Thank you so much for this comparison. I own a VH2 (1850€ in EU) and wanted to sell it for a BE100 (3800€) without having found one to try. I used my ears on your video and definitely want to keep my Diezel. Both are insane amps, but Friedman products are really overpriced in EU

Ah that would definitely influence my decision as well. When recording the two, they're fairly similar. In the room, the Diezel sounds bigger and more raw, while the Friedman is a bit smoother and more polite. Just depends on which kind of sound you're after. Both great in my opinion and they both sit really well in a mix. Thanks for watching!

Isnt the friedman like variation (beefed up) of the Sir#36 topology? Sounds pretty good. Diezel has it’s own thing going on. Someone in the comments said its lowend is likely to fall apart in a mix. Someone who does not own one and play it with a band I can only assume. I been meaning to get el34s next but the JJ kt77s keep on going. Preamps are already gone, some went microphonic and some just made the amp sound like fuzz. Those were tad tubes, maybe chinese or some cheap russians.

I actually ended up selling them both and picked up a Friedman BE-100 Deluxe. I've been playing Friedman amps now since 2013 and it just feels like home base to me. The Diezel is so killer but I'm just really used to the Friedman. I always wished the original BE100 had a little bit more low end and had a better, less sterile clean channel that could break up. The BE100 Deluxe solved those two issues for me. However, the Diezel also does both of those things, so at that point it just comes down to the voicing & feel. Would love to keep them all, but I'm a one super nice amp at a time kind of guy. Thanks for watching!

@@Rooster7six I've still got them both at the moment. I'm recording two records so I'm using a mix of both. I'm currently leaning towards the Diezel. In the room, it just has a much bigger sound than the Friedman. The BE100 is a bit more polite, softer under the fingers, and sounds polished, but the Diezel just sounds huge. One of my bands is a trio so I think the Diezel will fill out the space at bit more in live performances. I also really like the clean channel on the Diezel. Right now I'm fantasizing on a slightly different pair of amps for my metal and rock demos : Hagen and BCE Deluxe 100 The plan is to get both this year and take my demos to the stage of final product. All the Guitar Center shops where I got to try the Friedman had the same Orange cab though - still killer but I'm gonna have to try and chose the right cabs - If I get a used Rockerverb 100 with the Orange cab I'll be able to try all try brands combination. There I've formulated my 2021 absolute goal.

The Diezel sounds meaner than Hell and it cuts like a razor blade. In the same vein as a Mark series amp, but in its own way. @@diezelvh4133 Just speaking from my own experience. The guitar player in an old band I was in had an Einstein and Herbert both (at different venues with the same closed back 4x12 w/V30's) on stage with a modded JCM800 and the 800 just sat much better in the live mix. It didn't have the low end grind and grunt that the Diezels had nor the clarity in the bottom end but the bass player seemed to occupy that space well enough to the point that the JCM's upper mids punched through the noise on stage in a way that neither Diezel could. I'm not saying they can't get loud enough to be heard but there's a big difference I heard between just being loud decibel-wise and occupying a space in the the overall noise soup on stage that made the 800 easy to hear and it was purely down to just a more prominent upper mid range that didn't have any other competing instruments/amps in that sonic space.

The Diezel was a ballsier, punchier amp than the Friedman and sounded bigger to my ears. @ZachWish

It had a few mods done by Dave Friedman. Volume control for the HBE Channel, Voicing switch to go between the JJ voicing and HBE voicing when the SAT switch is engaged, structure switch added, and a footswitchable loop. Definitely a sweet amp. I actually just picked up a BE100 Deluxe that I'm recording with. Trying to make a video of that one too. Thanks for watching!

@ZachWish

Thanks a bunch! Both FX Loops are great and I don't notice any difference between the two. My full pedalboard (9 pedals) was running in front of and in the loop of both amps when I switched between them.

