I think I've watched just about every one of your videos and I really appreciate you putting out the information that you do. I have learned a tremendous amount about catfishing and fishing in general from you. I used the Santee Cooper rig with a slide swivel for my weight with a rubber bobber stopper above it. When I'm bank fishing I use this setup you control how high up my bait floats up off of the bottom. It's exactly like slip bobber fishing in reverse.

I can see where this would be a problem. A man could always crimp on a small removable split shot above the sinker slide to prevent the line from sliding out.
@daveward19352 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip! Some 45 years ago, couldn't afford formal sinkers so used nut, bolts and railroad spikes tied to the swivel. You already know how well that worked. Since then have used the Carolina rig for cats exclusively - usually in heavy current in front of dams. Won some, lost some. Am in Texas now, and need to expand a bit, as I do the bank fishing thing still. Can afford a boat, but don't get out often enough to justify the expense and hassle. DFW area and traffic really sucks, whether on the road or the boat ramp. Thanks again for posting.

How do you stop the current from taking all your line out?

I haven’t tried the sinker slides. I’m pretty simple in my rigs compared to most people I’m seeing. Good video, thank you.

I agree with a fixed weight helps with circle hook - hook sets. Fishing from the bank I use a semi running weight or semi fixed bolt rig.
@fishin-impossible29923 жыл бұрын
Good info Dieter you can also slide your float closer to the swivel and weight
@MrPhoenix1800 Жыл бұрын
If you were worried about the fish feeling the weight you could always use a 1oz weight fixed and still use a sinker slide for the bigger weight. I would think tight lineing would fix that but I may be wrong. I bank fish going to try two different rigs the cooper rig fixed and Carolina rig see which one work better in my location

Thanks a ton man. This makes perfect sense and the Santee is my favorite rig.

I'm experimenting with a Kentucky/Santee hybrid rig right now. Main line to barrel swivel. Leader line of desired length to sinker. On the leader I'll slide on another barrel swivel with beads on both sides and attach my hook/float to that.

Also you can use a bobber stop to stop sinker slide
@PlasticRocket27 ай бұрын
I bet a split shot placed in front of the sinker slide would prevent it from letting out too much line. Ive also reversed the rig and placed the hook above the sinker and bobber above the hook, eliminating the swivel altogether. I will be trying this on sandusky bay.
@geraldjohnson6743 жыл бұрын
Uses this rig all year from the bank and exclusively 3 and 4 ounce sinkers and I've never had a float lift my sinker up nor have one pull line out current or no current I've intentionally let line out to bump my bait up and down sight fishing largemouth in shallow water when cats weren't bitting but bass were biting my cutbait this way the term tight lines has never been more applicable than to this specific rig

Well I've been using this set up with a 3 ounce weight with a bead with a swivel and 28 inches of leader. I found out with a weedy bottom it works great. Lake Pflugerville got bad and went too it. Started getting better hookups. I put the fish up in short time
@keithl21103 жыл бұрын
Third option: bobber stop. Fourth option: a bead that you put the line through a few times or tie it on. Fifth option: a rubber band twisted up on the line Sixth option: a drop or 2 of fast drying non toxic super glue on the line. Seventh option: for line through sinners only, a toothpick jammed in the sinker hole and broken off. Most of these will give you're rigged items room to move but you decide how much room.

I use that rig from the bank and never had that happen to me and I use no roll sinkers once I get my line tight are use the bait clicker
@DieterMelhorn3 жыл бұрын
I think its a lot easier to control from the bank since you can keep your line tight. On a boat, you get boat sway and you can get some slack lines...
@mrmoofle2 жыл бұрын
@@DieterMelhorn I've been fishing this rig from my boat (usually while anchored). I was using the sinker slider AND my peg float was too far up my leader. No wonder I haven't been catching (and we have lots of 30-50 lb flathead here on the lower Susquehanna in Southern PA). Made all the necessary changes today, and looking forward to seeing what happens next time. Thanks for this spot-on bit of advice. I think it's going to be a game changer.

.........or you could just put a large split shot on the float side of the swivel? I think that would work, and still let the fish take the bait without very much resistance.
@avidshooter1323 жыл бұрын
Ha! I made the mistake of not sliding my bobber stopper down to the sinker slide to keep bobber on bottom. It was about 1/2 hr before I realized the red thing floating was my santee rig float. I was bank fishing at the time.

Hello, I sure enjoy your videos, I usually use Carolina rig,no roll slip sinker, in 10-20+ depth,2-3 mph current, I’ve never used a float at the hook, Would you use one? Watching a lot of these videos makes me wonder if the current is keeping the bait pushed down on the bottom Thank you,

Great videos! Thanks for always sharing helpful tips. Any input on on what weight sinker to start out with, I understand over time i may need different weights. I just want to get a few ordered from Bone town to get started with. Thanks again!
@keithl21103 жыл бұрын
It depends on how big of a bait, water current and how far you want to cast. The bigger the bait you want to use the more weight you need to keep the bait down. I generally use 3oz but I will use 6-8oz if the current is fast or the bait is the size of your hand or bigger. 👍

people think catfish is a shy fish like other fish species they could careless look they hit trotline jumping an other fish just jerking on the rope.you drifting just jerking on the line if they could feel that little weight sure they could feel the boat just jerking the line while you moving what i am saying
@kurtissmith36903 жыл бұрын
Or, your weight isn’t heavy enough to sink the size of float you are using.

if it is sliding on the line it doesn't matter if there is slack in the line and the float can rise....
