Diezel VH4 Playthrough

Its been a hot minute! Apologies for the lack of content, life has got in the way and I've moved house recently, however - I recently took delivery of this flagship amplifier by Diezel.
I'll reserve my thoughts with respect to how I think it performs up against my others I have demo'ed on the channel before. But I would love to know your thoughts.
Signal chain is an Ernie Ball Music Man JP7 Stealth (Dimarzio Crunchlab/Liquifire) in Drop A -- Diezel VH4 -- Mesa Traditional 4x12 Cabinet -- Sennheiser MD421 Microphone.

Presence is WAY too high. Diezel's presence circuit is different from other traditional high gainers. First of all the corner frequency is much lower, meaning that the presence control acts almost like a NFB control. I think the taper is also different, therefore it doesn't have all the usable range after 12 o'clock as other amps tend to have. Keeping it as high as you did here basically takes out the NFB, which, in a high gain amp, can sound very harsh. I tend to keep mine at 12 o'clock or lower to get a tight dense tone

@@dass101 good advice! I hear and read mixed advice re this. I read that these are generally dark amps hence presence and treble need to be given a crank to get them to a ball park, I guess that's half thr fun, experimenting. Trust me when I say I'm new to these and their layout. 😂

@@the-tone-zone Yes, indeed they are dark/mid heavy amps, but that's how they're supposed to sound :) IMO cranking the presence is not adding anything beneficial and takes away from their thick tone

@@dass101 Tone is totally subjective. There is no wrong way to dial in an amp.

I think they used to sound better 10 years ago, or so. Nowadays they are just too compressed and squishy. And they did not fart nearly as much as now.

Many different iterations - this on is an EL34. There is definitely an element of 'fart' as you mentioned. admittedly I have only had this thing for a couple of weeks - still figuring it out, I like it way more than the Herbert though for what its worth.

@@the-tone-zone Yeah, they changed quite a bit through the years. I really wanted to like it, since they are built extremely well and of very high-quality, but that doesn't help in the end. I'm still waiting for the JP-2C to arrive. I had one of the limited Version a few years ago, which i stupidly sold and since then they haven't been available. I almost ordered another Herbert MK3 out of despair 🤣, but i cancelled it.

Simply turn the bass and Deep control below 11-10 o'clock and the master control to 12 o'clock There is no „fart“

Which do you prefer vh4 or herbert?

@@the-tone-zone I had a herbert mk3 and I didn't like it. But, I ordered vh4 without trying. I hope I like vh4. Thanks!

@@bulletrider8893 I found tbe herbert too one-dimensional, it's a cool hi Fi metal amp, but I get a sense of versatility from the VH4, not to mention the 800 crunch from channel 2, seriously DON'T sleep on that channel it's KILLER
