Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau sings Der Wanderer

Fischer-Dieskau is my favourite Schubert Lieder performer too. His voice mayn't be the largest ever, but does it matter? Not to me. He has for me an amazing tone, very secure pitch and his voice is still resonant and beautiful. What really makes his performances for me is his way of communcating to the listener, I like the fact he goes for simplicity rather than overexaggerated hand geatures. Richter of course was brilliant as always, simply exquisite piano playing

If you know your Deutsch , then this man is the most wonderful singer ever to interpret the Lieder repertoire. Every word is painted in its cameo position.

Jonathan Beck Yes that’s lovely too. I wonder if Schubert would have had a favourite? I just feel more drawn to the F Dieskau. (He and I go back a long way.) And, also tenor voices seem at times to push without needing to. My favourite Mozart tenor being F Wunderlich. Yours ?

Thanks for sharing! His song is the highest. Schubert loved the theme of "Wander." This work is the poetry of Friedrich von Schlegel. D. 649 He wrote music also in the poetry of Georg Philipp Schmidt von Lubeck under the same title. D. 493 Wanderers Nachtlied is the poetry of famous J.W.von Goethe. D. 224 I really like D.F.Dieskau

Anyway, Fischer-Dieskau has a beautiful voice and he sings well. Not all of his performances are the best. Particularly in concerts. His Winterreise is wonderful.
