Thank you for talking about the differences between the two you can get at Walmart. I'm eyeing both right now.

They are not bad lanterns especially for the money. I have quite a few of them myself. Some are in my collection and a couple I use. They are built obviously lighter so if your going camping or some outdoor activity with one pack it securely. They are cheap enough that its no great loss if one is damaged badly tho.

You’ve got some great lanterns there. That one’s got a nice glow. 🔥 Happy Fire Friday!

Thank you, I love my lanterns. Sometimes I like to just sit with one burning no tv no radio. I like to read but I have to light a few and the smell bugs my wife so I dont do that much, lol.

@@GuntersGarage That’s a very peaceful way to enjoy them. I light my lanterns outdoors, and light the oil lamps in the house. I use lamp oil, in the indoor lamps, you don’t get the strong smell quite as much. Very calming, with no noise pollution, just the quiet.

Use paraffin oil. That is what I use indoors, no smell, some good heat, and portable from kitchen to living room. Paraffin oil can be found on eBay or Amazon but lately it is getting expensive per quart. K-1 Kero is not sold around here at the pumps anymore, so finding it is rare and around $8 per gallon. It is smellier now, too.

Nice video. I’m up to 11 lanterns and number 12 is on the way. I burned all of them except for 3 of them. I’m sure you have a lot more than I do. I was curious if you burn most of your collection? I noticed you kept a couple aside in new condition. Thanks for sharing.
@GuntersGarage Жыл бұрын
I have around twenty or so lanterns, I also have some oil lamps and a few calcium carbide lamps. I have burned all of my lanterns with the exception of four new ones I had bought. I will light them eventually. I may keep one just to have an unused one. They are like potato chips you cant have just one, lol.

@@GuntersGarage I know the feeling. My wife is wondering why am I buying all these lanterns. I’m running out of excuses, and space. Anyway I keep telling myself this is the last one. 😀

@@jasper60103 lol, "last one" Ive been there! I tried to get different ones. The only doubles I have are the Dietz Monarch but the one is new with the top shade mounted so technically it is different 😁. Then the walmart lanterns, those are my ones that get used by our fire pit, one is in my truck for camping etc. Im planning for my retirement. I'll have plenty of little things to fix up and tinker with.

Are the Dietz ones marked as far as models go? I have one I probably got 25 years ago for Christmas. It doesn't have model markings at all.
@GuntersGarage2 жыл бұрын
Just about every Dietz Ive seen is well marked with raised Letters Dietz and NY or New York. Most have the model on them too in raised letters. Would be around the top of the tank. Dietz comprises about 98% of my collection. Most other mfg lamps are marked as well. Theres another brand V&O I see a lot at hardware stores etc. I think they were a US co. and sold out to China. I think they are still a nice lamp better than the W Mart ones at least. Im not sure the V&O ones have markings or not. Even Dietz are made in China since the 1950's. However they moved their factory over there they didnt just sell the company.

@@GuntersGarage Ok. I'll have to double check when I get home but I'm pretty sure there is no model on it. I wonder if it's a fake?? 😆
@GuntersGarage2 жыл бұрын
@@Jason1Pa is it marked Dietz or nothing at all?
@Jason1Pa2 жыл бұрын
@@GuntersGarage It says Dietz on the top then on the fuel cap as well. I'll double check. I'll even send a picture threw your Facebook page later.

Lighting a nine dollar crimped, wobbly piece of foil full of flammable liquid and setting it on your dining room table during an emergency, power out event seems like a marvelous idea. What could go wrong?
@GuntersGarage8 ай бұрын
They are a little more than a wobbly piece of foil. I have several of the cheap ones and they work fine. Not nearly as durable as brand name. Not nearly any more dangerous than an oil lamp or a candle really.

You have some great lanterns brother! I have a few of the Walmart lanterns...I think there Coghlands, maybe? Wanna get a few Deitz...they are solid for sure!

Thanks, I have 7 of the Wally World ones. No issues at all. I use them for different things. 2 of them are display only, 2 get used when power goes out sometimes, 2 get used outside at the fire pit and 1 is in my truck for camping :)

Thats it, lol. They just crimp the lanterns together. The better ones are soldered at most all the joints. At least the older ones are all soldered.

Just a trivial point of interest for those who care: Feuerhand (pronounced FOYERhahnd) means Hand Fire, or, hand held fire.🤓 ...sorry, just practicing my German...cheers.

nice good information for sure . I bought a wallmart lantern think it would be cool to use tiki torch fuel in it bad mistake for sure
@GuntersGarage2 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea at all. Tiki oil burns just fine. I have two of the walmart lanterns I keep outside for around my fire pit. I also recently made two whiskey bottle lamps that I burn tiki oil in.
