Thank you so much. I have a question. On this video at 1:55, you said that if some loads acted to out of plane of the membrane, there will be no deformation. But in my opinion, if the membrane doesn't have the out of plane stiffness and the membrane is under the loads toword out of plane, there will be very much deformation like infinite.

I have the same confusion. If something has out of plane bending stiffness, it should not bend but here when we say shell has out of plane stiffness we are saying that it will bend and for membrane that does not have that stiffness, (it should have bended rather infinitely like you said), it won't bend.

during analysis of building slab what we have to consider shell or membrane?
@hardikpandya74218 ай бұрын
Membrane should be considered. Because it will consider the entire slab load is transferred to the beam and beams will be designed accordingly. Membrane doesn't resist much load. But thick larger slabs can be modelled as shell elements and meshed separately. In this case the slab will resist some load and the entire load won't be transferred to the beam.

shell will not carry any load, it will also transfer but in a different pattern, add up the loads you will understand.
@AmulyaRajbhar7 ай бұрын
Right ✅ . Summation of all base reactions must be equal to dead load I.e. equal in both case.. but patterns of transferring load will be different.

I believe your statement on in-plane stiffness and no deformation is incorrect. unless it is rigid, there will be deformation