Both sound great, i'm surprised at how similar they sound actually. But I do feel like the friedman sounds a bit muffled compared to the diezel. Almost as if the Friedman lacks some high end/clarity. Think I might buy the Diezel as my next amp haha.
@ZachWish
@ZachWish 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah! Both awesome amps. I personally like the feel of the Friedman a tiny bit more than the Diezel, but I'd be happy with either. The Diezel is definitely a ballsier amp with more low end punch, but the top end is a little less refined. Live or in a mix though, it's just splitting hairs. Thanks for checking out the video!

@@ZachWish I love your videos man. My favourite amp demos on youtube. Furthermore i'm looking for a new amp that does the more modern metal sound really well. Think of the current live sound & latest albums of Metallica, Gojira, Judas Priest, Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden, Alice In Chains, etc. And I have Diezel, Friedman and Mesa/Boogie high set on the wish list. Not sure what to go for since non of my local musicstores sell those amps so can't try them out either.

Can I ask you, what differences are there, or do you find there is between the BE100 and the BE100 Deluxe? Is it mostly a matter of some extra features on the deluxe? Im thinking of springing for a Friedman so just trying to find out a few things. I think Im most likely going to get a BE50 or Be100 just not sure if I'll get a deluxe. The JJ 100 or 20 is on my radar too. Do you know if the JJ Circuit is very similar to the BE100, just with the extra JBE mod?
@ZachWish
@ZachWish 4 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. I actually made a video that covers some of the difference here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZXJn5h5iLiJo7s I think the biggest features that interested me were: 1) BE-100 Deluxe has the Plexi Channel from the Smallbox as a clean channel. I like a little grit in my clean tones, so I like the versatility of this channel. 2) Thump control on the BE-100 Deluxe for additional low end resonance if need be. 3) Master volume (system volume) on the front of the amp vs on the back on the original BE-100. 4) Response/Frequency switches on the front of the amp let you get real close to other models like the JJ-100 (also a killer amp). I'm not sure of the circuit difference between the BE channel of the BE-100 vs the BE channel of the JJ, but most of Dave's amps share a common DNA/feel/sound whatever you want to call it in my opinion. You won't go wrong with any of them honestly. So it's mainly about what features are interesting to you. Honestly, I don't really use any of the switches on the back of the Deluxe. The main things I wanted were the Plexi channel since I never play super clean, and the Thump knob so I could have lots of low end since my bands are kinda heavy. Hope that's helpful!
@8bigtubes
@8bigtubes 5 жыл бұрын
Has your BE-100 been modded? It looks like there's a mini knob in between the Treble and Master knobs.
@ZachWish
@ZachWish 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Dave Friedman added an independent Volume Knob for the HBE channel, a HBE/JJ switch to have the option to change the voicing when the SAT switch is on for the HBE channel, and updated the amp with the current "structure" switch allowing you to set the BE & HBE channel for Low/Medium/High gain. They're both killer amps.

Zach Wish hope you can show us video like that.. also, you really had cranked master on friedman like 1 o’clock if i See that correctly where on vh2, channel volume around 3 o’clock but master quite low.. I suppose the vh2 is much louder right ? I have read on diezel forum that their master volume pot starts to saturate sound after 1’clock on master volume pot.
@ZachWish
@ZachWish 5 жыл бұрын
@@obestertomas The Friedman has a Return Master Volume control on the back of the amp. This acts as an overall Master Volume if you have loop engaged. I had it at about 50%. They're both 100W amps, so there's no shortage of volume, but the Diezel is a bit less compressed than the Friedman so it feels like it's a bit louder and more in your face.

Thanks! I really dig both of them so it's hard to say. The Diezel has this really big, raw thing going on that feels a little bit punchier/stiffer, while the Friedman has more of a polished, compressed, super greasy, easy under the fingers kind of feel to it. It's tricky describing tone, but it's hard to go wrong with either.

What's up with the doublecut guitar's neck pickup placement?
@ZachWish
@ZachWish 4 жыл бұрын
Quote from the builder about the placement, "Main reason is to keep a solid piece for the neck joint for strength and tone. It seems to get a better tone in this position as well. Too close to the neck always sounds too muddy and loses it’s charm in my opinion."
