I've always loved Dieter's work. His Universal System wall cabinets are reminiscent of Poul Cadovius' Royal System from the 50's (which was earlier than Rams' design, if I'm not mistaken). So he too was inspired by work that came before him (which is a good thing obviously).

Just bought a Braun T1000cd (the cd designation meaning diplomatic corps) radio. The most stunning radio in my collection. Now if I could only buy a Gropius designed house...viellicht sogar in der naehe von Stuttgart, where I could park my Mercedes.

the ipod was an innovation in the sense of.. everyone already had the same product.. they just worked hard into adding more stuff to what everyone had so they could compete... with them. although I think the most representative of the actions of inspiration made by apple is the xerox scenario...

A good designer is worthless if you don't have a company with a boss that has the balls to approove the design.

Despite what he says I think his approach can still be considered fashionable. Apple have proved this.
@atticustay19 жыл бұрын
Tony Swaby They have a style but it's not fashionable in that it doesn't conform to a particular fashion fad. It's minimalist enough to stand the test of time. Apple products from 10 or 20 years ago still look good. I think this is what Rams means - that the design doesn't age, in a way.
@TonySwaby9 жыл бұрын
Atticus Tayar I disagree, I think Apple is all about fashion.
@TonySwaby9 жыл бұрын
Atticus Tayar minimalism just like any other fad or trend is recurring as new generations rediscover it.
@atticustay19 жыл бұрын
Tony Swaby fair enough but in that case it's impossible to design something that isn't fashionable.

I am trying to find the best example of the company who has the best design process implemented in it's organization system. Can anybody help ?

Probably a bit late now, but I think a good place to start would be to look at companies like Braun, Vistoe and even Ikea. I believe they did (and perhaps still do) have excellent design processes, based on the designs that came from these companies. It's worth checking out their design processes and philosophies (they tend to integrate Bauhaus design often, for instance).

This is true, but it is not true to say that Dieter Rams invented the iPod.

This guy invented the ipod and most of what Apple has released to great success decades before. Apples owes this man. The world owes this man.
@jpmthemonk12 жыл бұрын
Not the iPod though. They "stole" from xerox and then from other people regarding the subsequent software. But the iPod was an innovation.
