Is an Add On Profile better than an EDS file? What are the benefits of the AOP over the EDS file? Does the EDS file just give you an array of a nominated data type in the controller tags, whereas an AOP gives you named items of different data types in the controller tags?

Hi Don, One is not better than the other, they both have their own features. Module profiles, also known as Add-On Profiles, are required for the programming software to communicate to the device and typically generate a graphical user interface (GUI) which is used to easily configure it. EDS files are required for communication based software to be able to identify the device. This includes RSLinx Classic and RSNetworx for DeviceNet/ControlNet/EtherNet/IP software. Hello Nour, You will need to download and install the AOP for this module to be able to add it into the device tree. The AOP can be found here: compatibility.rockwellautomation.com/pages/search.aspx?crumb=117&q=AOP Click on the second one down, the one that says Add-On Profiles, then click the little gray arrow pointing down on the side and scroll down until he finds the 1794 Flex I/O AOPs. Hello Erik, AOPs are only available when using RSLOGIX 5000 / STUDIO 5000, not with RSLogix 500. If a card is not available to select via your RSLOGIX 500, you will need to check the version you are using, if your software is an older version and the card is not available to select, then you will need to update your software via a Rockwell Automation TechConnect or purchase a new license of RSLOGIX 500 from your local Rockwell Automation distributor. hi mike, i have a question, i try to find the *.eds for the panelview plus 6 1250, but in the page of rockwell say you find the *.eds for the panelview, but when i download the file is *.exe and it's not *.eds, where can i the files? or how i find the file *.eds

Hi Luis, Some EDS files are automatically installed when the .exe is ran. Download and run the .exe file, then complete the configuration. If you have any issues please contact Rockwell Automation or your local Rockwell distributor for support.
