I was looking for info on the Old Town Mall and stumbled across this. I spent a lot of time there as a kid. Looks almost exactly the same as it did 30 years ago. There used to be a dance / aerobics studio there where the back half of InVision is now. My mom would bring my sister and I to classes. We would hang out in the main part of the mall area while the class was in session. I remember going on a field trip to New River Engraving in third grade or so. Zack was a buddy of mine and his parents owned the shop if I recall. Thanks for the nostalgia trip :)

I can't stop thinking of Brendan while watching this video... But other than that, this facility seems pretty neat! I wonder if they had insurance in the 50s; I would have taken the insurance money and ran, but I suppose Old Town Mall part 2 is a money maker. That electrical box at 2:30 would fail inspection in a second.

Incidentally, I finally found out what happened to Westbrook, after wondering about it since, oh, 9th grade or so: It turns out US Elevator bought them in the late 1970s. (Why 9th grade? One of my doctor's offices then was at the old Blue Ridge Hospital nurses' building, and it had a wonderful old gated Westbrook in it. The building is gone now, though.)
