Just a point about these strategies: Liverpool and Man City mainly plays at different tempos too. While Liverpool looks to recover the ball and attack immediately with pace to get the opposition's defense disorganized, Man City mainly looks to control the game moving the ball and the opposition with short and fast passes, building its attacks more patiently (stabling its defensive transition at the process). Because of its strategic differences they play at different widths: narrowing a defense makes more easy to attack at the counter while stretching a defense makes more easy to penetrate low-blocks.

Sarri arguably started losing after King Nouman explained the strength and weakness of Chelsea's game on KZbin and important of Jorghino under Sarri. I think comparing Leicester's 2-3-5 would have been interesting. Man City and Liverpool are both possession-based teams who pretty much always attack with the same front 5. Leicester is now a high possession team as well (58% average possession and 5th most passes) BUT they have different options in attack. Rogers is almost creating a hybrid of the two systems - sometimes the full-backs attack the wide spaces and sometimes the CMs attack the half-space - which can be more unpredictable and fluid. Against 10-man-Southampton they routinely exploited both and had 3+ men in the box for all 7 of their goals from open play. However, it can also lead to a higher loss of possession (1st for total tackles). Whereas Klopp and Pep use their formation and pressing to limit the opposition in transition, Rogers's Leicester relies on the individual tackling ability and recovery runs of their players (1st and 2nd for individual tackles, Ndidi and Pereira). This seems to be working so far though with the joint lowest goals conceded (8) having played 5 of last years top 7 already in their first 10 games.

Whats so good about these teams is their adaptability, all these players (CM/AM, Fullbacks, Wingers and Strikers) are dynamic and are able to switch the roles they do. If TAA is having trouble putting crosses in due to being well marked, movement will occur that will open up space for the player or for another supporting player. These two teams are drilled and trained so well they can adapt seamlessly within games.

Already knew how both teams set up offensively but also how both teams play the same formation but totally different at the same time. The counter to both formations would be to play it long to the wide areas where they would only have two cb’s back on defence and you could easily isolate one of them on the wide areas to create chances for the second runner in behind or to take the defender on and score.

Another aspect missing from this video is how the differences in their attacking approach(creating space/attacking vacant zones) is based on their different counter-pressing approach. Klopp wants his front 3 in central positions immediately after regaining possession in order to finish attacks, whereas Guardiola wants to restructure the circulation phase and requires his midfielders in attacking zones to help retain possession and combine out of the press as soon as they regain possession. Anyone with further knowledge might be able to elaborate on this aspect better than me.

The only level up after both City and Liverpool is if team comes along that can play both high octane, pace, intensity and technical ability as both teams. At the moment I believe PSG is heading there with out Neymar and Mbappé at times, they are playing as team, they have thrashed teams in CL group stage so far. Idrissa Gueye in the Kante role has made them very good at pressing, it will be interesting to see Gueye/Marquinhos/Veratti stepping up fit, Neymar/Mbappe/Cavani/Di Maria/Icardi can come together who ever starts that they play as team against Barce/Liverpool/Juvi/Atleti/City/Bayern....during the knock out stages.

but like if you've seen the game against southampton, chillwell was on fire, he puts in so many crosses and scored a goal too, i think having a strong defensive midifeld in ndidi gives them a defensive wall and with tielmans and maddison, the ability of vardy to get in spaces behind defenders, they really make it hard for opposition to do much, liverpool almost got vardy out of the game and leicester suffered but leicester is playing some great football and they're pretty good at it, rodgers is doing a very very good job, he has been my 3rd best manager this season behind wilder and lampard, now arsenal is ruining that why they didn't got him instead of emery

There's another point there. Liv uses muchier longer air balls than City, that's why its attackers are positioned altogether as it increases the chances of recovering the second ball and then instant counter-attack. 👌 In opposition, Guardiola prefers ground passes because City's players are smaller and more skilled for dribbling and passing. Each coach uses different practical approaches as they are suitable to the available players.
