes it so that I'm not comfortable filming elevators if other people are riding with me (partially because I'm always embarrassed to explain why I'm filming for fear of being judged, gotta love irrational fears). But maybe if you find yourself touring Wichita falls one day there's a place you can find one of those elevators at. There's also a comfort inn north of the Hampton along I-44 and the Maurine St exit that have older Otis series 1's installed that I've stayed at once before too. Hope this little side info helps if you ever decide to visit the area!

I love the chimes!

the brake drum sounds like its wobbling, could be dry worn thrust bearings, the gearbox doesn't sound too good either, big hum on the brake unit sounds like the brake rectifiers too small. what happend to the va ?
@TheTheo588 жыл бұрын
I watched the video a couple of times, I would agree the machine is in poor shape, it runs very rough the grease might be dried out inside the gearbox. The hum from the brake solenoid coil might be loose or worn magnetic field coil. Causing the excessive induction hum when energized. Some elevator brake solenoids do operate on DC which I'd expect to be common with MG sets and DC hoist motors. Which was the case with traction elevator with an MG set at my old job.
@tonybaines33328 жыл бұрын
ive been a lift engineer most my life and ive never seen a gearbox with grease in it, or an ac brake coil, ive seen ac up to the point of the coil then its rectified, and most dc coils hum due to the force that they pull.

What makes a ISIS different than a TAC32 or TAC20?
@22408aaron9 жыл бұрын
+WheelockElevator ISIS was ThyssenKrupp's prototype MRL. Instead of steel cables, it used Kevlar belts, which apparently wore out over time (people said the belts snapped, but I have yet to confirm if that actually happens) and the typical installation would have the motor mounted in the pit, so if there is a flood, your motor is pretty much ruined. The ISIS was quickly pulled off the market and replaced with the Synergy system.
@elevatorsofamerica9 жыл бұрын
+22408aaron Man, i though a ISIS was a good elevator. I would be a bit spooked out on riding one.
